How to make potato chips at home. How to make delicious chips at home. The standard way to make homemade chips is as an oven snack.

Many women have long appreciated the durability, excellent decorative properties, durability and other important characteristics of shellac, in which ordinary nail polish is noticeably inferior. But only the correct application of shellac layers to the nails followed by drying the coating in a UV lamp can ensure the incredible “survivability” of a luxurious manicure for several weeks. The technique of applying shellac to nails is so simple that you can easily master it at home using video lessons for beginners and a step-by-step master class with photos of each stage of the procedure.

The tandem of varnish and gel in one bottle successfully replaces traditional nail extensions, since durable layers of shellac protect long, brittle nails from damage. The hard gel varnish coating reliably fixes the given shape of the natural plate and helps prevent its delamination.

The obvious advantages of using shellac include the ability to perform a fashionable “salon” level manicure at home, high polymerization speed (drying of each layer of coating), resistance to external influences (including household chemicals), preservation of the shine and intensity of manicure shades during socks, safe removal of gel polish for natural plates without filing. And during a long vacation, shellac is simply irreplaceable, since a manicure done with it does not require correction and you can safely enjoy your vacation.

♦ COMMON ERRORS

Using low-quality gel polish for manicure or violating the technique of applying shellac to nails can lead to a rapid loss of glossy shine, peeling of the coating, cracks and chips. Be sure to read the typical mistakes that women make during the procedure, and carefully study the video lessons for beginners on how to perform a manicure using gel polish at home.

Improper storage.
Do not leave bottles of shellac in an open place in direct sunlight, which will change the properties of the decorative material. Room lighting also shortens the shelf life of gel polish. Keep all bottles in a dark place and close them immediately after using gel polish;

The tips of the nails are uneven and rough.

When preparing your nail plates for shellac, sand the free edge very carefully with a suitable nail file. If the tips of the nails are not smooth and even, then while sealing the end, lumps will begin to collect on them, which can lead to chipping of the hardened coating;

Treat the cuticle with softening oil before the procedure.

Treat the cuticle with protective and softening agents after completing all stages of the manicure. Oil creates a greasy layer, weakening the adhesion between the nail surface and the base layer;

Polishing nails before the procedure.
Treating the surface of the nail plates with a polishing buffer impairs adhesion. To improve adhesion between the plate and the coating, treat the surface of each nail with a suitable file with a fine abrasive to obtain roughness;

Using an acid primer.
If you use shellac for a manicure, then it is generally not necessary to treat your nails with any primer to improve adhesion. In any case, use only acid-free primer and apply the base coat to your nails immediately, without waiting for the primer to dry completely;

Improper degreasing of nails.
Before applying the base layer, you must very carefully remove moisture and all fat from the nail plates. Treat your fingers with disinfectant foam, thoroughly wipe each nail with a lint-free cloth (you can moisten it with Nail Prep), and then apply a degreaser (fresher or instant-dry dehydrator) to the nails and periungual ridges;

Shaking the bottle of gel polish.

Vigorous shaking of the bottle leads to the appearance of small bubbles, which complicate the procedure of applying shellac to the nails in an even layer. It is enough to slightly rotate the bottle in different directions to evenly distribute the pigment that has settled to the bottom;

Bleeding of the base layer.
If you apply the base in a thick layer, it will begin to spread, getting under the side rollers and onto the cuticle while drying in the lamp. Try to apply the base in a thin layer and very carefully so as not to touch the cuticle and side rollers with the brush;

Thick base coat.
Colored shellac should be applied to the base in a very thin layer. Carefully squeeze the brush on the edge of the bottle before the procedure and move from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. During the polymerization process, a thick layer of gel polish hardens unevenly and waves and swelling may appear in some areas of the coating;

The end of the nail is not sealed in time.
Place the brush over the edge of your nail as you apply the base, top, and first coat of shellac. Make sure that the entire end of the nail is completely sealed. Moisture will enter the coating layers through a poorly sealed nail tip and the shellac will begin to peel off;

Incorrect removal of the dispersion layer.
A sticky dispersion layer remains on the nails after polymerization of each layer of coating in a UV lamp. But the sticky layer perfectly binds all layers of the coating and you only need to remove it from the top layer (and not from each) with a cleaner. By the way, it is best to apply the top coat (finish coat) with a separate brush and then dry this layer thoroughly in a UV lamp (1.5-2 minutes, depending on the lamp power) to achieve a spectacular glossy shine;

Poor polymerization of the coating.
If at least one layer of coating is uneven or not dried enough in the lamp, then the decorative manicure will not adhere well to the nails. Place your fingers in the central part of the device, do not press them together. Try to strictly observe the polymerization time. If the applied layers of coating do not harden sufficiently within the allotted period of time, then it is time to change the ultraviolet bulbs in the device.

♦ CORRECT APPLICATION OF SHELLAC ON NAILS AT HOME

Tools and materials:

· UV lamp (36 Watt; if LED, 18 Watt is enough);

· Set for hygienic manicure (nippers or scissors with narrow cuticle blades, pusher with a rounded blade, manicure files, orange sticks);

· Lint-free wipes;

· Brush for removing dirt;

· Base (to protect the nail from the active components of shellac);

· Colored shellac (base coat);

· Top (finish coating);

· Degreasing agent (dehydrator, fresher);

· Cleanser (to remove the sticky layer from the finish coat);

· Softening cuticle oil.

Step by step application of shellac on nails:

❶ Make a warm bath for your nails and soak your fingers in it for 10 minutes. Wipe your hands dry and do a hygienic manicure (push back the cuticle and remove dead skin with a remover or manicure trimmer, trim the nails and give the free edge of each nail the desired shape);

❷ Sand the surface of the nail plates with a fine abrasive file to remove shine and make the nails more matte. This procedure improves the adhesion of the base coat to the nail surface;

❸ Wipe your nails thoroughly with a lint-free cloth moistened with degreaser. After degreasing, try not to touch the surface of the nail plates with your fingertips;

❹ Now apply a thin layer of base coat to each nail of one hand, squeezing the brush well on the edge of the bottle before applying. The end of the free edge is completely sealed. If the base gets on the skin around the nails, then carefully remove it with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover;

❺ Place your fingers in the UV lamp, being careful not to touch the base coat to the body of the device. The polymerization time of the base layer depends on the lamp power (from 30 to 120 seconds);

❻ After polymerization, try not to touch the hardened coating, as a sticky dispersion layer remains on it (there is no need to remove it). Carefully apply a thin layer of colored gel polish. During the procedure, you can seal the end, but not necessarily;

Fickle teenagers may make chips their only food item. And demanding adults who strive for a healthy lifestyle are not at all averse to crunching on potato slices while sitting comfortably near the TV or snacking on a can of beer. If you yourself are a fan of fragrant potatoes, or are raising children who consume this product in huge quantities, then this article is for you. From it you will learn many interesting details about your favorite food: the history of the invention of the dish, and how to cook chips without leaving home.

Millionaire's Lunch

It's hard to believe, but we owe the appearance of chips to the conflict between a millionaire gourmet and an obstinate cook. On a warm summer day back in 1853, railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt arrived in Saratoga Springs. After making a successful deal, Vanderbilt decided to eat at the Moon Lake House hotel restaurant. The fastidious businessman was dissatisfied with the lunch and sent the dish back to the kitchen three times. Like, they cut the potatoes coarsely. The restaurant's chef, George Croom, was a hot-tempered man. And when the tycoon returned lunch once again, he couldn’t think of anything better than making chips. He finely chopped the potatoes and fried them, pouring plenty of oil over high heat.

The obstinate chef wanted to provoke a conflict between the millionaire, dissatisfied with the kitchen, but he struck him in the very heart, or rather in his taste buds and stomach. Vanderbilt became a regular at Moon Lake House, and the chef decided to make chips the restaurant's signature dish. A few years later it became possible to make chips on an industrial scale. The taste of the potato delicacy has become famous all over the world.

Idols of millions

Today, chips top two top products at once. Firstly, as the most unhealthy food. In terms of harmful effects on the body, they are second only to Coca-Cola, which is so pleasant to wash down with fried potatoes. Secondly, it is the most favorite food in the world. Unfair, but true: everything that is pleasant is either immoral or fattening. Chips are morally neutral, and the spoiled figure does not bother fans of crispy slices. The warnings from nutritionists for potato gourmets are unconvincing; official statistics confirm this. The average Russian eats half a kilogram of chips per year, a Ukrainian eats 2.5 kilograms, and a European eats 5 kg. product, an American swallows 10 kilograms. But the Japanese are ahead of the rest; every resident of the Land of the Rising Sun manages to happily crunch as many as twenty kilograms of chips in a year.

Cooking chips at home

Classic chips recipe.

On supermarket shelves, everyone can find potatoes to suit their taste: from chopped root vegetables and from mashed potatoes, with the taste of all types of meat or all sea creatures, with herbs or cheeses. One thing is really bad: it is impossible to make “factory-made” chips without adding preservatives. But anyone can make “environmentally friendly” chips at home. Remember a few simple rules and you can always delight yourself, your children and your friends with a potato dish.
To prepare the chips you will need:

  1. Even and smooth potatoes without eyes (1 kg);
  2. Refined vegetable oil (1 liter);
  3. Salt;
  4. Ground black pepper (to taste).

It will be most convenient to fry the potatoes in a deep fryer. But beyond the name of special utensils, you can also use what every housewife has in her kitchen. You can use a deep frying pan or a saucepan with a thick bottom. Perfect for making cauldron chips. We will also need: a wire rack or colander, a waffle towel.
Having prepared the utensils, proceed as follows:

  1. Wash the potatoes, peel them well, cut into thin slices and fill with warm water;
  2. Heat the dishes on the stove. Add oil (about half a liter). We are waiting for the moment when it warms up well and the fire is quieter;
  3. Throw the chopped potatoes into the oil in small portions;
  4. As it cooks, take it out and place it on a towel to remove excess fat;
  5. Pepper and salt. Place in a plate;
  6. Add a little oil to our saucepan/cauldron/frying pan and fry the next portion of potatoes.

You now know how to cook chips at home - this delicious and beloved food. Good luck with your cooking and grateful eaters.

Potato chips were invented back in the 50s of the 19th century. This happened almost by accident: George Crum worked as a cook in one of the Saratoga restaurants, and one day he encountered a very picky customer. He returned the fried potato dish three times, claiming that the potato slices were cut too thick.

The cook flew into a rage and, to annoy the picky customer, cut the potatoes so thin that they were visible through. However, this action led to an unexpected result - the client not only liked the dish, but even delighted the client. Chips became one of the restaurant's specialties, and their recipe was kept strictly secret for a long time. Gradually, the recipe became popular, but until the 20s of the 20th century, the dish did not leave the United States. Homemade chips are a snack that will definitely not contain excess fat and preservatives. Over time, the recipe spread to many countries around the world, and with the invention of the machine for peeling potato tubers, it was put on an industrial basis. The popularity of chips has led to the emergence of many flavors - now we know salted and pepper chips, chips with flavors of bacon, sour cream, onion, squid, shrimp, crab, horseradish and mushrooms.

All this variety is achieved with the help of various flavoring additives, and the chips themselves contain less and less potatoes. But this popular snack can be prepared at home! Such a dish will not be harmful at all, since the fat and calorie content will decrease significantly.

With just a couple of potatoes and a little butter at home, you can treat your friends to a delicious beer snack or make your child happy. In addition, you can diversify the recipe with ground paprika, herbs, grated hard cheese, dry basil, garlic and other homemade spices.

Ingredients

Homemade Chips Recipe

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Wash the potatoes, remove the skins. Cut each potato into very thin slices, trying not to exceed a thickness of 2-3 millimeters. You can make slicing easier by using a vegetable slicer or a grater with a knife for slicing vegetables. If desired, you can make a version of fluted chips using a bread knife.

Rinse the slices several times in cold running water, washing off the starch. Place the chips in a single layer on a paper towel and cover with another towel. Leave for a few minutes to absorb excess moisture. If the slices are not dried well, you will not be able to achieve the crunch of the chips. Using cooking spray, spray olive oil onto a large baking sheet.
A grater with a knife for cutting vegetables will greatly simplify the preparation of chips. Place the slices on the surface in one layer. The chips should not touch. Drizzle the slices with oil again. Add some salt. If desired, add garlic powder, ground chili, paprika, black pepper, sprinkle with dry basil, dill or parsley. Bake for 20 minutes. The finished dish should acquire a uniform golden color.

Remove the finished slices with tongs to prevent them from burning. Place chips on paper towels to remove excess oil. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan and chopped herbs. To keep the chips crispy for a long time, air dry them for 20 minutes, spreading them in a single layer on a wire rack lined with a layer of paper towels.

Microwave chips are not only easy to cook, but also quite quick.

The good thing about this recipe is that you only need 3 ingredients:

  • potatoes - 300 g. It is advisable not to use young potatoes, the chips will not be very tasty, they will taste starchy;
  • vegetable oil – 60 g;
  • spices to taste.

Cooking steps:

  1. Cut the skins off the potatoes, wash them well and place in cold boiled water for at least 15 minutes. In this case, excess starch will be removed.
  2. Dry the potatoes with a towel, cut into thin slices. If you have a shredder, it will work great.
  3. Grease the dishes with oil and place the potatoes so that future chips do not touch each other.
  4. Sprinkle with spices.
  5. Place the dish in the microwave at maximum power.

Total cooking time is 4 minutes. After 2 minutes, stop the timer, turn the chips over so that the other side also has a crust.

As soon as the microwave has finished working, you need to remove the dish. Otherwise, the chips will quickly become soggy and turn into tasteless fried potatoes.
