How to bake a dinosaur cake at home. Chocolate cake “Dinosaur. What you need to create an unusual treat

MK DOG from levitskay

To make a cake in the shape of a dog weighing 2.5-3 kg. you'll need:
1 liter of pastry cream;
1 vanilla sponge cake measuring 21x30 cm (A4 format) and height 6-7 cm;
1 chocolate sponge cake measuring 21x30 cm (A4 format) and height 6-7 cm;
1 can of boiled condensed milk;
2-3 tablespoons of starch;
2-3 tablespoons of powdered sugar;
1 can (450 ml) of any canned fruit.

Once your biscuits are ready, they should “rest” under a towel for at least a day. Each of them needs to be cut crosswise to make 4 cake layers. Whip half the cream with powdered sugar and half the amount of starch. This is the cream for filling the cake. Gently mix the second half of the cream with 2/3 of a can of condensed milk and the remaining starch and also beat until stiff peaks form. This will be a cream for the “wool”. For the first layer, the biscuit must be cut according to pattern 1.

The first layer of sponge cake should be soaked in fruit juice, and fruit cut into thin pieces should be placed on it:

This pattern already has one more back leg, which should lie on the lower back leg. Soak the cake with biscuit, add fruit, then cream.
From the vanilla cake we cut out a figure according to pattern 3. The basis for forming a dog is ready:

Next, I cut out 2 circles from the remaining biscuit, one with a diameter the size of the dog’s head, and the other smaller, for the back of the dog. Naturally, I soak the biscuit under these details, put fruit and cream. For the dog’s ears, I cut out a rectangle, such that when I put it on the head, the ends of the rectangle hang down. I make the middle part of the rectangle thinner so that the head is not too large, and I round the edges of the rectangle:

If necessary, at this stage I adjust the shape - I cut off the excess; if somewhere the shape seems too flat, I add pieces of sponge cake soaked in syrup. Obmaz

Grease baking pans D = 23 and 25 cm with oil (it is advisable to place baking paper on the bottom), then pour the dough into them and bake at t = 175 degrees. about 40 min. It is important to bake two cakes at once!
Check the readiness of our cakes with a toothpick or match.

Leave the finished cake in the mold for 10-15 minutes, and then carefully remove it from the mold and cool on a wire rack to room temperature.

We decorate the cake. First you need to cut the small cake in half and attach the halves to each other - this will be the body of our dinosaur.
A large cake must be cut according to the diagram and formed from all the dinosaur parts:

Then you need to take the cake out of the refrigerator and cover the entire surface with cream in an even layer.

Now we can start decorating our dinosaur.

This is the wonderful chocolate cake “Dinosaur” that Ira made.

Today I will tell you how I made a dinosaur cake for my son in honor of his second birthday.

For the cake you needed:

1) eggs, flour, sugar (for cakes)
2) mastic
3) marzipan 50%
4) strawberries, bananas
5) AmeriColor gel dyes
6) tools for mastic and marzipan
7) rolling pin for mastic
8) vodka
9) knife
10) gel for coating fruit cakes
11) silicone mat
12) sponge brush
13) cake base
14) pan lid (for cutting out a circle)
15) candle "2"
16) iron for smoothing mastic and marzipan
17) syrup for impregnation
18) food flavoring
19) spoon, glass, plate

First I baked three sponge cakes.
Then I prepared the necessary tools and materials for work.

When the cakes had cooled, I cut out three circles using a pan lid. The diameter of the lid is 16 cm. The cake ended up being almost 18 cm in diameter.
Then I rolled out the chocolate fondant and cut out a circle the same diameter as the cakes. When I transferred the sheet of mastic to the substrate, I stretched it a little so that there was a small margin for attaching the top layer of marzipan and mastic.
Then I placed the first cake layer on the mastic and soaked it with lemon syrup on top.

Our family traditional cakes are always dairy-free, because... My daughter is allergic to milk, so I used my kids’ favorite fruits - bananas and strawberries.

I soaked the middle cake with lemon syrup from the bottom and top, and the top cake only from the bottom.
When the sponge base was ready, I rolled out the marzipan, cut out a circle and covered the cake. I wrapped the edges with a strip of marzipan.
It is this kind of covering that turns out to be much neater than covering it with a whole sheet of marzipan and then cutting off the excess.
The surface of the cake was leveled using a pastry iron.

The birthday boy slept while my daughter and I carefully prepared the surprise.
In the photo you can see my baby’s little hands carefully attaching the “mastic chocolates” to the marzipan.
Together with my daughter, we quickly decorated the sides of the cake and I started covering the top.
I rolled out a piece of milky mastic of the required diameter, made a depression in it with a rolling pin for the lake and depicted the texture by pressing the mold of the sheet.
I stamped the edges in a circle with the sharp end of a leaf, and then cut out the resulting zigzag with a knife.
The resulting oasis was transferred to the cake.

And now the most interesting...
How to paint mastic without an airbrush.

I use AmeriColor gel dyes to color mastic and marzipan.

Previously, I colored the mastic by adding a few drops of dye to the mixture and mixing well. This process took me a decent amount of time.
On top of everything, my hands were painted in the most incredible colors!
If I painted small pieces of mastic, I put them in a bag and crushed them in the bag so as not to get my hands dirty.
But I've done all this before...

Today I did it differently.
I rolled out an unpainted piece of fondant, transferred it to the cake and only then painted it.
I needed brown, black, two shades of green and blue dyes.
To apply the color evenly, I had to mix the dye with a small amount of vodka (just a little, just a few drops for each color).
After which I applied the dyes to the mastic using a sponge brush, blotting the surface a little. This is how the paint applies very evenly and does not remain a puddle on the surface.

I got a blue lake.... I got a stunning grass surface - with shades of green from light to black-brown...
Of course, it’s impossible to say that the effect was the same as after using an airbrush... But it turned out pretty good.
In general, I was pleased with the result and I’m sure I will use this coloring option again and again...
I saved a lot of time, effort and soap on washing my hands!

The effect of simulating water was achieved using a dent in mastic, blue dye and confectionery gel!

Now the landscape is ready!

Afterwards, I made two dinosaurs, leaves and flowers, and on wafer paper I wrote the name of my birthday boy and the congratulation “Happy Birthday!” with an edible felt-tip pen.
Then I transferred all the decor onto the cake.

Here's the cake!

And here are some photos of the culmination of the holiday.
Alas, it was not possible to photograph how the dinosaurs were eaten.... Some incomprehensible part of one of the dinosaurs lies to the right of my daughter.
The cake was mercilessly bitten and the lake was licked...
And only after our children had played enough, I cut everyone a piece of cake.

Thank you for your attention!

The best gift is a sweet gift, guaranteed by anyone with a sweet tooth. What to do when a holiday is just around the corner, but you don’t want to treat your baby and guests to store-bought cakes? If a child is delighted with dinosaurs and everything connected with them, you can give him an original cake with dinosaurs as a gift. It’s quite simple and won’t take much time, but your baby and his friends will be in a good mood. Especially if they love dinosaurs too! If your baby loves shaped treats, then you can try making him a cake as a gift. Your child will be no less, if not more, happy about such a surprise than a regular cake.

What does it take to create an unusual treat?

  • in the shape of a dinosaur.
  • green (for example, spinach or its juice).
  • Triangular and round ice molds.
  • Delicious custard.
  • Round candies or dragees for decorating the cake.
  • Jelly is yellow, purple or any other color - at your discretion.
  • Whipped cream.
  • Prunes (optional).

How to make a Dinosaur cake?

First you need to prepare all the necessary ingredients. We give the cakes the shape of a dinosaur by cutting them with a special pattern. Once everything is ready, you can start creating the treat. Place the cakes on a table covered with cling film or oilcloth. If there are several cake layers, or one cake is cut into several parts, you should coat the joints of the sponge cake with cream. Then you need to give the cakes a cheerful green color. To do this, take food coloring and whisk it together with the butter cream. Carefully coat the future cake on all sides with the resulting “greenery”. There should be no gaps through which the cake peeks out, nor too thick, uneven strokes, so as not to create the impression that this is not a cake, but an oil painting. The product should be coated evenly using a spoon or culinary spatula.

All is ready? It's time to move on to decorating the delicacy. Now you will need jelly, cut into triangles and circles. Place the triangles on the back, head and tail, evenly, slightly pressing into the biscuit, but not too hard so as not to spoil the dish. You can decorate the belly of the future dinosaur with circles. Now it's time for the peephole. Using whipped cream, draw two large dots on the face. Press a black dragee or prune into the middle of each creamy circle. The dinosaur eyes are ready! If you want them to be more expressive and shiny, you can use cream to draw another dot on the black “pupil”.

Finishing touches

Our ancient guest from the past is almost ready, but the final touch is missing. We decorate the body of the edible reptile with dragees or other round candies at our discretion - here you can show your imagination and call on your imagination to help. Remember that many children’s cakes turn out beautiful and original, but the dinosaur should truly amaze and surprise your guests. At the end of all the work, use a pastry spatula to carefully draw a “smile” of the dinosaur. Or you can line the outline of the mouth with sweets or prunes. The choice is yours. That's all. Our dinosaur cake is ready!

Second delicacy option

The first version of the holiday delicacy is very good for a gift and table decoration. But what to do if there is no way to reproduce such a culinary masterpiece, but you really want to try the original treat? In this case, you can try to make a cake with dinosaurs and it will turn out no less beautiful and unusual, but you won’t have to waste time giving the sponge cake its original shape.

How to make dinosaurs from fondant?

First you need to decide on the appearance of the product, the specific arrangement of parts on it. It is advisable to sketch a sketch in which the details of the future delicacy will be clearly visible. Then you can start preparing the treat. Mix the mastic, adding food coloring to it. After the mastic is ready, carefully cover the future cake with dinosaurs with it. To do this, roll it out with a rolling pin, making sure that the diameter of the sweet coating is 2 times the diameter of the cake. In order for the coating to be smooth and shiny, it is worth going over it with an iron several times. Then we carefully lift the resulting mastic with a rolling pin and transfer it to the cake, carefully smoothing out all the folds and irregularities. The future delicacy is almost ready, all that remains is to add the main thing - dinosaurs. To create them, roll out a ball of mastic of the appropriate color in your hand and sculpt in turn the torso, paws, and head of a guest from the past. Modeling from mastic is very similar to the process of creating figures from plasticine. You need to glue the parts using alcohol or water, making sure that they are firmly connected to each other.

Shutdown

After the figures are glued together, you need to place them on the future cake with dinosaurs. We place the products on a toothpick, trying to do this carefully and carefully. Then we continue to sculpt the figures to taste and also place them over the entire surface of the delicacy. At the end of the work, you can write congratulations on the cake. Or you can cut out letters from mastic and put words out of them. In any case, the cake with dinosaurs will turn out to be unusual and very beautiful. You can safely give original cakes - they will make a unique impression on the recipient. A mastic treat with representatives of the ancient animal world and a DIY “Dinosaur” cake are an excellent gift idea for a child of any age.

two paper templates based on these images (click to enlarge). You can either print them out or transfer them onto a sheet of paper manually, while looking at the picture on the screen. Either way, make sure the pattern is the right size for a 23cm cake layer.

Bake two cakes with a diameter of 23 cm and let them cool completely. Remove the cakes from the baking pan.

  • Self-prepared cakes will be denser and stronger than semi-finished ones. It may take longer, but your cake will come out neater and easier to decorate later.
  • If you have time, freeze the cake layers before assembling the dinosaur. This will make them less crumbly when smeared with cream.
  • Cut out the dinosaur's body. Determine the center of one cake layer. Cut the crust in half with a serrated bread knife. Place the two halves together, with the cut edges touching, on a work surface as shown. This is the body of a dinosaur. Set it aside.

    Cut out other body parts. Cut out the paper templates and place them on top of the second layer (exactly as they were drawn, cut them only after they have been laid out correctly). Cut out the pieces from the crust.

    • Before you start cutting the crust, lay out the pieces of paper on your body segment to see how they look. If there are any cuts or adjustments you want to make, make them on paper before cutting your crust into pieces.
  • Collect a dinosaur. Look at the photo on the right for help. Connect the two parts using white cream. Then attach the other body parts. Place the head on the body using a toothpick (pay attention to where it goes so it doesn't accidentally end up in someone's piece of cake later). Trim the corners and square edges on the legs and shoulders to your liking.

    Using a spatula, spread a thin layer of green cream over the top of the cake. This is called crumb coating - and for good reason, because a lot of crumbs fall off and are mixed into the cream. Lightly press the surface of the cake. This will be to your advantage as the cake mix is quite crumbly and difficult to work with.

    Decorate the dinosaur with scales. Pipe buttercream stars onto green frosting, then mix in blue stars for accent.

  • Add the mastic sheets. Lay out the mastic sheets in a polygon shape on the back. If the fondant icing doesn't stick well, insert a toothpick into the plate and then stick it into the cake.

    • To prepare the plates, roll out the mastic into flat cakes 3 mm thick. Cut the fondant with a small knife to create polygon-shaped plates for the dinosaur. Prick the slices with a toothpick to give them a ribbed texture. Make as many blanks as will fit on your dinosaur.
