Happy beginning of Lent, my dears!
During Lent, there is often a lack of something tasty and sweet for tea or coffee. And here a simply gorgeous recipe for chocolate manna without milk, without eggs will come to the rescue - absolutely lean and amazingly tasty! It is very similar to the classic manna, but even better! Super chocolatey, bright, rich taste of Lenten manna will not leave anyone indifferent! Adding nuts and candied fruits to the dough gives the pie a special taste. Sometimes even Lenten baked goods can be no worse than the butter baked goods we are used to, which is why this chocolate pie is very easy to prepare and also very budget-friendly. The ingredients for the manna pie can be bought at any nearby store.

The taste of chocolate manna can be made even richer and brighter by adding a spoonful of coffee to the dough. And on top of the cake you can pour melted dark chocolate and sprinkle with chopped nuts, for example, hazelnuts or walnuts - then you will have a completely lean cake. Such a pie can be included both in the everyday Lenten menu and prepared for holidays that sometimes fall during Lent, for example, on the birthday of a loved one. And just a family tea party with a piece of aromatic lean chocolate pastry is already happiness! Those who fast will understand what I'm talking about ;)

Fantasize, cook with pleasure, and let Lent be a joy!

During fasting, you still want something tasty for tea. Therefore, I propose to bake a lean chocolate manna. The baked goods turn out delicious. Once you try it, you will want to please your loved ones with this manna more than once.

Ingredients

To prepare lean chocolate manna you will need:

1 cup semolina;
1 cup of sugar;

1 glass of water;
120 ml refined sunflower oil;

100 g wheat flour;
3 tbsp. l. cocoa powder;

50 g raisins;
0.5 cups peeled walnuts;
1.5 tsp. baking powder;
10 g vanilla sugar;
powdered sugar for sprinkling.

Cooking steps

Mix semolina with sugar, add water, mix well again and leave for about 1 hour.

After time, add sunflower oil, sifted flour and baking powder to the mixture of semolina and water, mix.

Then add vanilla sugar, cocoa, chopped nuts, raisins and mix well again.

Pour the resulting dough into the mold (if the mold is silicone, then you don’t have to grease it with oil), put it in an oven preheated to 180 degrees and bake the manna for 50 minutes.

Cool the finished lean chocolate manna, sprinkle with powdered sugar, cut into portions and serve. The baked goods turn out appetizing and very tasty.

On an excursion to the monastery I tried Lenten chocolate manna. I was amazed that it was completely egg and dairy free.

This is an amazing dish: very tender, fluffy, incredibly tasty. Real cake! I managed to get the recipe for this miracle product. And today I want to tell you how to make lean chocolate manna at home. I make this cake very often, even not during fasting.

The best part is that it is absolutely simple and economical to prepare. And you will see this for yourself soon.

Ingredients:

semolina - 230 grams;
flour - 70 grams;
sugar - 200 grams;
cocoa - 60 grams;
salt - 0.5 teaspoon;
baking powder - 1 teaspoon (heaped);
sunflower oil - 90 milliliters;
water - 400 milliliters;
pitted cherries - 50-100 grams.

For chocolate glaze:

cocoa - 3 tablespoons;
water - 8 tablespoons;

vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon.

Lenten chocolate mannik. Step by step recipe

Mix all the dry ingredients: semolina, granulated sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix everything well.
Add refined vegetable oil, water to the dry mass and knead the dough. Recommendation for adding water - do not pour it all at once, but in small portions, in 2-3 additions - this is so that lumps do not form and the dough is homogeneous. As a result, we should get a beautiful brown mass, the consistency of pancakes (maybe a little thicker).
Let the dough stand and rest for 15-20 minutes.
Grease the baking dish with vegetable oil. I used a mold with a diameter of 27 centimeters.
Pour half of the chocolate dough, level it with a spatula or spoon, and place pitted cherries on top. You can also use any others (canned, frozen, washed fresh), just dry them slightly on a towel.
Carefully pour in the second half of the dough and level it out.
Place in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20-30 minutes. The time depends on the oven and the diameter of the mold - the smaller the diameter, the longer it will take to bake, because the thickness of the chocolate manna will increase. Also: since my oven gets a little hot on the bottom of the baked goods, I place a bowl of water on the bottom of the oven. And everything bakes evenly for me and doesn’t burn. If you have the same problem, take my advice.
For chocolate glaze: combine cocoa powder, sugar, vegetable oil and water, mix well and put on low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the first gurgles appear. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Pour the finished cooled chocolate manna with lukewarm glaze. It turned out as beautiful as a cake. Place it in the refrigerator for an hour until slightly soaked.

The most delicate lean chocolate manna is ready. The dough is soft, fluffy, sweet, but with a slight fruity sourness. Instead of chocolate glaze, it can be sprinkled with powdered sugar or smeared with jam. This pie is a godsend during Lent. Stay with “Very Tasty” - we still have many delicious recipes without eggs and milk! And be sure to try it

As I already wrote in the previous article about, I’m looking for Lenten baking recipes to bake for my son’s birthday, if we like them. So this recipe works great.

It was tested not only on my family, but my husband’s parents also tried it, and then my mother-in-law took the recipe from me and prepared the same one, only instead of regular water she decided to take mineral water and also added lemon zest.

In order to prepare Lenten manna we need:

  • Semolina - 200 g
  • Boiled water at room temperature - 200 ml
  • Flour - 150 g
  • Vegetable oil 100 ml
  • Cocoa powder - 3 tablespoons
  • Vanillin - 1 sachet (2 g)
  • Sugar - 180 g
  • Baking powder - 2 teaspoons

Lenten manna recipe with photo

The first thing we need to do is let the semolina swell. Pour 200 g of semolina into a deep bowl, add granulated sugar, necessarily boiled water at room temperature and vegetable oil. Mix everything and leave in a warm place to swell.

Why do we add boiled water? My mother experimentally found out that any baked goods when using boiled water turn out tastier and more tender, so I follow my parent’s experience).

I did this: I turned on the gas burner to low heat, placed semolina next to it on the table, it was just warm and it swollen perfectly. If you have a warm place, the semolina will swell in an hour, if not, then you need to wait 2 hours.

After the semolina is ready for further actions with it. The recipe called for hazelnuts, but I didn't have any, so I added walnuts, which we have in abundance. I crushed them a little in a mortar. I also added prunes and dried apricots, I just had a little of these dried fruits left.

First, I washed them thoroughly, dried them and cut them into small pieces. I added nuts and chopped dried fruits to the dough. You can add raisins, candied fruits, and limine or orange zest.

When baking Lenten manna, my mother-in-law added the zest of one lemon and raisins, and she also added cocoa instead of 3 tablespoons, so she got it with a light chocolate tint. I tried her Lenten manna, and I really liked it too. I added 3 tablespoons of cocoa to mine according to the recipe and the taste turned out to be rich chocolate.

Now you need to sift the flour with baking powder, cocoa powder and vanilla. Stirring the mixture in small portions, add the sifted flour into the semolina. The result is a thick dough.

When the dough for Lenten manna is prepared, grease the mold with vegetable oil, I used a ceramic one, lay out the dough, level it with a spoon if necessary and put it in an already preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, depending on your oven. We check the readiness with a wooden skewer; if it is dry, then the lean manna is ready.

By the way, there is a non-lenten recipe on the blog, which we will bake in May.

When baking there is a wonderful aroma of cocoa and vanilla, and the children, as always, were running around and couldn’t wait for me to take the pie out of the oven).

Cool the finished manna and you can sprinkle it with powdered sugar, although I didn’t do this, but you can sprinkle it for beauty, the powder will look good on dark chocolate baked goods.

Having tried the Lenten semolina pie, I am once again convinced that Lenten pastries are not inferior in taste to the butter that we bake with eggs and butter.

The manna turned out to be tender, soft, aromatic, we all really liked it, so I’ll definitely make it for my son’s birthday and some other Lenten pie, which we have also already tried and which I will talk about in other articles.

This recipe can be used not only during Lent, because it deserves it for its taste and quality. You can use this dough to bake chocolate semolina cupcakes in single molds, you can make a cake by dividing the donut into two parts and spreading it in the middle with your favorite jam or jam, in general there are many variations, the main thing is that it turns out delicious and does not take long to cook if you take care of soaking the semolina in advance . In fact, there are a lot of recipes for delicious Lenten pie, take for example, which my whole family loved and now I bake it not only during Lent.

Secrets of preparing delicious Lenten manna:

  • Boiled water should be added at room temperature.
  • Be sure to let the semolina swell well
  • Add odorless vegetable oil
  • Be sure to add dried fruits (dried apricots, prunes, candied fruits, raisins) with them the pie will be tastier.

I hope you, dear readers, will like this recipe, even if you don’t fast, try this pie, I’m sure you won’t remain indifferent.

With respect and love, Elena Kurbatova.
