Working with mastic is pleasantly addictive. So be careful you can become a professional cake decorator.
In order to create, you need the mastic itself. Where can I get it? The first option is to buy ready-made mastic, which is what professionals most often do. But for artists just starting out, it can be a little expensive. Therefore, there is a second option for them.
The second option is to prepare the mastic yourself. Most often it is prepared from, but mastic can also be prepared from scratch. If you decide to make mastic yourself, then use this recipe.

Ingredients:
- 0.5 kg of powdered sugar;
- 1 tbsp. spoon of gelatin;
- 50 ml water;
- 0.5 teaspoon citric acid.

Preparation

Soak gelatin in water for 15 minutes. If it does not dissolve after this time, then place the bowl in a water bath and dissolve the gelatin completely. Add to gelatin powdered sugar in small portions, sifting it through a sieve. Add citric acid there. Knead it well for about 15 minutes.
The mastic should not stick to your hands or crumble. Otherwise, for the first case you do not have enough powdered sugar, and for the second case you need to add a little more citric acid or lemon juice. When the mastic is ready, you can start making the figures.

But let’s talk separately about coloring the mastic. For this purpose, liquid, gel-like dyes are used. If there are no such dyes, then use dry food dyes. They are mixed with a small amount water, and then the resulting paint is added in small drops (on a toothpick) to the mastic, kneading it.

Paint is added until the desired color is achieved. To make the bears we will need gray mastic and some black mastic, which we use to create the eyes. To create gray mastic, we, of course, need white mastic and black dye.

So, let's start, perhaps, by creating delicious and beautiful figurines of bear cubs; such figurines will delight both a child and an adult girl.
If you have problems with the volume of mastic, it is better to have some mastic in reserve. Then you will learn to determine exactly how much mastic you need for a particular figurine. For example, I spent 200 grams of mastic on my bear.

The first thing to start with is creating the torso. Working with mastic is similar to working with plasticine. So we remember kindergarten and sculpt a bear. So, we roll a large ball that fits the size of our planned Bear, and then smoothly narrow it and give it an oval shape.

The second stage is the creation of paws. The main rule for paws is that their thickness is the same. This can be achieved by rolling one sausage and then dividing it into two parts.

From one edge we cut the mastic at an angle so that it is convenient to attach them to the body.

Attach the upper legs to the body.

Then attach the lower legs.

Remember!!! Ordinary mastic is glued with water, but purchased mastic is attached and adheres perfectly without the help of water. It is best to smooth out all seams and make them least noticeable.
The next thing to do is take care of your head. Roll a ball smaller than on the body. We attach the head to the body, just like the legs. If you are afraid of damaging the figure, then you should put the head on a toothpick or skewer.

Ears are a mandatory attribute of a bear, where would we be without them? Let's roll two identical balls for them.

Let's make holes in them special tool(you can use a pin with a round head).

We attach it to the head by moistening it with water.

Then we smooth the seams so that the ears are “fused” with the head.

Now we have the base ready.

Now let's start decorating it. Let's start making bear hair. It can be done in two ways. The first is to use a sharp stick, “prying” the mastic.

The second method is to cut the mastic with small scissors

To understand how it is more convenient for you to make “wool”, you should practice on separate piece. At the same time, you will fill your hand, and your final teddy bear will come out great.
When the fur is ready, let's work on the muzzle. Take a small piece of white mastic and roll it into a ball. Glue it onto the head, forming a muzzle. Make a thin line in the middle using a toothpick and press in the nose (with a pin).

We make a nose from blue (black) mastic and attach it to the white muzzle. We press in the eyes. You can make voluminous eyes from black and white mastic. Or you can leave it as it is.

You see, there is nothing complicated about how to make a teddy bear from mastic. And with step-by-step photos it’s so easy to make a bear even with a child. cute

When we are going to sculpt decorations from mastic on birthday cake For a child’s birthday, I want to do something very familiar and loved by the baby. Every child has a favorite soft toy. Then mold the second paw in the same way.

Roll out white circles and glue them onto the foot with water. Mark the claws in a stack.

Divide the thin sausage in half into two equal parts.

Sculpt the paws. Mark the claws in a stack. Glue the finished legs to the body.

Form ears and glue to the head.

Form an oval of white mastic into the shape of a muzzle and glue it to the head.

Roll a tiny gray ball out of mastic and glue it to the face - this will be the nose. Mark the mouth on the muzzle.

Glue the head to the body. Make the eyes in the form of dots. You can also connect large objects using a toothpick. In this case, it is necessary to warn those who want to eat a sweet bear made from mastic.

If you first came across the concept of mastic or saw it on a cake, then it is very difficult to imagine what it was and how it was made. Mastic is an astringent and adhesive edible substance, homogeneous in composition, which is created in production or prepared by hand. A properly prepared mass is similar in consistency to plasticine, from which you can mold any figures.

The most interesting thing is that all the parts made from this material are not only beautiful, but also edible, because only food and natural dyes are used for preparation. In the event that the cake mastic is completely unusable, it can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 months, but the main thing is to wrap the mass in cling film or polyethylene before putting it in the freezer.

Marshmallow mastic "Marshmallow"

To prepare you will need:

  • Powdered sugar - how much the mass will absorb;
  • Marshmallow (chewable) - 200 gr.;
  • Water – 2 tbsp.
  • Food coloring to change the color of the mastic.

First, marshmallows are placed in a deep plate, water is added (to give the mass sourness, it can be replaced lemon juice), all this is placed in the microwave for 40 seconds. The mastic for the cake according to the recipe turns out to be soft and plastic. When the marshmallow has melted a little, powder is added, which is sifted in advance.

It needs to be added until the mass looks like plasticine, and this must be done gradually so as not to add too much, otherwise it will be impossible to work with the mastic - it will become rough. As soon as the mass is formed, it needs to be wrapped in cling film and put it in the freezer for 30-40 minutes, and then you can start working with it.

Experienced confectioners know that each type of mastic is suitable for specific purposes. But housewives, fascinated by art, find different ways to make cake mastic at home. More often the main criteria are inexpensive and available products, ease of preparation, versatility and the ability to color the mass after cooking.

Mastic with condensed milk

For this mastic you will need the following products:

  • Condensed milk – 200 gr.;
  • Powdered sugar – 160 gr.;
  • Powdered milk – 150 gr.;
  • Cognac – 1 tsp. (can be cooked without it);
  • Lemon juice – 2 tsp.

First you need to connect powdered milk and powdered sugar, then sift them through a sieve and begin to gradually pour in the condensed milk, add cognac and lemon juice. As soon as the mass has acquired the consistency of plasticine, it needs to be transferred to cling film and put in the freezer.

To make your own fondant Teddy bear, you will need any brown fondant, plus small pieces of lighter and black ones. The best thing, of course, is to buy mastic for making figurines; you can make it from flower mastic. In extreme cases, mastic for covering cakes is also suitable, but the figures made from it will be very soft and will have to dry for a long time in order to put it on the cake, for example. The same applies to the mixture - it will need to be kneaded thicker and dried longer.

Making the body - oval shape, more in the belly area.

You can imitate a seam with a special wheel, a toothpick or the tips of scissors.
