The blue packaging with the image of a golden lion and the proud name are about Richard tea. However, this brand is famous not only for its stylish box design and royal “name,” but also for the good quality of its tea products. Richard's manufacturer takes a responsible approach to his business, creating different blends taking into account English tea traditions.

We have all known representatives of the English royal nobility since our school days. Undoubtedly, one of the most popular is King Richard I the Lionheart. That is why, hearing the name of this tea, we seem to be transported to the medieval era of the reign of the English kings.

A little history

In the 19th century, tea masters from the British company Richard produced teas for kings and their entourage. At the same time, the composition of the resulting tea blends was kept secret. And tea for the royal nobility was stored in special chests on which a lion was depicted. It was from that time that the king of beasts in golden color began to be used as its own distinctive symbol of Richard tea products.

About the manufacturer

Today, Royal Richard tea is produced by the Russian company "MAY", which combines 5 different business areas. The production of hot drinks is carried out by MAY-Foods. The company's product list also includes teas from well-known brands: Lisma, Maisky, Curtis.

In what year did Richard tea appear on the shelves of domestic stores? The MAY company launched its new brand in 2014. Then they produced the first batch of Richard tea and began supplying it to all regions of our country. Today, the manufacturer presents the products of this brand as “high quality English tea with a royal history.”

On a note! Currently, the MAY company has its own representative offices in such “tea” countries as Sri Lanka, India and Kenya. Thanks to this, good quality raw materials are supplied to Russia. MAY-Foods also has a certificate of compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 standard from BSI.

Assortment and types

Richard's products are divided into types depending on the degree of fermentation of the tea leaves, the type of processing and packaging. The assortment includes green and black Richard (including with additives). Royal tea is packaged in separate boxes (weighing 90 and 180 g), bags, sachets and gift tins (100 g each).

The range of products of this brand is varied. Let's take a look at the entire Richard tea collection.

Black tea

The manufacturer distinguishes classic tea and new classics. The first includes:

  1. Royal Ceylon(Royal Ceylon), consisting of highland tea originally from Ceylon and has a mild taste and slightly sweet notes.
  2. Lord and Earl Grey. Richard Earl Gray tea is also Ceylon, but with bergamot (flavoring). It is considered an invariable classic of tea drinking in any aristocratic society. The composition of Richard Lord Gray tea includes, in addition to bergamot, the flavoring additive “lemon” and zest.
  3. Queen's Breakfast. Consists of Kenyan, Indian and Ceylon long tea. It is distinguished by its astringent and delicate aroma.

The new classics are:

  1. Elegant Ginger. Combines fragrant tea leaves from India, exquisite orange and ginger notes.
  2. Five o'clock. Tea from Ceylon, which contains mint flavoring and mint itself. A drink designed to restore vitality and refresh.
  3. King's Tea. The raw materials for its production are brought from different parts of our planet: Sri Lanka, Kenya, Tanzania. The drink is filled with the aroma of lime and mint and contains zest.
  4. Royal Kenya Granulated. It is granular and therefore stands out against the background of Richard loose leaf teas. Black Kenyan granules give a special strength to the drink, which is perfectly complemented by milk.

Green tea

In addition to black, the MAY company also produces Richard green tea - Royal Green. For its production, raw materials originating from China are used. It is packaged, like Richard black tea, in boxes, packs of 25 sachets and 100 bags, and tin cans.

Richard in a tin

Richard in a tin deserves special attention. These amazingly beautiful containers filled with high-quality tea leaves can be used as a gift, which is why the manufacturer has created a separate gift line for its tea products.

In addition to the classic black tea Richard Royal Ceylon and green Royal Green, the MAY company produces the following types of tea leaves in cans:

  1. Richard Royal Love tea. Consists of a large leaf brought from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and flavored with bergamot and vanilla. Packaged in a beautiful tin can, painted with delicate flowers. According to the manufacturer, the sophistication of taste, sophistication of aroma and stunning beauty of packaging are ideal for beautiful ladies.
  2. Royal British Colony. The name speaks for itself: the products are represented by tea from countries that were once colonies of Great Britain. The line includes: Sri Lankan and Kenyan tea, as well as Indian Assam and Darjeeling. Richard Darjeling is distinguished by its astringent taste; this drink has a light nutmeg shade and a delicate floral aroma. The series stands out for its small, beautiful jars decorated with ethnic designs. This line also includes Richard Milk Oolong, the tea leaves for which are grown in China.

Richard in bags

In the world of high speeds, tea bags are especially popular. The MAY company also produces such tea products. Almost all of the types of royal tea listed above (with the exception of granulated Kenyan and some gift teas) can be bought in bags. Another popular drink is Richard Royal Thyme and Rosemary black tea, packaged in a box of 25 sachets.

Prices for such products vary depending on the number of bags and blend. For example, classic Richard Tea 100 bags (Royal Ceylon) costs approximately 300 rubles, and for 25 sachets you will have to pay approximately 80 rubles.

I fell for the picture on the packaging.

I forgot that I read negative reviews of Richard Royal Ceylon tea, because ATB had a discount and it cost only 30 hryvnia))

The scheme worked: oh, discount! - oh, a large leaf! - Yes, this is the “royal” tea from the advertisement, I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time!

And now, I have tea in my hands. On the packaging we are assured that the tea is long leaf tea. Long leaf tea is unconnected tea leaves, that is, individual leaves or parts thereof. Well, yes, there are no questions here, a priori there can be only such tea in a box for 30-40 hryvnia. For whole leaves or twigs from the tops of tea bushes, please go to tea shops for elite varieties.

We look at the picture on the packaging - it looks very decent, the leaves are curled, everything is as it should be. I'm looking forward to a delicious tea party))

We open the box, as usual, there is tea hidden in a foil bag - exactly the same twisted leaves as in the picture, one to one. Not exactly a large leaf, but they look decent. I was alarmed that I did not hear a characteristic smell. More precisely, I didn’t notice the smell at all. This was surprising, because usually even just black tea in a box smells like tea) But there was still hope that something would change when brewing. Alas…

Richard Royal Ceylon tea, review

Richard Royal Ceylon tea, review

The tea is brewed, it looks very beautiful, it looks classic - rich, brown-red. Just real, real English, I would say. Still, elite Chinese teas look a little different when brewed, but that’s beside the point.

In general, it looks normal.

Richard Royal Ceylon tea, review

But again there is no smell at all! How so??? Tea, normal tea, simply has to exude aroma! Or at least smell a little like TEA! As a last resort, use a broom (if the tea is really cheap))) But Richard's royal tea doesn't smell like anything at all!

It wasn’t particularly surprising that there was no taste either. From the word absolutely! It feels like I'm just drinking colored boiling water. I haven't seen this for a long time. Even when I was recently indignant in a review of Ahmad tea, I thought that it couldn’t get any worse. There was at least some taste there. But even Ahmad surpassed Richard.

I usually brew tea in a teapot. Richard also brewed it there, thinking that maybe the tea would steep longer and it would be better. But nothing has changed at all. The tea remains just as empty. Now, when brewing, I add a little Greenfield Spring Melody so that there is at least some taste, although most of all I want to just throw this Richard away(

Results:

“Royal” Richard tea has neither taste nor smell. The color is beautiful. But it feels like you’re just drinking colored boiling water.

But that is not all. The twisted sheets untwisted and turned into THIS

small cut sheets! But now I know that long leaf tea comes in whole sheets and comes in broken or cut sheets. And these cut and broken sheets are called Broken. And this word should be present in the name of the tea. But in this case it is not on the packaging.

Overall, I give it two stars. And I lower the rating because there is no taste, no aroma, no indication that this leaf is Broken, that is, broken.

90-100 rubles a day is my earnings on Irecommend. Screenshots, leading reviews and proof that almost EVERYONE can do this.

The whole truth about REVIEWS.

The famous English tea brand appeared on the shelves of our country only in 2014 and quickly began to conquer the Russian market. Richard tea received a worthy assessment from both experts and buyers, who appreciated the noble taste and aroma of the classic English blend.

Brand history

Back in the 19th century, there was a famous tea company, Richard, which created unique blends for royalty. Moreover, the recipes for the blends were kept strictly secret. Royal tea had a trademark - a golden lion, personifying English aristocracy and luxury.

The manufacturer of Russian Richard is the May company, which produces such tea brands as Lisma, Maisky and Kertez. They decided to name the brand in honor of the famous tea house and King Richard, thereby further emphasizing the nobility of the drink and its classic taste.

Range

The manufacturer has released a wide range of products to satisfy the taste needs of each customer:

  • English classic black.
  • Black tea “New Classic”.
  • Green – Royal green.

The classic line consists of:

  • Royal Ceylon is a large-leaf, selected high-mountain tea with subtle sweet notes.
  • Lord Gray is a golden Ceylon tea leaf with the aroma of bergamot and the addition of lemon zest.
  • Queen's Breakfest is an invigorating, tart blend based on Kenyan, Ceylon and Indian botanical varieties.

The “New Classic” line delights customers with four flavors:

  • Elegant Gingert is an Indian tea with the addition of ginger, vanilla and orange flavoring.
  • Five O`Clock is a refreshing drink based on long tea and English mint.
  • King's Tea No. 1 is a combination of Ceylon and Kenyan teas with the addition of Kaffir lime flavoring and real citrus zest.
  • Royal Kenya – strong Kenyan granular.

Release form

Richard produces drinks in several forms:

  • granulated,
  • small leaf in bags,
  • sachets,
  • in a tin can.

The price of the product mainly depends on the form of release, so the manufacturer has provided the opportunity for consumers with any income to purchase this noble tea.

If you had to choose a tea by name (imagine that you had no more information), Richard would probably be among the favorites - there is so much nobility in this word, the right to leadership.

It’s nice that the producers managed to achieve the royal quality of the product, so Richard tea, which appeared on the Russian market only in 2014 (which by tea standards is not that much), took one of the highest places on it.

Story

Richard's tea is a domestic producer, the company "May". Its brands “Maysky”, “Lisma”, and “Lisma” have long been popular among Russians.

This time she “took aim at our William Shakespeare” (remember the quote from the movie “Beware of the Car”?), or more precisely, at the tea traditions of the great writer’s native country.

The task was set to create a classic blend, like in “good old England,” to repeat the success of the best royal traditions.

A tea company called Richard existed in Great Britain in the 19th century.. It supplied products to the king's court and had a symbol in the form of a lion, which meant it belonged to the world of aristocracy and luxury.

The secret of the blends was kept in the strictest confidence, so no one else was able to combine noble simplicity and royal sophistication in a product like this.

Already in February 2014, the Russian Richard at the Prodexpo exhibition received confirmation that he had coped with a difficult task - tea was recognized as meeting the best British traditions of high-premium class.

The name and design of the product also indicate the preferences that guided the manufacturer when working on the new product.

Initially there were several ideas, various options were worked out in detail. The concept of English classic tea drinking, and in the royal style, won.

However, they decided to modernize the classics by adding new components to the traditional raw materials.

Royal tea Richard: assortment

Where “King Richard” definitely surpassed its British predecessor was in its assortment.

Green and black tea, to which cinnamon, lemon, ginger can be added, and also tea with lime, mint, bergamot... Varieties for every taste.

Let's talk about each of them:

In general, the gift theme for Richard is one of the main ones.. For example, his New Year's collection amazes with its variety and imagination.

On the eve of 2018, the Year of the Dog, manufacturers introduced to the market a whole collection of teas depicting four-legged pets (The Royal Dogs), which are most loved in the English royal family.

Buyers in Russia were able to purchase a balloon package with dogs: pug, Yorkshire terrier, corgi-pembroke and spaniel.

Royal NY Ball Collection consists of three balls that can be hung on the Christmas tree. The technique of painting on porcelain is used in their design.

The contents are also festive, matching the form: with orange and cinnamon, thyme and rosemary. The tea raw materials are of very high quality, large-leaf.

Richard's specialists also produce such varieties of tea as “Christmas Clocks” (the packaging resembles a watch, pocket or mantelpiece) and in the shape of a heart (for example, Richard Royal black, a blend of large-leaf Ceylon tea, bergamot, vanilla, zest and cornflower petals).

In each of its teas, the manufacturer manages to provide the main thing - a rich, rich taste of the drink and a refined, delicate aroma. Some varieties are quite tart, but this only adds a peculiar piquancy to them.

Tea connoisseurs advise brewing the drink at the exact strength you prefer. If you rely on the fact that you will dilute it with water, this means a deterioration in the “bouquet” - the drink may lose those pleasant notes that it originally possessed.

Release form

All types of packaging that are in demand in the tea market today are available for sale. Richard joins the retail chain:

The packaging for all these products was made by the Svoe Mnenie agency.

The description of the design elements confirms the commitment to the classics: on a noble blue background there is a golden lion, a coat of arms, and the seal of the royal titestor (a drink taster who determined the type and quality of tea that was intended for a high-ranking person).

Green tea packaging is green, which helps the buyer quickly navigate when choosing a product.
