The first thing to do is to understand how much you really spend on food. The figure should not be approximate, but quite specific - taking into account meals at work, cafes and restaurants on the day off. And don't forget coffee at lunchtime.

1. So let's write it down - the first thing you need enter food cost accounting. Yes, it's boring, but not deadly. 🙂 It is quite enough to collect checks for two months to understand the scale of the disaster. Next, you need to try to cut the budget as a first approximation by at least 5-10%.

2. In austerity mode, it is better to immediately say “no” to gatherings in a cafe, ordering pizza and sushi, buying ready-made food in a supermarket. That's 10% savings for you.

3. If at work you are used to ordering a business lunch, then you should know that this is another hole in the budget. Try to take food with you from home.

4. Very helpful hostess. It still remains a mystery to me why this works, but with a menu, I personally experienced real budget savings of about 10-15%.

I will share my little life hack regarding the menu for the week. I was insanely burdened by the idea of ​​​​compiling a weekly list of dishes, and I came up with my own version. I made a table in Excel, divided it into three columns (first, side dish, second), gathered my will into a fist and filled out the table once. Enter only those dishes that your family eats. For example, soup is not on my list because no one really likes it. Second courses can be the simplest. Do not forget that you still have to cook them later.

10. Vegetables. This is a huge area to work on. We somehow got used to the set - potatoes, cabbage, peas ... oh. Focus on the season. All these qualities are possessed, for example, by the so-called legumes, i.e. a variety of cereals and legumes such as peas, lentils, beans, chickpeas and mung beans. Among the cereals there are many undeservedly forgotten, but hearty, tasty and easy to prepare, which go well with vegetables, but are also good on their own. I recently rediscovered barley. The issue price is about 20 rubles per kilogram, and you can cook both soup and a second dish like pilaf. From chickpeas, which are not the most common in our country, you can cook them as a salad, if you sprout it and mix it with vegetables, and cutlets, and a second course. The same applies to lentils. From simple rice, you can cook both traditional side dishes or pilaf, as well as more exotic, but no less tasty croquettes, if you mix boiled rice with cheese and spices to taste and lightly fry. In addition to ease of preparation and low price, pulses are rich in easily digestible protein and vitamins, and are also very nutritious.

Do not forget about potatoes, which can not only be fried, boiled and stewed, but also cooked in a casserole, poured with cream and sprinkled with cheese, as well as adding other vegetables and herbs. Such a dish is not only tasty, but also very beautiful, and may well play the role of a festive dish. From this vegetable you can cook a lot of other delicious dishes. But almost all fruit shops often offer a so-called "fruit pack", consisting of slightly spoiled fruits, at a reduced price. It is difficult to eat them fresh, but they are quite suitable for baking. In my family, a pie made from spoiled tangerines, bananas and pumpkins was a resounding success.

What about bread? It is better to bake it yourself. This idea seems complicated only at first glance. In fact, it turns out that concocting delicious bread, both yeast-based and more healthy yeast-free, on sourdough, is very simple, especially if you are the owner of a bread machine. But even if you don’t have this unit, excellent bread is obtained in a conventional oven. I bake unleavened sourdough bread. I knead in the morning or closer to dinner, put it in a warm place for 5-6 hours, and in the evening I pamper my home with a fresh loaf. A great option - products by weight. In large networks like Ausha, you can buy not only vegetables and fruits in this way, but also sweets, cookies, cereals, pasta, breakfast cereals, nuts, tea, coffee, frozen products and much more. This approach will solve several problems at once. First, it reduces the need to visit stores frequently, which also saves gas and time. The most important thing is not how much we buy, but what we buy. Most of the cost of food goes to all sorts of empty products that do not carry any value for the body (except psychological). These are various sweets, chips, snacks for beer, soda, fast food (where without it) and other nonsense.

So is it possible to save on food? Can! And even NECESSARY!

If you have an image of concentration camp prisoners, thin and sickly, in your head, you are deeply mistaken. You can easily reduce your food costs while eating more properly, nutritiously and healthily. And most importantly - no restrictions in terms of diets (hunger is not about us). In general, the usual natural food! What are we doing? We change eating habits and spend money in stores correctly.

Simple ways to save on food

  • buy only from the list. This eliminates the possibility of buying unnecessary products
  • don't go shopping hungry. Collect a lot of extra products
  • use discount cards
  • buy stock items. Let's say sunflower oil is sold with a 30% discount. Buy several bottles at once in reserve, say for a year. Imagine that you invested this money at a 30% return. Agree - very good
  • buy long-term stored products in bulk, or take in large packages
  • if you ran into the store only for bread (milk, yogurt) do not take a basket - you can collect a lot of excess
  • Go to the store as little as possible, say once a week. Daily hikes are fraught with unwanted purchases of extra (and useless) food
  • no semi-finished products and ready meals. Natural products are much cheaper and healthier
  • do not buy goods located at the checkout. As a rule, this is any expensive nonsense (chocolates, chewing gum), or stale goods that need to be sold quickly. Standing in line, a person mechanically considers all this, and often buys. Again, this is a waste of money.
  • know the prices of at least basic products and always check the receipt. It happens that the price of a product in some "fabulous" way increases in the check by 2 times. Apparently, while you were walking to the cashier, inflation also did not stand still -:)
  • the most expensive products are located at eye level and on the shelf above and below. Accordingly, we look even higher or lower - and there they look at us and wait for them to be bought products at the best price for us.
  • according to statistics, 30% of food goes to waste (not finished, rotten, tired), and along with them go to waste and the money paid for these products. Consider reducing the amount of food you prepare or the amount of purchased, perishable food.
  • no "empty" and harmful products. We also have our own national sweets: juice in packs, soda can be replaced with fruit drinks and kvass; fast food for pies and pies; chips, crackers for seeds and nuts, and so on.
  • buy seasonal vegetables and fruits. Make supplies (canned food, jam, freezing, salting) for the winter.
  • try to buy only local products. They are cheaper and fresher than those brought from who knows where, and who knows when.
  • The more beautiful the packaging, the more expensive the product. We pay attention to composition and quality.
  • check prices in neighboring stores. Surely, in one store some products are cheaper, in the second - others
  • take the bag with you to the store. Of course, the savings are small, but if you count for a year?

Using these tips (all together, or just some) you can save up to 50% of your food costs. I do not call for an ascetic lifestyle. If you really want to treat yourself to something tasty and harmful, why not. The main thing is to observe moderation. After all, in order to enjoy the taste of chocolate, it is enough to eat 1-2 slices, and not to gobble up a whole bar. You will enjoy both.
