The Czech Republic is a European country that attracts tourists with its magnificent architecture, sights, and gastronomic discoveries! A culinary journey through Czech restaurants and pubs will leave deep impressions that will remain in your memory for a very long time. And... they will make you return to this country of hearty dishes and legendary beer more than once! Today we invite you to go on a gastronomic “tour” around the capital of the Czech Republic - Prague.

In Prague, as elsewhere in the Czech Republic, so-called specialties (national dishes) are of particular interest to tourists: dumplings, Olomud cheese, boar's knee, Czech sausages with sauerkraut, pork knuckle, traditional fried cheese, soup in bread and many other unique dishes flavored with sauces.

In Prague you can always find establishments with low prices that surprise you just as much as the rich menu. Of course, the capital has a good selection of elite and expensive restaurants, but if you move away from the main tourist trails two or three lanes inland, this will allow you to significantly save on lunch or dinner without losing any quality.

Tavern U Pavouka (“At the Spider”)

Popular beer restaurant. Excellent snacks are served here with beer. Many tourists admit that the most vivid impression of visiting the capital of the Czech Republic was dinner at the Prague restaurant “At the Spider”.

The atmosphere of the medieval tavern has been recreated very reliably, it’s hard to believe that the 21st century is just outside the door. It is not surprising, because the building in which the restaurant is located was built in the 15th century. The restaurant is also famous for its large selection of beer and its excellent quality. As for entertainment, the Inn “At the Spider” offers a real medieval performance.

Dancers, fakirs, fencers, comedians, and fortune tellers will put on a bright and unusual show accompanied by medieval melodies. You have never seen anything like this and will never see it anywhere else! The show takes place every day except Monday, from 20.00 to 23.00.

The restaurant's chef, Pavel Shapik, completed foreign internships in Austria, Italy, France, Singapore and Germany. The restaurant features a large collection of wines from all over the world.

The average bill at the establishment is $50-100.

Dishes here are also prepared from homemade products: eggs - from chickens running around the yard; meat - from animals from farms where antibiotics and hormones are not used; cheese - from eco-farms in mountainous regions. One of the main attractions of Prague is Czech national cuisine. To be honest, the Czech Republic does not have its own original dishes as such - “boar’s knee”, also known as “knuckle”, is also popular in Bavaria, goulash, beloved by the Czechs, came from Hungary, sausages, which are sold in Prague on every corner, are a purely Austrian theme . But here they cook it somehow especially tasty. I’ll say right away that during all 3 days in the Czech capital we did not encounter a single frankly tasteless restaurant.

Old Town Square – the most delicious restaurants in Prague are concentrated around it

This article will be about where to eat in Prague. Naturally, a separate part of it will be devoted to where to drink here, because the famous Czech beer and the old beer halls of Prague are almost legendary.

Beer restaurants in Prague

Yes, yes, in every Prague establishment they will pour you a glass of beer and it is possible that everywhere it will be, if not outstanding, then at least pleasant. But in this chapter we will talk about places where the beer seemed especially tasty to us, but at the same time the food was also decent (that’s why the chapter was called “Restaurants”, and not purely “Beer Prague”)

U Zlaty K onvice

This restaurant is very conveniently located - almost on Old Town Square, but at the same time, it is not a walk-through. We noticed that guests came here not “on the way”, but mainly with a preliminary reservation, and this, verified, is a sign of a good establishment.

Also, the interior - of all the cafes and restaurants in Prague that we visited, the style of U Zlaty Konvice was the one I remember most - this is a classic establishment of Czech cuisine in the “hunting style”, with stuffed animals, antlers, bear skins covering half the walls, heavy wooden furniture. In general, atmospheric and authentic.

Restaurant U Zlaty Konvice

Menu: in U Zlaty Konvice it is varied and convenient - translated into several languages of the world and all positions in it are numbered. That is, you choose a dish that you like in your language and simply tell the waiter its number.

There is a very tender and tasty knuckle (“Boar’s Knee”). True, the side dish for it is weak - a couple of pickled hot peppers. If you want that most delicious stewed cabbage, you need to order it separately. I also recommend trying the Old Bohemian style garlic soup; rumor has it that it is very tasty.

As for the beer at U Zlaty Konvice, we tried Krušovice. It is soft and not bitter at all. It doesn’t have any distinct aftertaste, but this lightness and the absolute absence of bitterness are captivating. And yes, liter beer mugs are certainly strong :)

Restaurant address: Melantrichova 477/22

Prices, as in many restaurants in Prague, are not very high (compared to other European capitals), given that the portions are very large. For dinner for two we left approximately 800 CZK (30 euros)

U tri ruzi

Another national beer restaurant in the center of Prague, where you can eat deliciously and inexpensively. By the way, it was recommended to us by locals, and this already has a certain level of trust in the establishment.

I’ll immediately emphasize that in U tri ruzi (literally “At three roses”) there are 3 floors, remember, THREE. Simply, there is an assumption that the waiters of each floor receive a percentage of the profit of their particular floor, so the “ground floor” staff does not particularly talk about the availability of more rooms, which is very strange - there is a line at the entrance, the waiters ask you to wait for free seats, tables are on the 2nd and The 3rd floor is empty. We knew about this fact, so we sat almost alone on the 2nd floor.

Restaurant U Tri Ruzi

“Three Roses” has very good cuisine - meaty, large knuckle, served with stewed sauerkraut, goulash in bread is very tender and satisfying, and in addition to meat dishes there are delicious Russian-style pickles.

The beer is also good, but not as memorable as in U Zlaty Konvice.

Address: Husova 232/10

U Fleku (U Fleku)

Legendary Prague restaurant-brewery with almost 500 years of history. There are always a lot of people here, there are almost no seats, despite the very large area and several halls. And there is only one reason for this excitement - beer. I am not a connoisseur or a fan of this drink, but I now recognize the taste of beer from the U Fleku brewery from 1000. It is absolutely not bitter and has some unusual taste, very similar to coffee. It is these notes of coffee that make U Fleku beer unusual and memorable.

Restaurant-brewery U Fleku

At U Fleku, guests are not given the right to choose a drink; when you sit down at the table, they immediately bring you a mug of beer and only then a menu. There are a lot of people, there are a lot of waiters (at the same time they manage to devote time to all the guests and even joke), there is a lot of noise, there is still a feeling of a conveyor belt, but I suggest you not pay attention to this, but make noise and have fun with everyone. Here the atmosphere of a real Czech beer hall is more, and if you prefer restaurants where you can roll a ball, then definitely not here - sit in some lounge bar in Moscow City, on a Tuesday afternoon :)

The food at U Fleku is not as outstanding as beer, but decent - sausages, fried loin, Czech potato pancakes (I wonder if Belarusians know that there are also Czech potato pancakes?), very hearty soups (potato and garlic).

In U Fleku, by appointment, you can book a tour of the brewery itself. They only take groups of 10 people or more and only at certain times – from 10:00 to 16:00. The cost of the excursion is 200 CZK per person.

Address: Kremencova 1651/11

In general, we had limited time, so we managed to visit these establishments from the pubs. We were also highly recommended the Peklo restaurant, which is located in the Strahov Monastery. The beer there is rumored to be one of the best in the Czech Republic. Forums and thematic sites spoke well of the beer bars U Medvidku and Vytopna (the beer and food here are ordinary, but they are not served by waiters, but rather are delivered by toy trains on a railway that runs through the entire restaurant).

Romantic restaurants in Prague

It would seem that Prague is purely about “filling your belly with inhuman portions, filling it all with beer, making noise and falling off,” but no, in this city there are many quiet, cozy places where you can easily spend a date evening or just have a nice sit.

Casserol

A restaurant in the very center of the city with sophisticated cuisine, by Czech standards. The portions here are served in an intricate manner, beautifully decorated, the waiters are very friendly, they will tell you in detail about the entire menu and give you some advice.

Preparing dishes for serving at the Casserol restaurant

Here you can drink good wine (even order a tasting), eat dishes with a touch of national cuisine, but ones that you won’t find anywhere else in the city - ribs with honey-onion sauce, duck with potato-garlic sauce, tender lamb meat.

In general, there is no recklessness of Czech pubs here, everything is cozy, quiet, elegant and each guest has his own approach. As is clear from everything written above, we liked it and recommend it.

Address: Karlova 147/44

Velkoprevorsky Mlin

A small restaurant very close to Charles Bridge on the Prague Castle side.

I don't really recommend the local cuisine - it's good, but nothing outstanding, and the prices are not the cheapest. But! It’s definitely worth sitting here and drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, because the place is very atmospheric – both the interior, the veranda, and the main highlight of the place is the wheel of the old mill, which slowly spins in the river. The sound of water, a view of the Charles Bridge, a beautiful interior - a great combination.

Restaurant – mill at the entrance and veranda in the shade of trees

I have friends who celebrated their wedding anniversary here. So yes, this is exactly the kind of event that this place is suitable for.

Address: Hroznova 489/3

U Zlate Studne

Well, according to tradition, a little about panoramic restaurants. We have already talked briefly about Prague restaurant views, in particular about U Prince in the article , Here we will focus on U Zlate Studne. The restaurant is located near Prague Castle and has a beautiful viewing terrace. But at the same time, it’s also delicious. Not cheap, of course, as in all similar restaurants, but the combination of cuisine, level of service and panorama of the most beautiful city in Europe is definitely worth it.

Restaurant U Zlate Studne

The menu is, so to speak, “luxury”: Foie gras, Canadian lobster, black sturgeon caviar. There is a tasting set, but you can also order a la carte.

It is better to book a table in such a place in advance.

Address: Prague 1 - Lesser Town. 4th floor of the Golden Well Hotel

Street food of Prague

The Czech capital has very tasty food in small street stalls and eateries. These include classic caramel apples with gingerbread and national trdelniki, which can be found at every step.

Trdelnik (or Trdlo) is a traditional Czech pastry, similar to an incompletely rolled Sinabon bun. A delicious thing, especially if you take it with some additives - ice cream, vanilla cream or Nutella. The average cost of one trdelnik is 60-65 CZK.

This is what trdeltiki look like - the most popular street food in Prague

Also, all the central streets of Prague smell of pork, because in small open-air eateries they make shanks (only they don’t serve them whole, as in restaurants, but cut them into pieces) and fry sausages. You can often find fried cheese and potato pancakes.

Fair on Old Town Square

Conclusion

As you understand from the text above, we fell in love with Czech cuisine, in my opinion, even more than with Italian cuisine. Everything here is simple, but tasty and very satisfying. In Prague, inexpensive beer bars, small cafes, and fashionable restaurants are homely, cozy and hospitable.

When thinking through your plan, dedicate at least 40% of your time to getting to know the local cuisine, it’s really worth it.

PS: If the article was useful to you, you can thank me by booking a hotel for your trip by going to Booking. Thank you!

Also note soup in bread (Polévka), trdelnik (Trdelník), besides this they are very popular here meat dishes from pork or duck. Such a meal in a restaurant will cost from 5 to 15 euros per person.

Oblaca Restaurant

Where to eat in Prague? There is a local television tower near the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station. The views from the huge windows of the Oblaca restaurant from a height of 66 meters are amazing! Villa Richter Restaurants

The restaurant is located on the territory of the oldest vineyard in the Czech Republic. This ideal place for gourmet food lovers. The Villa Richter restaurant has several different dining areas: open-air, a greenhouse-shaped room and an elegant room with a unique interior.

Art Restaurant Manes

The restaurant, whose ceiling is decorated with frescoes, focuses on Czech cuisine. Here you can enjoy art and excellent food, and look out over the Vltava River from the windows.

Grosseto Marina River Restaurant

This floating two-story restaurant serves only Italian cuisine., but the dishes here are excellent. We recommend taking a seat on the second floor landing, where you can admire the view of the river, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.

The Czech Republic is famous for its numerous establishments with delicious beer and inexpensive food. We will tell you about restaurants, cafes and bars that stand out from the rest with their unique atmosphere and unusual history.

Medieval tavern “At the King of Brabant” (Krčma U krále Brabantského)

One of the oldest Prague taverns, opened in 1375, is shrouded in many secrets and legends.

Rumor has it that city alchemists, the executioner Mydlar, the brilliant Mozart, the great Jaroslav Hasek and countless charlatans of all stripes loved to come here. Such a diverse audience created an atmosphere of real freedom, which can still be felt today. Visitors can enjoy traditional Czech cuisine and delicious beer. Well, the main feature of the tavern is the medieval show.

From Tuesday to Saturday from 19:00 to 22:00, the establishment takes its guests hundreds of years back - before their eyes, a duel of pirates takes place under ancient musical tunes, charming dancers perform, and fakirs command fire.

The medieval surroundings complement the interior of the tavern: antique furniture, skulls on the ceiling, candlesticks on the tables - everything is done so that the visitor forgets what year it is.

It’s also worth noting the inn’s staff: during the show, they transform into typical medieval rabble. In response to any request from a guest, the waitress can shout: “Give me my money first!”, or even simpler, refuse to return the change. If the client still insists on returning the money, she will bring it in a skull and hit it on the table with all her might. Such morals, nothing can be done.

We recommend trying: honey-baked pork ribs with spicy sauce (pečená vepřová žebírka na medu s pikantní omáčkou)

Address: Thunovská 198/15, PRAHA 1 - Malá Strana

Cost of the show program: 195 CZK (8 EUR)

Website: http://www.krcmabrabant.cz/

Primitive restaurantPravěk

To find yourself in the Stone Age you don’t have to invent a time machine, just visit a restaurant in the center of Prague. Cave paintings, stone chairs, rough wooden tables, skins of killed saber-toothed tigers and mammoth tusks on the walls - all this makes the interior of the establishment truly original. The actors of the show program together with the waiters will help you feel like a contemporary of the Flintstones. Together they portray real savages - they hoot, snarl, walk with an awkward gait, beat drums and do much more. Let it be a surprise for your guests.

Let's give just a small example: try to order from a waiter in a loincloth, who answers all questions with incoherent sounds “u”, “u”, “u-u-u”. You can safely forget about cutlery during the show - you will have to eat with your hands. Stone Age, whatever one may say.

We recommend trying: potato soup with mushrooms in bread (Bramboračka s houbami v rozpečeném chlebu).

Address: There are three restaurants in Prague under the name Pravěk, but the original show takes place exclusively in the oldest of them at Sokolská 60, Prague 2

Cost and time of the show program: from 18:00 to 23:00 on weekdays, from 11:30 to 23:30 on weekends.

Old Bohemian restaurant "Monastic Tavern" (Klášterní šenk)

Usually Czechs are not very fond of restaurants with national cuisine, especially if their prices are higher than average - they can cook all the same food themselves at home.

However, this place is always full of locals. Finding a free table without prior reservation is akin to real luck. The success of the establishment is due to a number of factors, but the main one is the atmosphere of warmth, kindness and tranquility. This is because the restaurant is located on the territory of the active Břevnov Monastery, the oldest in the Czech Republic. It was founded back in 993 and has experienced many upheavals since then. During various wars, the monastery was completely destroyed several times, but was again restored by the hardworking monks of the Benedictine order. The motto of the order is: “Pray and work.”

Benedictines of the Břevnov Monastery

It is interesting that immediately after the founding of the monastery they began to brew beer in it. Břevnov brewery is the oldest in the Czech Republic and is famous for its brewing traditions. In the restaurant you can see this for yourself by ordering one of the types of the monastery Benedict variety. Not only the beer, but also the cuisine here is very good: everything is very tasty, from the bread that the monks themselves bake to the pork knee, without exaggeration, the best in the city.

We recommend trying: baked pork knee (Obpečený koleno vepře s divokýma višněma)

Address: Markétská 1/28, Prague 6

Beer pubThePUB

A paradise for all fans of the foamy drink. The concept of the establishment is simple, like everything ingenious: each table in it is equipped with a beer dispensing system with four taps. No more waiting for the waiter - pour and drink. The liters drunk are counted electronically and display the data on a touchscreen, which allows you to order drinks and dishes remotely.

The bar became so popular that it opened its branches in many Czech cities and even other countries.

Another interesting thing is that information is collected via the Internet about the amount of beer consumed in a specific establishment at each specific table and broadcast on a large screen. If you come with a friendly group, you can compete in international “literball” with “athletes” from Germany, Austria and Romania.

Must Try: Baked Spicy Chicken Wings with Homemade BBQ Sauce (PUB Wings)

Address: Veleslavínova 3, Prague 1

Website: http://www.thepub.cz/

Restaurant "Locomotive Depot" (Výtopna)

An original establishment that will delight children and adults. The duties of the waiters here do not include serving drinks; the trains do this instead. Each table has rails along which a locomotive pulls cars with mugs and glasses. After the train arrives, visitors need to pick up the ordered drinks and put empty containers in their place.

The restaurant simultaneously operates 15 realistic models of locomotives from different eras. Particularly impressive is their power (each baby is capable of carrying 12 mugs of beer) and speed (up to 20 km/h). The average cost of one model is about 800 euros.

Address: Václavské nám. 56 (palac Fenix), Prague 1

Website: http://praha.vytopna.cz

Bar "Coyotes" (Coyotes Praha)

An excellent place for lovers of nightlife, the main feature of which is the fiery dancing of beauties on the bar. Sexy barmaids not only dance dashingly to famous hits, but also demonstrate mastery of fire, water and all other elements.

Everything is like in the famous movie “Coyote Ugly Bar.” The atmosphere of truly unbridled fun here can be eaten with spoons.

Address: Malé náměstí 2, Prague 1

Show time: daily, every 30 minutes starting at 22:00

Website: http://www.coyotesprague.cz

Vegetarian restaurant "Light Head" (Lehká hlava)

Prague is a meat city. On every street, on every corner you can hear the smell of boiled, fried, stewed or raw meat. Vegetarians have a hard time, but they also have an outlet. The Light Head cafe fully lives up to its name. Stunning interior, melodious music, delicious food, crackling wood in the fireplace - everything you need for an intimate meeting or a cozy time alone with your thoughts and your favorite book. There is truly a special energy here that is difficult to describe, but can be felt.

Cafe, bar and restaurantOBLACA

The restaurant, located in a recently renovated complex inside the Žižkov TV Tower, will take its visitors away from earthly problems to a height of 66 meters. At any time of the day, there is a magnificent view of the beautiful Prague from here. The modern style of the restaurant goes well with the futuristic appearance of the tower itself, more reminiscent of an alien rocket.

What makes the structure fantastic is the sculptures of babies crawling on it, clearly not like earthly children (the author of the work is the famous Czech artist David Černý). Dinner here can be a great idea for a date or a friendly meeting. In any case, it will remain in the memory for a long time.
