Mannik with sour cream

For me, manna is the taste of childhood, so I will share with you the classic recipe without flour, which I inherited from my mother, but I still made a couple of changes on my own :)

This is a versatile cake that is great plain or with toppings, and can also be used as a base for a cake.
The recipe is so simple that even a child can handle it - it was when I first prepared it as a child. If you have never tried manna, be sure to fix that!

So, a step-by-step recipe for manna with sour cream:

Break three eggs into a deep bowl, add a pinch of salt, sugar and vanilla sugar, if you add it. The third egg in the photo is hidden behind sugar :)

2

Mix with a fork or whisk; there is no need to beat too much, so I never use a mixer in this recipe. However, if you really want to, you can beat it at low speed :)

3

Now let's talk about sour cream.
You can take sour cream of any fat content that you have on hand, depending on this the amount of semolina will vary slightly.

The fattier the sour cream, the less semolina you will need and, accordingly, the volume.

You can use sour cream that is not fresh, even if it has been a little stale in the refrigerator 😉

After all, sometimes each of us probably forgets about some product, and the question arises of what to do. And here is the answer, what to cook from expired sour cream.

But if you never have anything spoiled or if you immediately throw away a spoiled product, you haven’t read this 😉

Add sour cream and mix.

Some people soak semolina in sour cream or other fermented milk product, but personally I don’t see any need for this: even without these procedures, the pie turns out just fine.

4

Mix semolina with baking powder, add to the dough and mix again.

If you use soda, add it at the end: quench 1/2 teaspoon of soda, pour into the dough, mix quickly and immediately put in the oven.

5

And the most important thing: how much semolina should I add? First, add 200 grams (about one glass), mix and look at the consistency of the dough.

The dough should be quite thick, about like pancakes. If it turns out liquid, then add semolina a tablespoon at a time, achieving the desired thickness.

6

Pour the finished dough into any mold (mine is 28cm), greased with butter and/or lined with baking paper.

Cover the pan with foil, and the cake will not burn even in the most “original” oven 😉

After 30 minutes, pierce the cake in the middle with a wooden skewer or toothpick: if the skewer is dry, the manna is ready!
If there is dough left on the skewer, leave for another five minutes, then repeat the procedure.

7

I love manna with condensed milk - it seems to me that they are ideally made for each other :)
You can pour it on top or coat it inside, or you can do both.

Manna goes well with jam and jam, any berries and some fruits, such as bananas.

Tell us in the comments, what do you like to serve manna with?

I can’t wait to enjoy my favorite taste since childhood, so I’m going to drink tea and wish you bon appetit!

  4. Add vanillin. Mix.

  1. Pour the eggs into a deep bowl and mix them a little.

Pour in the semolina and stir the mixture lightly; here you can use a blender.

Lay out the berries and baking soda, carefully mix the ingredients into the dough.

Carefully coat the pie pan with sunflower oil.

Pour the dough into it and carefully level the surface with a spatula.

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees and bake the product for about 15-20 minutes.

Pie “Mannik” with sour cream – video

The video we offer for viewing contains all the secrets of baking a surprisingly tender and delicate semolina pie with sour cream.

How can you decorate such a pie?

In itself, the product turns out to be very attractive and fragrant, so it’s most likely not worth worrying about additional decoration. However, if you wish, you can decorate your baked goods in several simple ways to make them even more appetizing in appearance.

  • Gently brush the surface of the pie with condensed milk (can be boiled) and place confectionery powder on it - it is sold in any stores and has the form of stars, hearts or other figures. Children really like these decorations; they stimulate the appetite very well.
  • You can also coat the pie with honey or sweet syrup, and then put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours so that the decoration hardens.
  • A simple sour cream consisting of two parts sour cream whipped with a part of powdered sugar will also make your baked goods look just perfect.

How can you diversify a standard recipe?

I have never heard of a housewife who didn’t like experimenting with baking: we constantly add other ingredients to the classic recipe in order to more vividly express the taste of the product. I suggest you familiarize yourself with some of my developments below.

  • Finely chopped candied fruits, marmalade, crushed nuts or steamed raisins add indescribable beauty and interesting taste to any manna. Add these ingredients in small quantities (no more than a teaspoon) at the final stage of kneading the dough.
  • If you don’t have berries, it doesn’t matter - the pie can be made without any filler at all. Also, instead of berries, raisins or prunes, dried apricots and dates are perfect.
  • Many people prepare delicious manna with sour cream without adding eggs, which can be replaced with one glass of kefir. This product will be more crumbly and fragrant, but will require more baking time.

Every housewife should learn how to cook such airy, tender, very simple pastries. It takes a minimum of ingredients and time to prepare a sweet dish, and you can please your family with a fragrant, fluffy pie.

Baking a pie at home is very simple; all you need is chicken eggs, semolina, low-fat fermented milk product, flour and baking powder. However, some recipes suggest preparing the dessert without flour or eggs. The only nuance in making a pie is the need to pre-soak the semolina for several hours, otherwise it will crunch on your teeth. Cooking manna with sour cream is possible using an oven or a slow cooker.

Mannik in a slow cooker

Like sour cream or manna biscuit, you can prepare it using a modern kitchen appliance. Semolina pie is not capricious, so it always rises well. Semolina pie in the oven

The average baking temperature for the dessert is 190 degrees, and the process of cooking it in the oven takes about half an hour. Since the manna dough is liquid, it is important to pre-oil the mold and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. While baking a dish in the oven, do not open the oven door, otherwise the cake may fall. To give the dessert a beautiful look, it is sprinkled with chocolate chips, powdered sugar or cocoa. Some housewives make manna with sour cream in the oven with jam, jam, rum, condensed milk, then the baked goods turn out even tastier and more aromatic.

Mannik with sour cream is the case when you want something sweet, but you are too lazy to tinker with masterly baking or simply have no time, mannik with sour cream will come to the rescue. Why sour cream? In principle, manna can be baked using any fermented milk product, from kefir and yogurt (natural, of course) to yogurt and sour cream. But it is with sour cream that the manna turns out especially crumbly.

There are no special tricks in preparing manna with sour cream. Just the ingredients - semolina, sour cream, a couple of eggs and a handful of flour with baking powder, that's all it takes. But, like any other recipe, the manna recipe can be modified by increasing or decreasing the amount of certain ingredients, adding all kinds of products that turn an ordinary pie into a work of culinary art. Manna with sour cream can be prepared without flour or without eggs, thereby reducing its calorie content (although, in truth, you should not get carried away with this dessert beyond measure). If you put nuts, dried fruits or berries in the dough for manna, you will get healthy and tasty pastries that you are not ashamed to offer to guests.

The principle of preparing manna with sour cream is the same. The only difference between some recipes is the time for soaking the semolina before baking. Some housewives like the crunch of the grains in the finished baked goods, and they knead the dough immediately before baking. Others do not accept this - and keep the semolina in sour cream for several hours, and sometimes soak the semolina overnight. Here, as they say, it’s a matter of taste. “Culinary Eden” is pleased to invite you to bake manna with sour cream according to one of the proposed recipes.

They can be decorated with glaze made from sugar and egg white or cocoa cooked with cream. To any recipe for manna with sour cream, you can add raisins, dried apricots, candied fruits, coconut flakes (white, without dyes), berries, fruit slices, nuts, poppy seeds - all these additives will only improve the taste. In addition, the manna can be cooled, cut lengthwise using a thread into 2-3 cakes and layered with any cream, jam or jam that suits your taste. You'll get a cake!
