Bright Sunday of Christ has always been considered not only the main holiday of Christians, but also one of the most beloved.

This holiday has always been celebrated on a special scale. And this applied to both the preparation and preparation of treats intended for the Easter table.

Easter feast traditions

The tradition of setting rich and varied tables for Easter has quite deep historical roots.

Preparations for the great celebration began on Maundy Thursday, when skillful housewives set the dough for Easter cakes, laid the foundations for Easter eggs, began painting Easter eggs and painted unique Easter eggs.

Young wheat or sheep were grown especially for the holiday. Painted Easter eggs were laid out on this delicate greenery.

In wealthy homes, at least 48 dishes were served at the festive table.

This tradition is due to the fact that the name lasted 48 days.

Traditionally, pancakes and babas were served on the Easter table, as well as original Easter gingerbread cookies, which were baked for the holiday in the form of hares, cockerels or doves.

Baked meat was a must at the table.

Usually these were baked chickens or pork hams, young lamb or veal.

Hot dishes were not served on the table, because the Easter table had been set for a long time and was ready to receive guests for a whole week.

For Orthodox Christians, the Easter holidays began with the end of Easter itself, which lasted a whole 7 weeks. The festive feast began with breaking the fast, which was especially pleasant after a long abstinence from fast food.

For breaking the fast, those products that were blessed during the Easter service were displayed. The first foods eaten were, of course, eggs and a piece of Easter cake.

During long periods of fasting, the consumption of any animal products was prohibited.

Therefore, housewives tried to prepare as many hearty dishes of meat, fish, as well as complex salads and baked goods for the festive table.

Modern housewives, regardless of whether the family observed fasting, try to keep up with their great-grandmothers and prepare a wide variety of dishes for the Easter table.

These will be your favorite Easter cakes, Easter cottage cheese, as well as painted eggs, which will take center stage on the festive table, served in accordance with the Easter theme.

In addition, housewives are sure to select interesting recipes for preparing new dishes, which they use to complement their most successful culinary masterpieces.

Easter is one of the most significant Orthodox holidays, both in Russia and among Christians around the world. Along with Christmas, Easter is celebrated on a grand scale, with all the “breadth of the Russian soul.”

This Bright holiday is endowed with its own traditions and special dishes that are prepared exclusively on this day.

When is Easter 2018 celebrated: date and traditions

One of the features of Easter is that it does not have a specific celebration date. The only thing that remains unchanged is Sunday. Every year the Orthodox celebration is celebrated either in April or in May. What determines such a spread in dates?

To find out what date Easter falls on, they use the lunar calendar. It is not difficult to determine this; the main thing is to know the schedule of all moon cycles. The Orthodox holiday falls on the first Sunday, which occurs after the first spring phase of the full moon. Church calendars are compiled on this basis.

Holiday traditions

What does the Easter holiday bring with it? It is always light, faith in the best and infinite superiority of life and goodness over the world of darkness and death.

The celebration is accompanied by Orthodox traditions, dating back to ancient times. Of course, many of them have outlived their usefulness or have been radically transformed, but many still remain relevant to this day.

The remembrance of deceased relatives, friends and loved ones remains unchanged on this holiday. In some regions of Russia, on this day visits are made to cemeteries to honor the memory, despite the fact that, according to tradition, this action is performed a week after Easter.

Another traditional event is the observance of Maundy Thursday, which takes place 3 days before the main celebration. On this day, Orthodox people restore order in their home, their thoughts and body, that is, they restore cleanliness.

But, perhaps, the most important and beloved tradition for everyone was painting Easter eggs and baking Easter cake, which are symbols of Easter. Many people now make it easier for themselves to prepare for the holiday by simply buying ready-made Easter cakes, the choice of which is huge on store shelves.

Another symbol of the holiday is Lent, which, according to tradition, must be maintained for 48 days, and its end falls on Easter Sunday. Fasting is observed for spiritual and physical cleansing.

However, few people currently strictly observe all the requirements of Lent, since the modern rhythm of life and refusal of food are incompatible things. And the Orthodox Church is now loyal to the fact of abandoning Fasting, believing that the main thing for a person is the purification of his thoughts.

On the night before Easter, services are held in temples and churches, accompanied by the blessing of festive food - eggs and Easter cakes, which are then placed on the table. By the way, there is a fun tradition of an egg breaking competition, the meaning of which is who can break them the most.

Another Christian tradition during the celebration of Easter is to say “Christ is Risen!” as a sign of greeting.

These symbolic actions, timed to coincide with the celebration of Easter, are observed with pleasure by millions of Orthodox Russians.

Easter is also the day of the end of Lent, so the festive table is replete with various dishes. But the main symbols of the holiday are present on every table in every home. These are Easter colored eggs, Easter cake and Easter cottage cheese, which is prepared with various tasty, sweet additives.

What's delicious to cook for Easter? Since eggs are the “highlight” of the holiday menu, they can be used in various dishes, for example, salads, pies and pies, made into aspic, and stuffed with a variety of fillings.

Also, the presence of meat dishes from beef and poultry will not be amiss. Baskets filled with various fruits and sweets will be a great addition as a treat.

In most Russian families, it is customary to cook for Easter:

  • aspic;
  • meat aspic;
  • all kinds of salads;
  • pickles;
  • sausages;
  • pies.

  3. The husks are removed from the broth, and eggs are placed in it and boiled for 10 minutes.
