Eggnog - a traditional Christmas recipe

We've all heard of eggnog - it's found in children's books, classics - but how many have actually tried it? It turns out that eggnog is an amazing delicacy and an excellent medicine that even children take with pleasure. The recipe for mogul-mogul is very simple, but there are a lot of variations. Today we will share one of them. The secret is that there are no raw eggs in our recipe.

In this article:

Ingredients

  • Egg - 12 pcs;
  • Sugar or syrup - 1.5 cups;
  • Salt - 0.5 teaspoon;
  • Milk - 1 l;
  • Vanilla extract - 2 tsp;
  • Nutmeg (grated) - 1 tsp;
  • Cream 33% - 1 cup or ready-made whipped cream.

Cooking process

Take a 3 liter saucepan, break the eggs into it.

Pour the sugar into the bowl with the eggs.

Add salt there.

Whisk with a fork or whisk.

Pour in half the milk and mix well.

Place the saucepan with the egg and milk mixture over low heat. Heat for about 25 minutes, stirring constantly. When the mixture is ready, it will not drip off an upside down wooden spoon.

While stirring, tune in to a festive mood, imagine the happy faces of your household. After all, no one has yet resisted the magic of eggnog prepared according to this recipe.

It is very important for the preparation of a delicious mogul not to let it boil. If there is an infrared thermometer at home that instantly determines the temperature of not only the body, but also the liquid (such are easy to find among young parents who worry about their child and meticulously measure the temperature of the water every time they bathe), check the temperature of the dessert. Ideally, it should be around 80 ˚С. If there is no thermometer, trust your intuition. But remember, eggnog is a delicate drink and should not be allowed to boil.

When the eggnog mixture is ready, pour it through a sieve into a heat-resistant dish.

All harmful lumps remained in the sieve, and the consistency of our dessert will be homogeneous and melt in your mouth.

Now add vanilla extract or a couple of vanilla sachets. And stir.

If you have a whole nutmeg, rub it into the same bowl. If not, add ground nutmeg.

Pour in the remaining milk, stir. Refrigerate for at least three hours or until completely cool.

When our eggnog is frozen, you can whip the cream.

Add cream (freshly whipped or ready-made) to a bowl of eggnog and pour into pretty glasses.

Eggnog looks great in mulled wine glasses. The dessert can be garnished with the remaining whipped cream and grated nutmeg.

And a couple more tips on how to make a celebratory drink even more memorable.

  • Adults can add some rum or skate.
  • Sophisticated housewives can use maple or berry syrup instead of the usual sugar or syrup, then the eggnog will have an additional flavor.
  • If you choose to whip the cream yourself, leave a little sugar or whipping syrup to keep the eggnog from becoming cloying.

Merry and delicious Christmas!
