Shihan ranks third in sales volume among Russian regional beer brands owned by United Heineken Breweries LLC. The drink is produced by one of the largest divisions of the company - the Shikhan plant located in Sterlitamak.
Historical reference. Sterlitamak brewers date their history back to 1884, when merchant Sergei Aleksandrovich Dezortsev opened a brewery in the city. But the modern buildings of the enterprise were erected in 1984. The Sterlitamak beer and soft drink plant was equipped with Czech equipment; the plant’s capacity was designed to produce 720 thousand hectoliters (72 million liters) of beer per year.
Until the 90s of the 20th century, the plant’s assortment did not shine with originality: it produced “Zhigulevskoye”, “Barley Ear” and other popular brands of beer. In 1992, the enterprise received a short name - “Shikhan” (Shikhan is the name given to the four mountain peaks of the Bashkir Cis-Urals - Kushtau, Yuraktau, Toratau and Shakhtau). The plant's technologists have developed a new recipe for light beer "Shikhan".
In 2004, the plant was acquired by Heineken. The enterprise was re-equipped, and by 2007 it was producing 2 million hectoliters (200 million liters) of beer annually. Today, the plant’s capacity allows it to produce 2.2 million hectoliters per year.
A bright, memorable label was created for Shikhan beer: the Bashkir white-tailed eagle against the backdrop of the Shikhanov Mountains became the symbol of the brand. After studying the tastes of consumers, the company began producing new types of beer: since 2009 - “Shikhan Live”, since 2011 - “Shikhan Dark”.
Every year in June, the plant hosts Brewer's Day, when the plant opens its doors to beer lovers, and everyone can see how the foamy drink is made.
The Shihan brewery is a sponsor of many sporting events. In 2013, the plant’s funds were used to install the “Tribune” sculpture in Ufa, dedicated to the fans of the Salavat Yulaev hockey club.

“Shikhan Zhivoe” is an unpasteurized light beer with a strength of 4.4%, density – 10.5%.
“Shikhan buckwheat” is a light beer with a strength of 4.7%, density – 11.5%.
“Shihan dark” is a dark beer (porter) with a strength of 4.9%, density – 11%.

History of the brewery
The name for the foamy drink was not chosen by chance, in honor of the four isolated mountains of the Bashkir Cis-Urals - Yuraktau, Kushtau, Shakhtau, Toratau, united by the common name “Shikhany”. Sterlitamak, Salavat, Ishimbay are cities near which there are stone formations that are the remains of a barrier reef formed millions of years ago.
Sterlitamak in 1956 became the city that the Council of Ministers of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic chose for the construction of a brewery. In those years, the enterprise was called "Sterlitamak Beer and Soft Drinks Plant." The brewery's capacity even then was 150 million liters of foamy drink per year.
In addition to standard varieties such as “Zhigulevskoe”, “Rizhskoe” and “Moskovskoe”, the plant produced its own branded beer - “Sterlitamakskoe”, “Solyannaya Pristan”, “Sedoy Ural” and “Shikhan”. Already in 2004, the plant became part of the Dutch company Heineken United Breweries LLC. Today "Shikhan" is the largest branch of the brewing industry in Bashkortostan.

The Shihan company today produces several:

Along with its branded varieties, the plant produces several types of corporate brands: “PIT”, “Okhota”, “Three Bears” and “Bochkarev”, as well as three types of kvass, lemonade and mineral water.
Expansion of the range
More recently, the Heineken company decided to expand its range of beer by releasing a new variety, Shikhan Buckwheat. In June last year, a drink brewed using buckwheat went on sale for the first time. This is a light lager with a strength of 4.5 degrees and a density of no more than 11 percent. A special feature of this beer is the bright characteristic taste of buckwheat and a slight bitterness.
According to the director of the plant, Georgy Gubeladze, the introduction of new varieties of foamy drink is something that will absolutely help strengthen the company’s position among competitors in the market. Since recently consumers are increasingly making a choice in favor of products produced within our country, the decision to release Shikhan buckwheat beer was quite easy and quick. Why buckwheat? Because the Russian Federation is the largest producer of buckwheat and consumer.
Beer design update
Since the appearance of the beer label, produced since 1986, is already significantly outdated and is no longer perceived as interesting and informative, the producers of Shihan beer decided to change its design. Soldis decided to entrust the creation of a modern label to the company. In the process of working on the new “face” of a bottle of foamy drink, it was decided to tie the pride of Bashkiria to the brand name - the Branding Agency managed to complete all the assigned tasks and achieve an attractive, easy to read and memorable label.
Festival "Shihan Brewery Day"
On June 18, 2016 there was an incredible celebration of the birthday of the Shihan plant. Sterlitamak and its residents and guests of the city are already accustomed to this annual holiday, so they gladly joined the show held right on the territory of the enterprise. Russian singer Stas Kostyushkin and the cheerleaders of the Salavat Yulaev hockey team gave the audience a real charge of positivity and a great mood. The host of the event, according to tradition, was the cheerful showman Azamat Muratov.
In addition to the main entertainment program, streetball and air hockey games were available to guests. And it was quite difficult to stay hungry at the festival, because the organizers made sure to heartily feed the guests with barbecue, pilaf and pastries. Even fast food lovers had a place to roam.
From the very beginning of the event until its completion, the entire territory was under the strict supervision of security. Therefore, every guest felt safe.
