Recipe: Whey Pie - Airy Chocolate Sponge Cake. Recipe: Whey cake - Airy chocolate sponge cake Whey cakes in a frying pan

Zebra pie is essentially a sponge cake and can be not only a delicious self-sufficient dessert, but also the basis for cakes and pastries.

Charming stripes imitating the coloring of a zebra are layers of two types of dough. They can be made more obvious or very subtle, it all depends on how much white and chocolate dough is poured alternately.

There are several options for the pie, I suggest making “Zebra” based on whey. This is a great way to use up the ingredient that inevitably remains after making homemade cottage cheese.

Let's prepare the ingredients for making Zebra pie using whey. They are the simplest. I always add a pinch of ground black pepper - not for spiciness, but for flavor. If this ingredient seems inappropriate to you, skip it.

Since the dough cooks quickly, immediately turn on the oven to warm up to a temperature of 180-190 degrees, and line the bottom of the baking dish with baking paper.

Break the egg into a deep bowl, add sugar and beat with a whisk until the sugar dissolves.

Then add vegetable oil and mix with a whisk.

Add the whey and mix with a whisk until all the liquid ingredients come together.

Mix flour with soda, pour into a bowl with liquid ingredients and mix with a whisk until a thin dough without lumps is obtained.

Mix each type of dough with a whisk. Everything is ready to form the striped cake.

It’s easier to form strips by pouring each type of dough into different measuring cups with a spout.

We pour the dough into the mold one by one, each time pouring a new layer into its center. Fill the form no more than 2/3 full - the dough will rise greatly in the oven.

Bake the Zebra pie with whey in a preheated oven for 40-50 minutes or until fully cooked. The finished cake is tall and ruddy; if you insert a wooden skewer into its center, it will come out dry and clean.

Let the cake cool slightly in the pan (15-20 minutes), then transfer it to a wire rack and cool completely before slicing.

If you use the cake as a base for a cake, then after the sponge cake has completely cooled, wrap it in cling film and leave it in a cool place for a day. After this, the “Zebra” can be cut into even cakes with almost no crumbs.

Of course, it is impossible to predict what pattern awaits us inside, so when cutting the pie into portioned pieces, we will see a new striped pattern every time.

Enjoy your tea!

  • Friends, hello everyone!
I offer a recipe for chocolate cake based on whey. It cooks quickly and turns out amazingly tasty. My family simply fell in love with this pastry from the first bite. I recently found this recipe on the Internet. I was looking for something I could make from whey, which I still have a lot of after making homemade cottage cheese. As a result, now I don’t know what my household is waiting for more: cottage cheese or the whey left after it.
The photo shows the ingredients you will need to make the chocolate cupcake.

Pour flour into a deep bowl.

    Add cocoa.

    Mix everything well.

For flavor, I add dried orange zest, ground in a coffee grinder, to the flour and mix everything again. The zest can be replaced with cinnamon, vanilla, whatever you like best.

Set aside the bowl of flour for a while and take out the blender. You can, of course, do without it and mix everything manually, but with the “miracle of modern technology” it is much faster. Break two eggs into a glass.

    Add sugar.

Whip with a whisk into a thick, fluffy mass. Pour in the whey.

    Beat everything again.

Add vegetable oil. It can be replaced with butter or margarine that has previously been melted to a liquid state. I chose plant-based because it makes baking more economical and I always have it on hand, and the taste of the cake does not suffer.

    Beat everything thoroughly.

Pour the resulting mass into flour.

Mix. Add slaked soda with vinegar. Mix again.

Grease the mold with vegetable oil. Again, it can be replaced with butter.

Pour the resulting mass into the mold.

Place our cake in a well-heated oven. Bake for 45 minutes at 200 degrees. Be sure to check readiness with a match or wooden stick. The cake can also be prepared in a slow cooker.

The chocolate cake is ready. I also love it because it moves away from its shape easily and effortlessly.

Bon appetit! The cake turns out crumbly and airy. You can decorate it with cream or berries, but I just don’t have time to do it before everything is eaten.
Good luck to everyone and new culinary discoveries!
