Salt dough recipe for modeling. Let's sculpt together with the kids! Salt dough - dough recipe and how to work with it. Possible problems and their solutions

    The recipe is something like this: 200 grams of flour (1 cup), 200 grams of salt (0.5 cups), 125 ml of water. Salt is heavier than flour, so they are the same in weight, and in terms of volume, salt takes up half as much space as flour. For thin and embossed figures, you can add a tablespoon of starch and the same amount of PVA glue.

    Play dough can be prepared uncolored. Make figures out of it, dry them in the oven over low heat and then paint them with any colors, and cover them with colorless nail polish. Only the last procedure should be performed by adults so that children do not breathe in solvent vapors.

    To prepare the dough, you need to take 1 cup of extra salt (or grind stone salt in a mortar first). Stir in 1 cup flour. Add 2/3 cup water. To make the dough pliable, add one or two tablespoons of refined vegetable oil. Knead until the dough begins to stick to your hands. Then, you need to cover the bowl with the dough with film and put it in the refrigerator for an hour. In the cold it will reach and will be plastic. It's even better to work with this dough the next day.

    You need flour, salt, utensils that you don’t mind, for colored gouache dough, the right color. Mix all the ingredients. Mix flour and salt, add water and a little cream, mix everything. Add water as needed.

    The main ingredients of salt dough are salt + flour. We take them in a ratio of approximately 1:2 (a cup of salt to two cups of flour). Then you need to add water and knead a stiff dough.

    It is imperative to take fine salt, Extra grade. If the salt is large, crystalline, then it will have to be ground in a coffee grinder, otherwise the texture will be rough. You can take cheap flour, and it definitely contains a lot of gluten. If there is not enough wheat flour, you can add a little rye flour, but in a small amount, less than half of the wheat flour.

    Clean, cold water is used for mixing.

    For the strength of the future product, you can add wallpaper glue (one tablespoon).

    The plasticity of the salt dough will be increased by starch, also added in the amount of one or two spoons. But if you put a lot of starch, the craft can become fragile. Also, body or hand cream and a spoonful of vegetable oil will increase plasticity.

    To make salty colored dough, you can use chemical or natural materials. Cocoa, instant coffee, paprika, cinnamon or curry powder will give the salted dough a delicate color shade and a slight pleasant smell. For crafts in bright colors, gouache and food coloring, for example, for eggs, are also used.

    The finished salt dough is stored in the refrigerator. After cooling, the dough becomes slightly more elastic.

    For a good dough, you need to prepare fine extra salt and mix it with the same amount of flour. Then gradually pour water into the resulting mass and mix thoroughly all the time. The dough should be dense, but tender to the touch, and should not stick to your hands (to do this, we knead it thoroughly and mix it). If you want to get a colored dough, you can add food coloring to the water or use a natural product (juice of carrots, beets, spinach, etc.

    Store the finished dough in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or on a plate covered with paper. But do not forget that during storage it dries out a little.

    Let's make our own SALT PLAYER DOUGH!

    We need one glass of salt (it’s better to take fine salt), into which we add water (about 3/4 glass) and mix. Next, add flour (2 cups). The dough should be plastic and pleasant to the touch. Mix well! And then we just put the dough in a bag so that it doesn’t dry out. If there is any dough left after work, store it in the refrigerator. It is stored for two days.

    My daughter and I go to Montessori classes and she happily sculpts with sol dough, the recipe for which the teachers generously shared with us. Here he is:

    I haven’t gotten around to making it at home yet (I want to make it any day now), but from experience in classes I can say that this is simply an incomparable dough! It doesn’t stick to your hands, it’s easy to sculpt with, and - most importantly - it’s simply airy, just somehow weightless! When cooking, if desired, you can also add one tablespoon of vegetable oil and citric acid to the dough.

    Salt dough is made from flour, salt and water. To color the dough, add a little gouache (you don’t need a lot of gouache, otherwise it will stain your hands too much). The consistency should be approximately like that of dumpling dough; it should turn into one solid lump.

    Here are video tips on how to properly make salt dough for crafts.

    Each homemaker has her own recipe for salt dough, sometimes something goes wrong and you have to make your own adjustments :). Through trial and error I got this dough:

    • 1 cup flour
    • only fine salt half a glass
    • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, so the dough sticks better from your hands and from the surface, just remember that in this case you need to sculpt on a board or special oilcloth. And wash your hands, otherwise there will be oil stains not only on clothes, but also on furniture :)
    • water 6 tbsp

    If you decide to use food coloring, first dilute it in water. In our case, 6 tbsp. water.

    I knead the dough in the bread machine. There the order is as follows: water, oil, flour, salt. Next, I press the button to knead the dough and that’s it, I go answer questions from my favorite BV site :)

    Salt dough is a wonderful material for modeling. Especially when it comes to small children. After all, such material is completely safe. And it is made quite easily and simply. For it we will need:

    1. Flour in the amount of 2 cups
    2. Salt in the amount of 2 cups
    3. Water - half a glass
    4. Sunflower oil - a tablespoon. If desired, you can use a hand cream with a greasy consistency.

    All these ingredients will need to be mixed thoroughly, and the resulting dough should be placed in the refrigerator for forty minutes. You can start sculpting. Sometimes pieces of dough remain; you don’t have to throw it away, but leave it until next time. To store, place the dough in a jar and place in the refrigerator. For a few more days you can sculpt figures from it.

Modeling classes develop hand strength and fine motor skills of the fingers. It is useful to sculpt not only for children, but also for adults, because there are many nerve endings at the fingertips, the massage of which while working with plastic material leads to good health. You can sculpt not only from plasticine and clay, but also from salt dough. It is made simply and quickly, no special financial investments are required, but crafts made from such dough are stored for a long time, they can be painted and varnished.

Knowing the recipe for salted modeling dough, you can create many interesting crafts. These include Christmas tree decorations for the New Year, toy products for playing shop or playing “mother and daughter”. Decorative interior decorations, pictures, figurines look beautiful. You can make an original pendant for a girl’s neck or a pendant for a bag.

After all, you can mold any figure from salt dough. It could be a fairy-tale character, a favorite cartoon character, a flower or a star, a car or a voluminous funny cat. In this article we will look at several recipes on how to create salt dough, how to store and bake it at home.

The easiest recipe for salted play dough

This is a classic version of preparing this dough. In order to do everything correctly, you need to prepare the following ingredients:

  • a glass of white wheat flour;
  • the same amount of fine salt, “Extra” type;
  • half a glass of cool water.

First, mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then gradually add the liquid in small portions. You need to stir constantly so that the dough does not form lumps and is homogeneous. At the end of cooking, the dough should be smooth and dense, but not hard.

Be sure to check the integrity of the skin on your hands, as salt greatly irritates the skin, which will cause pain and severe itching. Then rinse your hands with clean water and apply oil or hand cream.

Glycerin based dough

This recipe for salted modeling dough is suitable for those craftsmen who want to give their crafts a natural shine, without the use of acrylic varnish. Glycerin, which is part of the ingredients for preparing this type of dough, ensures that the finished products will have a glossy surface even without varnish.

You will need to prepare the following components:

  • half a liter of boiling water;
  • two glasses of wheat flour;
  • half a teaspoon of liquid glycerin;
  • 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil;
  • half a glass of salt;
  • 2 tbsp. l. cream of tartar;
  • food coloring of any required color.

In a large container, mix salt and flour, add vegetable oil and cream of tartar. Place a pan of water on the fire. After it boils, add the resulting mass to it and boil until smooth. After a while, glycerin and food coloring are added.

When the salted dough is ready, you need to cool it and knead it with your hands until it sticks to your palms. If there is not enough flour, you need to add a little while kneading.

Mixture with PVA glue

As you already understand from the title of this section, we will talk about a recipe for salted modeling dough with the addition of PVA glue. Have to take:

  • two glasses of white flour;
  • half as much salt, it is advisable to take only fine “Extra” salt;
  • lukewarm water - half a cup;
  • 50 ml of white thick PVA glue.

First, as usual, mix the dry ingredients - flour and salt. Then warm water is poured in and the composition is thoroughly mixed. Some people use a blender to achieve smoothness faster, but it doesn't really matter. You can mix the mixture perfectly with your hands. When the dough has the desired consistency, add PVA glue to the bowl and knead again.

After obtaining a beautiful, homogeneous dough, you need to roll an even and smooth ball, wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for a while.

Salted play dough with starch

Let's consider another option for preparing dough for making crafts, which uses starch. The composition is as follows:

  • one tablespoon of starch;
  • the remaining proportions of salted play dough are equal: one glass each of water, flour and fine salt.

First you need to dissolve the starch in half a portion of water. There should be no lumps, the powder dissolves completely, resulting in a homogeneous white liquid. The rest of the water is poured into the pan and brought to a boil. Then the starch liquid is slowly poured in and with constant stirring we achieve a thick jelly.

Mix salt and flour in a large bowl, then add cooled jelly in small portions, stirring constantly. The dough should not be too soft, otherwise the crafts will not hold the required shape and will fall apart.

The salted dough should be tight enough so that it can be, for example, rolled out with a rolling pin and squeezed out with molds, or molded into a sculpture so that it has the correct outline.

Favorite recipe for children

This salted play dough at home is created with additional ingredients that allow products made from it to glow in the dark. Let's look at the composition of such a test:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil;
  • two glasses of flour (wheat);
  • the same amount of warm water;
  • 100 grams of fine salt;
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar;
  • 2 capsules or tablets of vitamin E.

First, a dry mixture of flour, salt, and cream of tartar is mixed. A tablet crushed into a fine powder is also added there. After thorough mixing, add water and vegetable oil. But this is not the whole cooking process. The resulting homogeneous mass must be put on fire and simmered over low heat until the mixture begins to stick; the consistency should resemble ordinary plasticine.

Recipe for making three-dimensional sculptures

If you make salted play dough according to the recipe described below, it will be very strong and dense. Any figures will keep their shape well, will not deform when drying and will not spread. It's easy to do. Have to take:

  • 200 grams of wheat flour;
  • fine salt - twice as much - 400 grams;
  • 300 grams of ice water.

Unlike other recipes, this one first dissolves the salt in cold water. Only after complete dissolution should you add flour in small portions. When the dough has acquired a thick consistency, knead it into a dense and tight dough with your hands.

Dough storage

Now you know how to knead salted dough for modeling. It's easy and pretty quick. This dough is easy to work with; it is quite elastic. It can be rolled out with a rolling pin, making flat shapes that are cut out with a knife and squeezed out with cookie cutters.

If you didn’t use all the dough at once or made a large portion, then you still need to figure out how to store salted play dough. You need to make a round ball from the remainder and put it in a whole plastic bag, which is tied with a tight knot. You need to store the dough in the refrigerator: in the door or on the top shelf. The temperature there is a little warmer than in its other departments.

Before using it again, you need to take the dough out first so that it warms up and becomes soft and pliable again. In this way, you can store the finished salt dough for up to 1-1.5 months.

Drying crafts

If you are not just sculpting for fun with children, but want the products to last for a long time, then after creating the figures you need to dry them. This process is performed in several ways:

  • in the oven;
  • on the radiator;
  • near the fireplace;
  • in hot weather - on the windowsill or on the balcony.

If the crafts are thin, they can dry naturally in a warm place. This is in the heat - on a sunny balcony or windowsill. If the figure is voluminous, you can dry it first naturally and finish drying it in the oven.

In winter, you can place thin parts on the radiator on fabric or foil. If you use a fireplace at home, you can place the products at a close distance from it on a table or even on the floor on a napkin.

If you decide to use an oven, then you need to follow several useful recommendations:

  • There is no need to preheat the oven in advance; the temperature rises gradually so that the products do not crack or burn.
  • It is better to dry on dark baking sheets; according to the experience of many craftsmen, drying there occurs at a faster pace, since the dark surface retains heat better.
  • Work is carried out with the door open.
  • The duration of drying of products depends on the thickness. If the dough is up to 2 cm, it will take three hours to dry. The first - at a temperature of 75 °C, the next - 100 °C, the last - 150 °C. If the parts are thicker than 2 cm, then it will take longer to stay in the oven: 2 hours - at 50 °C, 3 hours - at 75 °C and the last 2 hours - at 100 °C.

Don't forget to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't swell or burn. The process is lengthy, but after proper drying, the parts become strong and can last for a long time.

Dough coloring

If you want to make colored salted play dough, use liquid food coloring. Add a couple of drops from the bottle to the finished dough and knead thoroughly until smooth. This is convenient, but with this method the dough turns out pastel colors. You can’t make bright, saturated colors this way, unless you pour out a whole bottle of dye, and this is costly in terms of money.

It is much cheaper to use gouache to color the dough. You need to take a little paint on a spoon and put it in a container with dough, then mix everything thoroughly. The color is bright and saturated.

The best salt dough recipes for making crafts

If you're wondering how to make play dough, remember what ingredients you need:

  1. Regular wheat flour only. Pancake, almond, and with additional additives will not work.
  2. Extra salt is fine. Large grains of salt and inclusions will give the product an untidy appearance.
  3. Use cold water: it is better if it is completely ice-cold.
  4. Potato starch will provide plasticity to the dough.
  5. The strength of the finished material is higher if it is prepared using PVA glue diluted in water.

The quality of the material will be better if it is kneaded intensively by hand. The uniformity of the structure prevents the dough from crumbling or crumbling. If dyes were added, the color should be distributed evenly throughout the entire piece of dough, without inclusions or spots. The paint is added when mixing the material into water or the finished salted craft is painted. When the dough is ready, wrap it in a plastic bag and store it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. The finished product can be used within a month if stored refrigerated.

From coarse salt

A classic way to make salt dough. You will get a lot of this material, enough for large and small crafts, and there will be some left over. If you don't need a lot of dough, reduce the proportions of the ingredients. You will need:

  • coarse salt – 300 g;
  • wheat flour – 300 g;
  • water – 1 faceted glass (200 ml).

How to knead salt dough:

  1. Salt spills out. Most of the water, but not all at once, is poured into a large container.
  2. After the salt has completely dissolved, the sifted flour is poured into the liquid in portions, and a lump of dough is kneaded. Continue working with the finished lump on the work surface.
  3. If the material is not too pliable, add water; if it is too soft, add salt and flour in proportions according to the recipe.

How to knead from flour, water and salt

This recipe is suitable for creating three-dimensional figures. The material is very strong, holds the shape of the finished products, making them durable, despite their large size. To prepare play dough from flour and salt you need:

  • plain flour (without additives) – 200 g;
  • salt – 400 g;
  • water – 1.5 faceted glasses.

Recipe step by step:

  1. Dissolve salt in ice water. There should be no grains left.
  2. Little by little add flour previously sifted through a strainer.
  3. Knead elastic dough. The work intensity is very high, the material is rough, and mixing takes a long time.
  4. Cover the bowl with the dough with a towel and refrigerate for several hours. After a while, take it out and sculpt the figures.

How to make from PVA glue

There is an option with the introduction of PVA glue. To prepare the dough use:

  • flour – 2 cups;
  • fine salt “Extra” – 1 glass;
  • warm water – 125 ml;
  • PVA glue – 50 ml.

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour and salt, pour in warm water.
  2. Using a blender or mixer, mix the ingredients.
  3. Add glue to the finished mixture and knead well with your hands.
  4. Roll into a smooth ball, place in a bag and place in the refrigerator.

How to make from starch

To prepare salt dough you need the following ingredients:

  • potato starch - 1 tbsp. l.;
  • water – 1 glass;
  • flour – 1 glass;
  • salt – 1 glass.

Step by step process:

  1. Prepare starch jelly: a tablespoon of starch is dissolved in half a glass of cold liquid. Avoid forming lumps.
  2. Bring another half a glass of water to a boil in a saucepan, pour starch jelly into the boiling water in a thin stream.
  3. Stir constantly until thick consistency.
  4. In a deep bowl, mix salt and regular flour.
  5. Pour the jelly into the dry mixture in portions, knead, avoiding excessive softness of the dough.

How to dry salt dough at home

Have you prepared the dough and sculpted the figures? It's time to dry them well! There are a couple of ways:

  1. Open air. Drying outside or in a room where fresh air flows regularly is the most economical option. It would be better to dry it in the sun. The duration of the procedure depends on the thickness of the product. The color of the craft will not change after it hardens.
  2. Oven. Immediately dry the crafts in the fresh air for a couple of days, then heat the oven to 50 degrees. Place the figures on a baking sheet covered with paper and dry, increasing the temperature (maximum 140 degrees). Drying lasts about 3 hours at 50 degrees, and half an hour at 140. Do not try to set the temperature to maximum right away, otherwise the products will crack.

If there are cracks on the figures, you can paint them with a mixture of PVA glue and regular flour using a thin brush, filling the space. You can easily find out how dry the product is by tapping it. A dull sound comes from a damp figurine after knocking, but a ringing sound indicates the readiness of work. If the craft is damp, extend drying in the oven.

You will need

  • - one glass of salt;
  • - two glasses of flour (you can take any premium flour);
  • - one glass of cool water;
  • - 1/2 teaspoon of any vegetable oil (with oil the mass becomes more elastic).

Instructions

So, first of all, you need to prepare all the components and put them in front of you (the thing is, everything will have to be done quickly, the mass dries out quickly, which can negatively affect the quality of the future modeling dough). Next, you need to mix salt in a deep bowl (it’s best to use fine “Extra” salt or sift regular stone salt through a metal sieve) and 1.5 cups of flour, add water to them and mix well. You need to stir for a long time so that there are no lumps.

The next step is kneading the dough. To do this, you need to pour the remaining flour onto the work surface (it is better to use a special board), place the dough on it and gently knead the dough for several minutes until smooth (there should be no unused flour left). Ultimately, the mass should be elastic, not stick to your hands, and the consistency should resemble soft plasticine.

After the dough is ready, you need to wrap it in film (you can also put it in a regular plastic bag) and leave to lie at room temperature for 15-20 minutes (during this time the mass will finally reach).

After the time has passed, knead the dough thoroughly in your hands again, after which you can begin to get creative and create various figures, paintings, magnets, etc. from the resulting modeling mass.
While sculpting, keep the lump of dough in a closed container and pinch off pieces as needed.

note

The salt dough can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than two days. It can be stored in the freezer several times longer (15-20 days). During this time it will not lose its properties.

Helpful advice

It is best to make the dough in a cool room, so there will be no problems with it drying out.

Recently, modeling from salt dough using the plasticine principle has become increasingly popular. Stores sell special bright plasticine that looks like a spongy mass. However, it is not that cheap, but it dries out quite quickly. For homework or children's crafts, you can also use salted dough, which is in no way inferior to store-bought material.

For 1 glass of fine salt, take 2 tbsp. flour, about 125 ml of water depending on the quality of flour, flavorings - vanillin, cinnamon, etc., 1-2 tbsp. rich cream or vegetable oil.

If after kneading the dough turns out to be too soft or tight, gradually add the necessary ingredients, water or a mixture of salt and flour, kneading the dough thoroughly.

Before modeling, it is advisable to place the dough in the refrigerator in a plastic bag for 2-3 hours. The dough itself can be colored to make it even more attractive. There are two ways to color: add dyes to the dough before modeling or paint the product after drying.

The dough is dried on a radiator or in the oven at a temperature not exceeding 800C. If the dough is used simply for play, like, it can be stored in the refrigerator in a bag without access to air.

How to color salt dough

Before making salt dough, it is advisable to decide how you will color it in order to prepare everything you need. Coloring can be done using gouache or acrylic paints.

Part of the dough remains white, and part is divided into portions for coloring. The white dough is left to adjust the colors to softer shades.

Multi-colored dough should be stored in different bags or boxes to prevent colors from mixing.

Gold or silver shades can be made using paint or adding glitter gel.

It is important to remember that the color of the dough will lighten slightly as it dries.

Salt dough is an environmentally friendly and safe material for creativity, modeling from which is popular not only among children, but also among adults. Using a plastic mass, the main components of which are flour, salt and water, you can create a wide variety of crafts: prints of children's hands and feet, panels and three-dimensional paintings, flowers and all kinds of figures. Preparing salt dough takes very little time and requires a minimum of available materials.

Instructions

The main advantages over other materials for modeling are:
1) Material for creativity does not require financial investments, because most often the components necessary for its preparation are at hand.
2) Salt dough is easily washed off your hands and does not stain clothes or the surface used for modeling.
3) The mass does not stick to your hands during use, holds its shape perfectly and has high density.
4) You can dry the molded figures both in the open air and in the oven.
5) Both food coloring and standard coloring materials (gouache, acrylic paints, watercolors, etc.) can be used as a means for coloring crafts.
6) Coating finished products with varnish significantly increases the length of time they retain their original attractiveness.

It is better to take the most ordinary flour for salt dough without all kinds of additives and impurities. For example, flour that is labeled “for pizza,” “pancake,” or “for pancakes” is completely unsuitable for preparing the material. Crafts made from such products can rise well when dried, and then even crack. Avoid rye flour as well - the dough from it will certainly turn out hard and inelastic, and it will be very difficult to sculpt from it.

Use regular fine table salt for the dough. Iodized and sea salt are not suitable - their large grains will not dissolve, and the dough will turn out to be uneven and speckled. As for water, it is better to use cold water, and you should not pour salt and flour with the entire volume of liquid at once; it is better to add water a little at a time and immediately knead the dough thoroughly.

To provide the modeling mass with certain properties during the preparation of salt dough, you can also use additional components. So, dry wallpaper glue will make future ones more durable, hand cream and vegetable oil will give the material plasticity, and food coloring will color the mass in the desired color.

Classic salt dough with a minimum amount of ingredients is ideal. To prepare it, combine half a glass of fine salt and a slightly smaller amount of water at room temperature in a deep bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly and set it aside for 25 minutes to infuse.

Pour half a glass of flour into the saline solution, stir the mixture thoroughly with a fork, knife or whisk. Try to immediately break up any lumps that arise to obtain an elastic, homogeneous mass. If the dough turns out runny, add more flour. Make sure that the mass does not crumble or fall apart; knead it with your hands until it turns into a stiff dough. Check the readiness of the material with your finger. Leave its trace in the mass, and if the imprint “does not float” but holds its shape, the salt dough is ready for modeling.

To prepare a material that is more delicate in texture, different from traditional salted dough and has a lower density, you will need 2 cups of water, 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, as well as 1 tablespoon each of vegetable oil and citric acid. Such a mass does not stick to your hands at all, is easy to process and does not require much effort when forming various figures, which is why it is considered an ideal material for children's creativity.

To prepare the choux pastry, pour the water into a small saucepan and heat it without bringing it to a boil. Add vegetable oil to the liquid. Combine the dry ingredients in a deep bowl, mix well and gradually add hot water, stirring the mixture periodically with a fork or whisk. At first, the dough will seem very liquid to you, but over time the flour will brew and the mass will become denser. Knead the material until it turns into an elastic, viscous dough, ideal for forming a wide variety of figures.

If you add food coloring in powder, liquid or tablet form to the salt dough at the stage of mixing the ingredients, you can immediately obtain modeling material of a certain shade. To prepare colored salt dough, in a deep cup, combine 300 g of flour, 300 g of salt and 200 ml of water, knead a thick dough that does not stick to your hands.

Divide the mass into several parts, each of which will later acquire a certain shade. Make a small depression in each piece with your finger, add a few drops of water and dye into the hole, wait until the mixture is absorbed and knead the dough again. If the color mixture dries out, add a small amount of vegetable oil to it. Carry out the same procedure with all the remaining pieces. Place the colored material in plastic bags and put it in the refrigerator for several hours.

The next integral step in creating salt dough figurines is drying them in the oven, during which several important recommendations should be taken into account:
- the approximate time for drying products in an electric cabinet at temperatures of 75 and 100°C is an hour, at a temperature of 120°C - 45 minutes, at a temperature of 150°C - half an hour (in a gas oven this process will take 2 times longer);
- for drying items decorated with beads, rhinestones and other decorative elements, set the temperature not exceeding 120°C;
- periodically turn the crafts over to achieve maximum uniform drying;
- To prevent the figures from sticking to the baking sheet, place food foil on it.

Greetings my beloved readers and blog guests!! Once upon a time in the distant past I worked as a teacher in a kindergarten, the work was very interesting, but poorly paid... But today we will not talk about that!! It’s just that anyone who has worked in this system knows that all the materials we use in creative work with children must be environmentally friendly or certified. Therefore, homemade tools come to the aid of purchased stationery. And the simplest means for development is salt dough.

Salt dough has been familiar since ancient times and is still popular in our time, because it is very easy to make, and it is a pleasure to sculpt from such a soft material. And what kind of crafts you get!! Just a sight for sore eyes!! I haven’t worked in the garden for a long time, but at home with my baby we often do modeling, and what was my surprise that not everyone knows how to prepare the dough and what can be obtained from it. That's why I decided to write an article on this topic.

And for variety, you and your kids can make New Year’s crafts from scrap materials and ideas.

First of all, we need to understand the manufacturing process of our safe material. In fact, there are not so many recipes, but I will introduce you to a method that has been proven over the years.

We will need:

  • Medium-sized salt - 1 tbsp;
  • Flour - 1 tbsp;
  • Water -125 ml;
  • Vegetable oil - 5 tablespoons.

Manufacturing process:

Take a deep container and mix salt and flour in it. Next, pour in a small amount of water and vegetable oil. Mix well and refrigerate for 2 hours. The play dough is ready. You can leave it this color, and after completing the work, paint it in the desired color. Or you can immediately add natural or synthetic dyes: choose gouache or vegetable juice (carrots, beets), you can also use cocoa.

On a note!! To sculpt thin figures, add glue to the dough. And remember that when drying our mass loses color, so add more dye.

Step-by-step instructions for making dough crafts for beginners

Now that you know how to prepare material for creativity, it’s time to begin the sculpting process itself. Let's start with the simplest. I will show you step by step how you can easily and quickly make a beautiful thing. We will sculpt a cute bear.

We will need:

  • Flour;
  • Salt;
  • Water;
  • Cup;
  • Acrylic paints or gouache;
  • Brush.

Manufacturing process:

1. First, knead the dough: mix half a glass of flour and half a glass of salt, add a little water and mix everything well. Next, wait 2 hours, during which time the dough sits in the refrigerator.

2. Now we start sculpting the figure: we make one medium-sized ball for the head, a larger one for the body and 7 smaller ovals for the paws, ears and nose. We connect everything together. Then we put the product in the oven and dry it for an hour. After drying, take out the craft and cool it.

Advice!! Cover the finished souvenir with varnish. This will make the craft brighter and more practical!!

Thus, the step-by-step instructions for sculpting products from salt dough are as follows:

  • knead the dough;
  • we sculpt the necessary elements and connect them together;
  • dry the work in the oven;
  • paint and wait for it to dry.

And remember that the main sculpting techniques are balls and sausages. 😉

How to make a souvenir from salt dough with your own hands

As you understand, this process is very exciting, and not only children, but also adults enjoy making crafts. Therefore, if you try and use your imagination, you can make an excellent gift or decoration element.

And for the coming New Year, I suggest you make a craft in the shape of a dachshund dog, it will be very symbolic.

We will need:

  • Salt dough is universal;
  • Cardboard, pencil, scissors;
  • Paints and brush;
  • A piece of rope;
  • Clear nail polish;
  • Toothpick;
  • Foam sponge;
  • Glue.

Manufacturing process:

1. Print out a drawing of a dachshund or draw it yourself. Transfer to cardboard and cut out the image along the outline.

2. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 5 mm and attach a pattern, cut out the outline of a dachshund along it. Remove the trimmings.

3. Now make two balls and form them into oblong dog eyes. Glue them on a drop of water to the head. To remove unevenness in the workpiece, wet all your fingers with water and smooth them along the contour.

5. To add volume, roll the dough into an oval, glue it onto the ear and smooth the joint with a wet finger.

6. Also add volume to the back and ponytail.

7. Use a toothpick to make dents around the perimeter of the figure.

8. Dry the workpiece in a warm oven. The dry product must be painted with black paint, where the dents are.

9. When the black paint has dried, take yellow paint on a foam sponge and paint the entire body, leaving the dents black.

10. Draw eyes on the dried dachshund and make any inscription.

11. Glue a string to the glue on the back side.

12. Cover the product with clear varnish and let it dry.

I suggest you, together with your daughters and sons, make this funny hedgehog, look for photo instructions further.

We will need:

  • Salty dough;
  • Scissors;
  • Beads
  • Paints.

Manufacturing process:

1. Make a drop-shaped piece from a piece of dough.

2. Make eyes and a nose from beads.

3. Now we will make needles, for this we take nail scissors and make small cuts, lifting them up a little.

4. We perform the next row in a checkerboard pattern and so on until the entire back is covered in needles.

5. Dry the finished toy in the oven. We color the hedgehog at will.

It’s also very easy to make a bird and decorate it with bean seeds; it’s not only easy, but also useful for developing children’s fine motor skills. Watch the video of how this craft is made:
