Popular products of the 90s. Goods from the past

The 90s became an era when an incredible variety of Western products flooded into the unspoiled consumer of the former Soviet republics. And it doesn’t matter that many “sweets” contained a horse dose of dyes and flavor enhancers, then it seemed insanely attractive.

1. Chewing cigarettes

Many boys, and even girls, whose childhood fell on the 90s, remember how they sat in the yard and "smoked" a sweet chewing cigarette. At the time, it seemed cool and so grown-up, and then you could eat a cigarette. And do not care that soon chewing cigarettes were replaced by real ones.

2. "Galina Blanca"

A magic cube that can turn even the most liquid meager soup into an appetizing and rich one. The composition of the Galina Blanca bouillon cubes included flavor enhancers, flavors and vegetable fats, but this did not bother the housewives at all.

3. "Frame"

Any adult is familiar with the salty taste of the legendary Rama margarine. Margarine was generously smeared on bread, sometimes on cookies, and then the box was used for various household needs.

4. Pickwick Tea

In advertising, Pickwick tea was poured from a large bright teapot in the form of an orange or strawberry. In those days, from one bag, which was brewed more than once, a truly divine drink was obtained .. A hot drink was distinguished by a pronounced aroma. Of course, this was due to the presence of a powerful dose of chemical flavors.

5. Center Shock

At the mere sight of this candy, everyone who has tried it at least once reduces the jaw. All the children, without exception, indulged in Center Shock sweets. They were a round chewing gum with a very sour shell and a sweet syrup inside.

6. Yupi instant drink

Now the 90s can be safely called the era of sweet powdered drinks. Yupi was the first to hit the market, followed by Invite, and later Zuko. The principle of preparing delicious water was extremely simple: you had to pour bright sugar from a bag into a bottle and add water. The side effects of drinking too much were tongues and allergies, but who cared? By the way, not only children, but also adults dabbled in sweet "lemonade". For example, Zuko was one of the ingredients in the screwdriver cocktail.

7. Love is chewing gum

Love is bright chewing gums were a favorite treat not only for children, but also for adults. Despite the fact that they terribly spoiled their teeth and pulled out all the fillings, they made the biggest bubbles, and they collected entire albums from candy wrappers and actively changed them.

8. Bonibon dragee

Bonibon colored dragees with chocolate filling are a real hit of the 90s. They were produced in Lithuania and after the collapse of the Soviet Union were successfully exported to the countries of the former CIS. Sweets were very popular with children, but few parents could often indulge their children with such.

9. Turbo chewing gum

If Love is chewing gum wrappers were more interested in girls, then Turbo gum was a success with guys. All the boys actively collected candy wrappers, played with them, and the rarest of them could be exchanged for something more valuable.

10 Altoids Lollipops

Altoids small fruit candies were introduced a little later than other products, but quickly became a favorite with children and adults. They were much tastier than the usual duchesses or barberries, and enterprising housewives used a small tin can for domestic purposes.

11. Dried bananas

Perhaps, in this entire list, dried bananas are the most useful delicacy. It is worth noting that in Soviet times bananas were in terrible short supply. Dried bananas appeared on the shelves much later. They were sold in translucent packages of 10-15 pieces, and tasted a bit like dates.

12. Cola Cao

“Cola Kao is your strength and success! Cola Cao is the champion among cocoa! Everyone's favorite drink. Many people still remember its advertising and chocolate taste, and a large jar remained in the kitchen even after there was no trace of cocoa powder.

13. Magic chest Milky Way

At one time, Milky Way teamed up with Lego, resulting in a cardboard chest with sweets and a designer. Absolutely all the boys of the 90s dreamed of this, but there was a chance to get it only on the New Year or birthday.

BONUS: Chocolate Alenka

Of all the above delicacies, Alenka chocolate was the most affordable. It appeared relatively long ago and even managed to cross the threshold of the 90s, which far from all domestic products succeeded.

Video bonus:

In this post, we have collected a few products from the 90s that will make you feel nostalgic. But it’s even good that now many of these products are not available to us, because they had so many additives and chemicals! Yes, we will talk about products that were brought to us from abroad in the 90s.

Fully vegetable margarine "Rama" can be bought in the markets even now, but it no longer enjoys its former popularity. Do you remember?

If you have not eaten dried bananas, then drop everything and run to the nearest supermarket! It's delicious, but it just sticks to your teeth.

"Center Shock" is one of the first shocks of childhood for many. Do you remember the feeling when you got to the core? 😉

"And Seryozha too." There is nothing to add here.

The magical Milky Way/Lego chest has remained an unattainable treasure for many. Fortunately, both the bar and the designer can be freely purchased separately.

What to say about chewing gum "Turbo"? It's a cult. And in the course were black-and-white photographs of wrappers.

“Love from ...” was loved even by mothers for original candy wrappers. And yes, they taste great. A block of these chewing gums is a great and always relevant gift for Valentine's Day. Valentine.

Donald chewing gum was usually categorized as "for the little ones". Remember those?

The hero of the inserts, Tipitip, already in childhood caused a vague anxiety about his orientation (although, who among us knew that this happens in those days?) and always spoke Turkish, but all the same, his prominent nose ensured the popularity of this chewing gum.

The bubbles from this gum were just phenomenal!

It was not at all necessary to get drunk to such an extent that Rasputin winked from the label. He did it even from an unopened bottle. Successful publicity stunt.

Dougan is a multi-machine man who produced anything. We don't know about vodka, but his bread was delicious.

Those who were lucky enough to grow up in the 90s will no doubt agree that advertising was then one of the sources of knowledge. Moreover, in various areas of life: knowledge in the field of human physiology, psychology, history, English, and so on. At a time when the Internet was still a curiosity, advertising really played an informational role to a greater extent than it does now.
Previous part.
Gaskets "always" "o.b." "tampax": critical days are not terrible!

From advertising of this type, perhaps, it became embarrassing for everyone who already understood what it was about - both men and women. From me personally, the topic of “critical days” was somehow very far away then. I remember how my older brother explained to me that tampons " tampax”are not put into the hand at all, as was shown in the video (the phrase “in the middle of your body” was somewhat misleading for some schoolchildren). In this unusual way, many schoolchildren - not from the Internet and not even from biology lessons - learned some important physiological features of women.

Then " tampax"was one of the first and one of the most popular "brands" of a well-known orientation. The poor viewers also had the opportunity to see the "Olway" advertisements, which were even with wings - but I don't remember who flew them and where. I also remember the slogan o.k. – o.b.". In general, manufacturers of such an intimate product as sanitary napkins, created to deal with critical days, tried to convince of the necessity and indispensability of this blessing of civilization, and also to stand out from competitors. How much moisture they can absorb, how comfortable they are, how comfortable they are fixed - all this is usually mentioned with gusto, not without details. And sometimes the videos included "funny" melodies for those times with simple rhymed advertising texts. Of course, today they are perceived very naively.

World History: with Bank Imperial

But the cognition of Russian advertising of the 90s is not limited to this. An example that evokes much more pleasant emotions is the decision of the Imperial bank to create a series of commercials that are very abstract from the bank itself. In it, apparently, interesting stories from world history were simply collected. As if illogical somehow, by today's standards, a publicity stunt was made. And at the same time, the commercials at that time were quite powerful, resonant.

Here is an example. Tamerlane - one of the most famous conquerors of the past (14th century) - ordered all his soldiers to throw one stone at a time, and thus a mound was formed. When returning back, the surviving warriors took away the stones. The remaining pile of stones - apparently symbolizing the dead soldiers - evoked very strong, but at the same time - conflicting feelings. And, as they say, you're a soulless brute if you don't cry. =) Especially - on the phrase: "And he spoke to them, remembering their names."

Other clips in this series used stories from tales or true stories, a little embellished, a little creatively reworked ... But made like a real short film! And now we can confidently say that they were masterpieces of art. A little humor and irony (as in the plot about Nero), a little historical entourage - and very interesting, informative "things" came out!

Dandruff and caries: enemies are victorious (Wash & Go, Colgate, Orbit, Dirol, etc.)

Of course, through the advertising that was in the 90s, we “discovered for ourselves” (also, by the way, a phrase from advertising) that life can be absolutely unbearable if you have not yet defeated such severe enemies of humanity as, for example, dandruff and caries.

If we talk about the enemy of hair, here the manufacturers of Western shampoos, trying to conquer the promising Russian market, tried to describe their advantages over competitors as much as possible, giving, at first glance, logical arguments. Sometimes interesting experiments were carried out. However, in our minds, this sometimes sounded as strange and wild as the experiments on eggshells, which were carried out in order to protect us from another misfortune - caries. Remember? There, another half of the egg was treated with “regular” pasta, and the other half with the advertised one.

As a result of adverse effects, the first half became soft, and the second remained hard. And then, in some humorous program, all this absurdity turned into a parody: the shampoo advertised in it was applied to one half of the head (!), And the “normal” shampoo was applied to the second.
Of course, it is impossible not to remember in connection with the problem of caries and Dirol, Orbit, Stimorol and others like them. Everyone tried to stand out by stuffing a "key" phrase into the video, which was then on everyone's lips. For example, "Dirol" we remember that it was "with xylitol and carbomite." And what's the difference, we didn't even know what it was! Advertising was discussed, which means that the desired result was achieved.

Life without imagination, or "Her Majesty, the Plastic Bottle!"

Forgotten, forgotten, completely forgotten! But this item with full confidence can be called the "queen of the 90s"! And all why? Yes, simply because now he (or rather, she) has become so firmly established in our everyday life that it is difficult to imagine how we used to do without him. What do we drink various drinks from almost every day, pour vegetable oil into the pan? What do we pour the necessary liquid into? And (Oh, God! It would not have occurred to us in the 90s!) We throw it out without the slightest remorse? Guessed?! Yes, she is Her Majesty
Plastic bottle!

Remember how we bought completely unnecessary drinks just to wash it and use it further. How long have plastic containers been stored in our household!

Buying a plastic bottle of lemonade was considered an indicator of wealth, if not coolness. Only wealthy people could afford to drink beer not from glass bottles, but buy themselves (and more!) their favorite drink in plastic containers. And, of course, to wash it in order, for example, to collect milk there for pouring from grandmothers. A long-lasting beer smell does not count! And if the label is beautiful, there was no price for such a bottle!

I remember that some housewives even tried to preserve something for the winter in such bottles. For example, tomato juice. Imagine the joy of the household when this product was opened for the New Year! The brightness of emotions was provided for a long time! Moreover, in the truest sense of the word: the hostesses were unaware that a nutritious drink, as a result of fermentation with bright fireworks of splashes, would break the dullness of the kitchen, leaving blood-red marks on its walls right up to the next repair. But even after this disaster, the bottle was lovingly washed and used on the farm further. I wonder where such a love of our people for plastic containers comes from? Maybe the "circulation" of the goods was limited? Or is it all about our natural craving for gathering, which probably comes from primitive ancestors? And as soon as we didn’t learn how to pour healthy liquids into the younger “brother” of our bottle, that is, into a cardboard food bag? Imagine, I drank the juice - I poured the compote into the bag! Not fate, you see! It was she who got all the laurels, although the first packages with juices and cheap wine also appeared in the mid-90s.

You know, sometimes the thought comes to mind that a plastic bottle is the greatest achievement of mankind! How did we ever live without it? Do you need to roll out the dough? Pour into a bottle of water - the rolling pin is ready! If you want to continue building muscle - pour sand into the same bottle - here are dumbbells for you! Need to invite the family to dinner? Cut off the neck of the bottle - and the mouthpiece is ready! Do not throw it away after dinner - it will come in handy as a funnel for bulk products or liquids! The second half of the bottle is suitable for seedlings! And if you decorate it a little, you can turn it into an exquisite planter or just a flower pot (it all depends on your imagination!).

Stop sitting at home - it's time to go to nature, to the country! Naturally, without a bottle, there is nothing to do there! Let adults make ceiling lamps and buckets out of it, and let the children play bowling. Shall we go to the river? So the time has come to test our unique raft or life buoy made from bottles tied in a special way! Another wonderful property of a corked bottle came in handy: plastic does not sink!

At night in winter, many did not forget to fill the bottle with hot water and put it under their feet. For needlewomen, a plastic bottle is a storehouse of fantasy! All kinds of caskets, bracelets, garlands, baskets, flowers, even curtains ...

It seems that if Robinson Crusoe happened to stay on a desert island one on one with several packages of plastic bottles ... he would have survived with great pleasure and even comfort! Probably, he would have made slippers from them, and maybe he would have built a house for himself by filling the bottles with sand and stacking them on top of each other. One "but": Robinson did not have a "primordially Russian" ingenuity and did not live in the 90s!

Gambling addiction of the 90s: a pleasant and almost harmless addiction (Electronics, Tetris, Yo-yo, Tamagotchi, etc.)

The main toy of our time is the computer. Computer games capture so much that sometimes we forget to eat or sleep. But our dependence did not come immediately. It reaches for us from childhood and youth - from the nineties. What were we playing at the time? I'll tell you with my own example.

At first I had a small toy - " Electronics where the wolf caught the eggs.

Four trays from which eggs roll, and between them a wolf with a basket. I still remember the sound of rolling eggs. The speed increases, and now you are already hoarding broken shells. The limit of broken eggs ends - and starts all over again. It was a primitive toy with the simplest control, but it was very popular and passed from hand to hand.

Then came Tetris.

Platform with a display and a set of buttons. This toy had several modifications. The simplest had only one game called Tetris in its functionality. The figures falling from above had to be folded into even rows, which were removed to make room for new ones. And if even rows did not work out, then they accumulated, reached the very top, and the game ended. The higher the level, the faster the speed. As the speed increases, you begin to get more nervous, fidgeting in place, as if the movements of the body will help to correctly position the figure. Now there is almost no space left on the screen, and you lose, while shouting the newfangled “damn!”. More advanced models, in addition to Tetris, included Tanks, Snake and other games. In some models, the number of games reached 99 pieces, as indicated on the body of the toy: "1 in 1", "8 in 1" or "99 in 1". The reign of Tetris lasted a long time. The game has been modified, and even now it can occasionally be found on sale in kiosks and stalls.

Portable games have been replaced by Yo-Yos.

This is a toy consisting of two identical disks fastened with an axle. A rope was attached to the axis, along which the Yo-Yo was raised and lowered. Our parents were more pleased with these toys than the previous ones. After all, classes with "Yo-Yo" provided at least some "physical activity." =) Then whole clubs and Yo-Yo competitions began to be created. The control techniques of the toy were very different: from simple ones that a beginner could master, to the most complex ones, subject only to professionals. "Yo-Yo" has lost the breadth of its popularity, but among amateurs it is still in price. They can be found on sale even now. Modern design, large assortment, but still it's the good old "Yo-Yo".

Who in childhood did not ask their parents to get a cat or a dog? Everyone has probably gone through this. But not all parents fulfilled the wishes of the child. Therefore, "Tamagotchi" became a kind of compensation for the intractability of moms and dads.

The invention of Japanese manufacturers made a splash all over the world. A small device that fits in the palm of a teenager imitated a pet. On the display, you could see a kitten or a puppy, and in some models you could choose between a duck, an alien or a panda. "Tamagotchi" made the dream of a pet come true, which had to be looked after, which had to be fed, "walked", treated, it was even necessary to play with him so that he would not die of boredom. And it wasn't enough to do it just once a day. The Tamagotchi kept asking for something. Therefore, we took him to school for lessons, so as not to miss feeding or a walk. With good care, he matured and his age was shown on the display. If the pet suffered from hunger, melancholy and disease, he died. On some models, the inscription “Game over” was displayed, on others, a mound with a cross appeared. Even my dog died once and I cannot express in words how worried I was about this. Seeing the ill-fated mound, I threw the Tamagotchi far away, so as not to go through it again. The vulnerable children's psyche was subjected to incredible stress at that moment, which almost turned into depression. But a little time passed, and I turned it on again, trying to satisfy all its needs. My puppy was growing up, and I was delighted to watch him jump around the display with a satisfied face.
Now these toys are not even interested in modern children. The new generation has been at the computer since birth and ... as they say, the “shkolota” do not understand what emotions we experienced at their age! They probably won't have to cry for the dead Tamagotchi!

Hobbies of the school period: candy wrappers, "Love is ..." and questionnaires.

My childhood was completely spent in the period of the 90s. True, I went to kindergarten for the first half of them and remember very little from that time. But in 1993, when I went to the first grade of high school, a more conscious age began.
I remember that after classes at school, I always stayed in after-school. In the first grade, we only did our homework, then there was a quiet hour, and then our parents took us home. In the after school, where I stayed after classes in the second grade, we did our homework and played various games. Most of all I remember the game of "wrappers" from that time. At that time, chewing gum was literally about to appear, I remember well how I constantly begged my parents for “Love is” chewing gum. And often they bought.

Each chewing gum had a colored wrapper with inscriptions. I never threw them away, but collected them, and so did most of my peers. This is how they spent time playing with them: they brought candy wrappers to the “extension” and played with them. A company of several people gathered, everyone took out one candy wrapper, stacked it on top of each other - so that the picture was not visible, after which they took turns (I don’t remember how the queue was determined) clapped their hands, and how many candy wrappers turned over with the picture up, so many and took away. It was very disappointing when you collect, collect these candy wrappers, and then you lose them all at once. And again I had to collect candy wrappers in a new way so that I could play again and again. And so for a very long period of time, until we grew up.

In the senior classes in our school (probably not only in ours, but in all schools) it was very fashionable to draw up and fill out so-called questionnaires.

Almost every girl in school had questionnaires, I remember how we asked a friend to fill out his questionnaire, and, of course, filled out the questionnaires of her friends. The thicker the questionnaire was, the more different questions it contained, the more people filled it out, the more interesting the questionnaire was. Sometimes in the questionnaires, on the very first pages, they wrote something like this: “Please do not soil the notebook, do not tear out the sheets. And if there are mistakes, please do not correct them. Or: "Count all mistakes as a smile." This is how they justified their ignorance.

The questionnaire was filled out not only by girls, but also by boys. I remember how I took the questionnaires of my friends to fill out at home, I will fill out my pages, and then it was very interesting to see how others filled out the same questionnaire. Some students instead of full name. indicated some encrypted parameters, and it was very interesting to figure out who filled out the questionnaire in this way. At the end of all questions, it was necessary to draw something interesting and write your wish to the owner of the questionnaire. I did not like this item at all, and therefore I did not like to fill out other people's profiles, but I really loved it when my profile was filled out and my friends wrote about how well they treat me. Of particular interest at school age were the questions in the questionnaire: Who do you like? Who are you friends with? Who are you not friends with? Someone you love? You have a boyfriend? What's his name? and other similar questions. Personally, I always answered such frank questions untruth. I was somehow embarrassed to be frank, knowing that others would read it later.

It was also very fashionable to make “Secrets” in each questionnaire. This is when a sheet of notebook was folded several times and written on it " DO NOT open". It was very interesting to see what kind of “secret” it was and, as I remember, I always secretly opened such leaves from everyone and looked at what was written there. It always happens like this: what you can’t do, you really want it. And in my profile there was also such a secret, I asked everyone who discovered my secret to sign or draw something as a keepsake. I was particularly delighted when my questionnaire was filled out by girlfriends and friends from parallel classes, or friends in the yard. I don’t even know how to explain it, but for some reason it was also especially appreciated.

I still have a school questionnaire, even at school I constantly reviewed it, already in high school. And you know, I read and smiled, remembering how stupid we were, how funny we answered questions, and what wonderful questions we asked in our questionnaires. Now my old school profile still exists. She lies somewhere far abandoned, it seems - with her parents. By the way, it would be very interesting to find it, look at it and look through it after such a long period of time. Yes, it will be necessary to do this at your leisure - to remember your childhood.

In general, as correctly noted in "Demotivators", questionnaires are "vkontakte" of the 90s.

What's so amazing? Man was created with the need to communicate. Then it was done in such a nice little way.

Black and white photos, or "Excursion to the past".

Wonderful time - the beginning of the 90s! What do we have left of them, except for nostalgic memories? Of course, photos! They are very different from modern ones. Rarely there are bright, colored, mostly - black and white, amateur. This does not mean that our life at that time was devoid of colors. On the contrary, there are so many emotions, positive, happiness in every photo! If someone in your company had "Zenith" or "FED" - this is a huge success! By the end of the decade, there were instant Polaroids and advanced Kodak, and at that time we went with my parents to the photo studio and posed for a group color photograph. Or a photographer came to school. Basically, it was on holidays. Despite the lack of photographic equipment, our photographs of those years are real masterpieces, each of which has its own history, its own joys, if you like, even its own music!
"White light to see and show yourself"

Here is a general photo - we are with the class (9th at that time) on an excursion in Leningrad (then still Leningrad, not St. Petersburg). Remember how often we traveled with classmates and teachers? Everyone is “cool”: in varsas and leggings, puffy down jackets and a huge amount of puffy boots. The girls all have cascade hairstyles with fleece, bright clip-ons in their ears, bright badges with Dima Malikov and the group " Carmen". Beauties! Guys our girls match! Jackets open, under them sweaters brown-white-green. With ornaments, in the middle, all the boys signed: "Boys", probably so as not to be confused inadvertently. Bangs on the eyes, short pigtails behind. I remember one had a cassette player with large headphones. The girls and I took turns playing songs: then C.C. Ketch, then Sabrina. Jammed cassette - nothing: there is a pencil, rewind!

In general, we, the inhabitants of a small town of fraternal Ukraine, remembered that excursion for a long time. Even at the Leningrad railway station, the girls unanimously “stocked up” with gypsies with cosmetics and then for two whole weeks flaunted around the city with bright blue shadows and purple lipstick. Maybe because it was cool, maybe because the “gypsy cosmetics” made of chalk and Vaseline were not washed off ... We looked at the Aurora, blowing bubbles from the Bubble Gum, admired Peterhof, putting on a lot of hairpins and elastic bands on luxurious hair. In the evening they lit up at the disco under Kai Metov, " Technology" and " Hands up!". One of the evenings even got to the concert Mikhail Boyarsky chanted all the way back his " green-eyed taxi". Cool time!

And this is a photo of me - crying and unhappy. Aaah, first love... "Goodbye, my boy" Angelica Varum and T Anya Bulanova“Don’t cry, we have one more night left with you”… God, heartbreaking emotions! Then in the yard with the guitar "Night Rendezvous" and "My Beloved" until my mother's angry voice from the window calls me to sleep (there were no mobile phones then - I had to send voice messages to the whole yard online ... Yes, so so that all the neighbors are aware!).

Work days.

Code of Criminal Procedure. In decryption - training and production plant. There was no smell of a combine there, but it was useful in life. Instead of labor lessons, we received professions. Here the girls and I are passing the exam for the “third-class cook”, but the boys are mastering the profession of a tractor driver, saddling the only dilapidated tractor from all sides.

Here we are, harvesting grapes in a labor camp. Did you have those? The boys are smoking on the sidelines. Something so familiar to the pain ... "Golden Beach"! Yes, “Rhodopi”, “Tu” quietly dabbled, then it went like in the song “Smoke of Menthol Cigarettes”.
Prom… Peroxide bleached bangs, raspberry jackets, platform shoes and promises of eternal friendship… Doctor Alban and Yaki-da…
20 years flew by like a blink of an eye. There were black-and-white photographs taken by Zenith. Black and white, but brighter than many color ...

"Santa Barbara": "Dom-2" in the style of the 90s.

Remember what our mothers and grandmothers did in the 90s all evening long? When the whole family is fed, the dishes are washed - it's time for TV shows. They went on all then existing channels. “The rich also cry”, “Slave Izaura”, “Wild Rose”, “Just Maria” and others. These series were at first very boring, fully justifying their nickname "soap operas". But later, it seems, they “cheered up”, “rejuvenated”.
Topping the list is the famous Santa Barbara.

The name of this series has literally become a household name. They call something confusing, incomprehensible and endless. And not without reason. After all, "Santa Barbara" was on TV for 9 years. It started in January 1992 and ended in April 2002. I wonder if there are people who watched it to the end or those who remember the essence of the series. It seems to me that the creators, starting the series, had some kind of development scheme, but they got so carried away that the plots began to be sucked out of their fingers, stretching it out for ten years. But the nineties are hard times for our parents. Times of strikes at factories where wages had not been paid for months, times when there was no certainty about the future. Therefore, the series were a lifesaver from melancholy and despair. Every evening they sat with pleasure at the convex screens of TVs "Birch" or "Ruby" and watched the bright life of CC and Sophia Capwell, Masen and Kelly, Lionel and Augusta Lockridge and many others. Moms worried, cried and laughed along with the heroes, filling their lives with emotions. Remembering Santa Barbara, a comparison immediately flashed through my head with Dom-2, which has been chaining tens of thousands of viewers to TV sets for seven years. In this show, everyone has already forgotten why they are there and what is the purpose of this action. The houses are built, but they still come and go, get married and have children - incomprehensibly, confusingly, long.

Not all of us shared our parents' desire to watch these soap operas. The youth watched "Beverly Hills, 90210", "Helen and the guys", "Alf", "Wild Angel" and "Wizards - Great Dragon Country". In Beverly Hills, 90210, someone saw himself as a simple teenager, like the twins Brandon and Brenda Walsh. Others associated themselves with the golden youth, in whose cycle of events the twins fell, while trying not to tarnish their name.
Helen and the Boys was a kinder French production series.

It told about four young couples, including Helen and her boyfriend Nicolas. And how I liked the song from this series! Not knowing how to sing in French, I came up with a couple of verses for this tune.

... The moon met us,
And the wind sang a song.
And the sparkle of your beloved eyes
Promised me tonight
What's in your heart forever
We can spread love.
What time and year
Can't share a heart...

Naive, childish, but with great hope for a good future.

« Wild Angel"was especially loved by the female half of the youth.

Argentinean story in the style of Cinderella. Milagros and Ivo - almost all the girls wanted to be in her place. Natalia Oreiro gained immense popularity after this film. On every second schoolgirl you could see bangs like hers, we listened and learned her songs by heart. For example - Cambio Dolor.
Eh, there was a time. There aren't as many shows now as there were back then. But no one is so catchy, we have changed. Have grown up. But if now they started to play something from the old on TV, oh, I would look, I would plunge into the memories of the good old days. First of all, about our beloved 90s.

The dawn of cleanliness and convenience.

“Why is one button blue on the faucets in the bathroom and in the kitchen, and the second is red?” My child wondered in the 90s, when cold water flowed from both faucets. The answer was found only after we safely bought a boiler, and the water went along the regular route: from a tap with a red button - hot, with a blue one, respectively - cold. The 90s did not please with the temperature diversity of H2O. This made me think about the questions: “How did they wash the dishes then? And how did you take care of your hands?
Remember soda? Indeed, laundered everything that is possible and that is impossible too. It was in the 90s that universal dishwashing detergents began to appear on the shelves of domestic stores. It turned out better than soda. And then it started ... Unprecedented excitement around the cleanliness of dishes, pots and pans. Probably now it will be difficult to say which detergent from that variety was the first. There were a lot of them right away. But the fact that in Russia (and, probably, in all CIS countries) this happened precisely in the 90s is an irrefutable fact.

Of course, the world brands like "Bingo" and "Fairy" are already quite a few years old, but our layman appreciated the merits of detergents much later than the "residents of Villaribo and Vilabagio." Appreciated and rushed to the shops. And there is an abundance: detergent in powders, gels, granules, completely liquid. Imagine, our mothers, who have used soda and mustard for hygienic purposes for their dishes all their lives, what is it like? And then the unsinkable Aunt Asya arrived in time, and the neighbor with the Comet constantly bothers. As it turned out in the late 90s, washing dishes is also good for hands! You just need to buy detergent with the appropriate balm. It turns out that the more dishes you wash, the better the skin on the handles becomes, it becomes smooth and silky. Although, for example, I still like the old, like the world, "female secret of young skin" more: "The best way to care for your hands is to do everything with your husband's hands."

"Excesses" of the post-Soviet space

But soap is also different! Previously, the choice was small: laundry soap was considered the best laundry detergent, and fragrant bath soap was considered the best for washing. In the 1990s, the choice became much wider. We learned about the antibacterial properties of Safegart and even tried to wash - Oh, the wonders of progress! - shower gel and liquid soap! You press once - and you have a drop of deliciously smelling soap solution in your hand - isn't this the highest degree of comfort ?! And what fun it was to repeatedly press on the "soap dispenser" in the toilet of some supermarket when no one was watching! In the late 90s, large stores appeared along with their sanitary rooms. There, in addition to liquid soap, there were such “exotics” as toilet paper in booths, paper towels and a hand dryer. But once each of us first entered such a closet of the post-Soviet space! It’s a pity, now we probably don’t remember our feelings!

Gradually and imperceptibly, wet wipes also entered our everyday life. Today they are used absolutely everywhere - at home and in the country, in the office and in nature, in the car and on a walk with children. They are lightweight, easy to use and functional. The use of wet wipes has become so familiar to us that many can no longer imagine life without them. Although, of course, it is hard to wean the representatives of the older generation to use checkered handkerchiefs.
"Mom dear!"

Well, what about the "harmful" diapers? They “reached” us also by the end of the 90s (at about the same time when the cherished “ Olweis" and " libress"). Dear mothers and grandmothers, how did you raise your children with gauze diapers?! How many gauze and diapers did you wash and iron in one day?! The first diapers cost more than the current ones. But after trying them once and evaluating the benefits of a restful sleep over the night “recitals” arranged by your beloved child, you ran to the night stall in any weather and bought a life-saving remedy with a cute name “ diaper» piece by piece. After all, you had that too, didn’t you?…

It will not be an exaggeration to say that the 1990s were the time of many “hygienic discoveries” for us! Of course, “overseas countries” have long known about “bringing purity to the world”, but we stubbornly washed things with laundry soap and boiled them in boiling water on the stove, stirring with a wooden stick; washed with bath soap and moisturized the skin with baby cream; put phytoshampoo on hair Chamomile"and did not suspect that soon our eyes would be "opened" to the most terrible "tragedies of mankind" - the problems of dandruff and caries ... Now we can only remember those times of everyday difficulties and hygienic innovations. We were sincerely surprised at the shine and silkiness of the hair after " Pantina", the sparkling whiteness of things after " Ariel”and perfectly clean dishes after“ Fae“... And now, you see, it’s already difficult to surprise us with anything!

Instant noodles, or "Taste of students!"

How is lunch different from any other meal? “The first course of dinner is definitely soup!” You will say, and you will be absolutely right. Of course, neither for breakfast, nor for dinner, nor, moreover, "for a snack" we will not eat soup. It is now. And in the distant 90s, it happened that at any time of the day we could eat soup with great pleasure. While enjoying its unearthly taste and completely affordable price.
In the store, we chose: what is on our menu today - soup with chicken, beef or shrimp? And, by the way, they did not experience the slightest discomfort from the fact that the same product is chosen by nearby citizens of absolutely minimal income and standard of living. No, on the contrary, we felt a burning interest and even some kind of pride if we managed to find something new to our taste in the assortment. The only thing that was required for such a wonderful first course that saves time and budget was a glass of boiling water. “Enough to intrigue, tell me quickly, what is it?”, Young hostesses will exclaim, dressing in a hurry before the distance to the supermarket. And, having learned the answer, they wrinkle their nose in disgust and shrug their shoulders in bewilderment. But we, who met the birth of bouillon cubes and instant noodles in student dormitories, proudly say that we have not tried anything tastier than Doshirak or Mivina of the 90s since then!
If Alenka chocolate is the taste of our childhood, then Galina Blanca and Maggi are the taste of our youth! When you come home from class, you make yourself some noodles, and the world becomes beautiful again, like never before! No mournful lectures about unhealthy and healthy food, no worries about how to feed the whole family tastier and more vitamin. Oh, the golden time, carefree ... It has sunk into oblivion along with the popularity of instant noodles ...
Nostalgia for "Doshirak".

Manufacturers of the same product Doshirak are trying to revive their former popularity. Packaging is being improved, various flavors and dyes are being added, bags with sauces and croutons are being put in. But, alas! They can't come up with anything tastier than that green pack (or the yellow one in Ukraine). Neither voluminous plates with spoons and forks, nor promises to find pieces of meat in the soup - nothing can replace what happened in those very 90s! A bright yellow steaming spring, one cherished bag of spices, the other with drops of oil and - aroma! Nothing compares to the scent! Now this “ombre” can only be “heard” on trains. And then - brewing noodles will feel out of place (or in a glass :-)) because of the sidelong glances of fellow travelers.

Well, tell me honestly: have you ever wanted that same bag? Have you ever enjoyed mushroom flavored mashed potatoes? Haven't eaten vermicelli by the campfire while camping? Did you cook borscht with bouillon cubes? Didn't they scold the children for gnawing dry vermicelli? Or maybe you yourself crunched dry Chinese vermicelli? Yes, wrong...

The evolution of vermicelli.

It seems that the time for semi-finished products is somehow running out, have you noticed? Favorite dish of the 90s - vermicelli with stew - now it tastes completely different. Either they stopped stewing with high quality, or animals became tasteless ... How to explain to a child that once half of the hostel licked their lips, smelling the unearthly aroma of stew, and they had to cook a dish in the common kitchen, carefully protecting it from encroachment by classmates? By the way, if you build a scheme of evolution, "Doshirak", "Rollton" and "Mivina" came after "Knorr", "Gallina Blanca" and "Maggi". And their fundamental principle in the student diet is still long vermicelli with stew. I wonder what our children's student times will be associated with? Will they remember him with the same nostalgia as we - students of the 90s?

The taste of the distant 90s.

What can be found on the shelves of supermarkets now? Hmm ... It's easier to answer what is not there. It doesn't have that taste. The real, which is firmly entrenched in childhood and youthful memories. But, starting from bread and ending with delicacies, we see a whole range of products from various manufacturers, from different countries and for any budget, with and without GMOs.

But some fifteen years ago, there were no supermarkets and self-service stores. Behind the usual counter of a store called " Soviet" or " birch”was a kind aunt of large size and with chemistry on her head. And it was not a burden for her to take the change from you that you saved up all week to buy gum. She did not grimace if she had to follow her to the other end of the store or climb onto the top shelf. And giving you the long-awaited chewing gum, she always asked: “How is your mother doing? She's at work?".

And now you quickly unfold the wrapper and you feel the sweet smell of goodies. Oh, what then were chewing gum! I didn't want to part with them. They were glued on the table before going to bed, so that in the morning the jaws would work on the elastic again. It no longer has that sweetness, but it is in the memory and this was enough for more than one day. Not being able to buy gum, you ask your friends to treat you. They tear off a piece of chewing gum, which they themselves have just chewed, and gave it to you, saying at the same time: "From mouth to mouth - a microbe is obtained."

Then the variety of chewing gums was not striking in its breadth. I remember my first chewing gum in the form of a cigarette. You tear off the white wrapper, and inside is pink gum. Very sweet and crumbly. In order for it to turn into a homogeneous mass, it was necessary to chew it for several minutes. There were also flat and long chewing gums - five pieces in a pack - coffee, mint ...

Then "Love Is ...", "TURBO", "Donald" and others began to appear. Phantom mania boiled over. You find another wrapper that is not yet in your collection, open an album specially created for this purpose or just a box, and put the wrapper there. Be careful not to crush or tear. But different candy wrappers did not always appear, and you accumulated a bunch of “double” ones. Did we get upset about it? Not! This is a great lesson at breaks at school or even right in the classroom - the exchange of candy wrappers.
The boys, then, I remember, were most fond of cars like those that met in "TURBO". They collected a collection of cars with a description of technical characteristics. The girls liked "Love is ...". Even then they dreamed of boys, kisses on the cheek and a gift in the form of a field chamomile. I still have candy wrappers from those years.
Can the juices that are now sold in stores be called natural? With difficulties. Not without chemistry. And what used to replace modern juices - "Zuko", "Invite" and "Yupi".

After much persuasion, mom buys you a bag of chemical powder, even helps you dilute it in water so that you drink and understand how disgusting it is. Yes, there is sediment at the bottom of the decanter, yes, you can feel the powder on your tongue when you drink, and your whole mouth after the drink becomes unnatural in color. But there was some strange feeling that it was much cooler than boring soda drinks like "Bells" and "Pinocchio"!

Do you remember how mothers and grandmothers made yummy kefir and bread for us at night?

Mom will get kefir from the refrigerator. A glass bottle, a wide mouth, and a foil lid that you love to rip off yourself. Milk and fermented baked milk were sold in the same bottles. And the products differed in the color of the lid. The milk bottles had a colorless foil cap. There were also scarlet covers, purple, gold, green. Some even collected them: they leveled them, folded them, and then admired them. And the “yummy” itself was made like this. Kefir was poured into a glass, a loaf crumbled there, and the preparation was completed with sugar. Spoon after spoonful of this delicacy - and now, at the bottom, the remains of kefir and the remaining undissolved sugar. Nothing else is needed for sweet dreams. Sometimes I make myself such a treat to remember my childhood. But the taste is not the same can not be returned. And don't break the lid.

“I remember my childhood…”: pagers, telephones, jokes about “new Russians”.

We, the children of the 90s, felt our childhood a little differently. But I was surprised to find that there is a lot in common, talking with those who grew up in the 90s and, together with me, felt the rapid progress of civilization, the change of regimes and ideologies. For a change, I just want to let them speak, without any comments or explanations. Here is what Andrew told me.
“I remember my childhood: school, fun years, when we were still talking with our peers on the home phone, not like now very often mobile phones, which already more resemble those computers that some people had only just begun to dream about. It was then still agreed with friends to meet in exact places, at a certain time, because it was not possible to call “directly from the place” on the “mobile phone” and find out where the comrade was missing.
I remember how my mother sat in the kitchen and chatted for hours on the wire phone with her friends about the work day or the day off ... And having finally won the phone, I called my friends, talked with them for hours on end about what you would do tomorrow, what you did today ... Well, the phone is so convenient! Back when there were no computers, it was the only way to chat with your friends after you hadn't seen them for, oh, horror, for several hours.

Then pagers began to appear - such new things that came to us from abroad and completely absorbed business people into their electronic industry, and after that - young people who also wanted to stay in touch, then it was the only such opportunity, with their comrades.

Remember how you had to call the operator who provided paging and tell the female operator who you want to contact, call the number of the person you want to send the message to and after that - wait for the girl to type the text, and it was very small, literally a couple of important words, and will send your electronic parcel to the right addressee. There were also games in these pagers, then it seemed so fashionable, a snake and something else were somehow placed on this small screen ... Then, in the markets, belt cases for pagers began to appear all the time and all the men busily hung out these wallet cases on belts and in the company of friends they importantly took out their pagers and seeing on the screen: “Buy bread” - they said with dignity: “They are disturbing from work.”

I remember as soon as the first mobile phones appeared, more like a police radio, they put forward such a long antenna, and the keyboard was covered with a lid.

Important respectable guys in jackets carried them in the breast pockets of their oversized jackets, fancy colors and strange cuts, which, by the way, later became a topic for jokes. Jokes about the "new Russians" were written in books and magazines - collections of jokes, where there were still jokes about "Vovochka", "Vasily Ivanovich and Petka" and others.

Then black-and-white phones appeared, and the struggle of the first telephone operators began. These billboards were all over the place offering new rates and great deals for early mobile phone owners. There were only a couple of tariffs, but the struggle continued on all TV channels and newspapers. People began to change their pagers for these new outlandish units, buy new wallet cases in the same markets and change the equipment on their belts with a sense of dignity, which added even more “coolness” to mustachioed uncles and teenagers.

But soon it was time for new phones. These were already stronger and more interesting, as it seemed to us then, devices, people began to buy them furiously, showing off to their friends who had more games (two or three). Now all this is remembered with a smile, but then ... then it was really great!

For example, Semyon became my first phone, only in 1999. As I remember now, this new Siemens C35i I rejoiced like a child. And I thought: “Here I’ll go, brag to my friends and girlfriends.”
After all, many still used their father's old "walkie-talkies" and pagers! How I chose my own wallet for my belt in the market, how importantly I wore it, busily emphasizing that I have a mobile phone, tucking my shirt into my trousers so that I could better see this outlandish device.

Gradually, progress towards the end of the 90s led to the fact that almost everyone already acquired colored and expensive phones. Prices fell on them, new items and improvements began to appear every two to three months, and then even more often. And that former excitement gradually subsided, people got used to the new products, it became boring, lean and ordinary.

Oh, to return to a time when every new day was a discovery, and we lived a dream. And to escape from the boring present, when all this is “shove” to us, without even letting us catch our breath. And so the taste of the dream is lost and only emptiness remains from the desire for the elusive.

I subscribe to these words unconditionally. The time was unforgettable.

Cult 8-bit games: Felix the Cat (Felix the Cat). (Part 3)

Felix the Cat is another game based on the cartoon popular in the early 90s, dedicated to the adventures of a restless, quick-witted cat and a stupid, sluggish professor. It may seem to many that this game is an ordinary platformer, but this is far from being the case. The first thing that catches your eye is the unprecedented graphics quality for an 8-bit set-top box.

In addition, this seemingly childish game was addictive from the first minutes. The evil professor has stolen Felix's beloved cat and hidden it in a secret place. The ever-laughing cat goes on a journey around the world, getting either to Egypt or to Antarctica, and at the end he will have battles in space and a meeting with a professor on another planet.

Felix the Cat something looked like a very prettier " super mario bros". Like there, in Felix» There were many opponents waiting for the player, most of which were animals and plants. Also in this game there were coins - images of Felix the cat himself. For them they gave points, and for 100 images they gave an extra life. Also, on the way of the cat, there were often hearts, by raising which one could get a new weapon or vehicle, while at different levels, of which Felix the Cat there was a great variety, different modes of transport were provided. This was the most interesting part of the game. The game had only 9 large levels, each of which was divided into 2-3 sublevels. All sublevels were divided into land (the cat traveled on them on foot), water (it was necessary to swim on the sea), underwater (it was necessary to swim under water), air (it was necessary to fly) and space (it was only 1 - it was necessary to fly on a rocket to another planet and kill aliens). Moreover, one level could start from the air, and end with a land sublevel.

Here are some more features. Each mode of transport had its own price, its pros and cons. So, when playing at the land level, Felix the cat fought off enemies with a boxing glove. Having received one heart, the Cat put on a magic cylinder and sent magic to enemies (perhaps the most powerful weapon in the game); having received two hearts, he was transferred to a fast car, and having received three, a powerful and clumsy tank.

In other levels, you could get a balloon, a dolphin, and even a submarine in the shape of Felix's head. In addition, all levels were decorated with the heads of the main characters of the animated series, which took on an unusual shape - sometimes clouds, sometimes images on the walls of an ancient pyramid. Players had to carefully watch the portraits of Kitty (given 500 points when touched) and the Professor (after 7 hits on them, an extra life appeared). Also in the game there was an analogue of pipes from " super mario» - large bags in which you could find a lot of portraits, 1-2 hearts and even an exit to the end of the level.

Almost endless and colorful cat game Felix, created at a time when consoles were not yet equipped with a save function, has become one of the most exciting and memorable computer entertainment for all gamers since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Cult 8-bit games: Darkwing Duck (Black Cloak). (Part 2)

Today, let's remember another cult game associated with the then famous cartoon character. His name is "Black Cloak"!

And I want to say that Darkwing Duck is perhaps the best game implementation of Disney's creativity on an 8-bit console. This game was released simultaneously with the appearance in the expanses of the post-Soviet space of the animated series of the same name about the adventures of a duck in a wide-brimmed hat and a dark suit with a developing raincoat. The funny and kind hero, posing as a storm of crime, touched to the core and amused with his antics, and the charismatic and cunning villains surprised with new and new original plans to take over the world. Not surprisingly, the game has become very popular, although not only due to its serial incarnation. During its history of existence, the Black Cloak even managed to disgrace itself: it was rumored that the engine from Mega Man 5 was used in the game. But the children who played this game in the mid-90s, of course, did not know about this, and nothing to them did not interfere with enjoying the new adventures of your favorite character under your own strict guidance.

What was special about this game? Firstly, very bright and high-quality graphics, which even in comparison with modern two-dimensional games looks quite nice. Secondly, well-drawn main character and enemies. The Black Cloak itself moved very plastically, could fall to the ground in order to dodge high-flying enemy projectiles or simply reflect them, hiding behind its cloak.

All opponents that come across on the levels are distinguished by a special variety and comical behavior: here are basketball players, eggs, skydivers, and turtle dogs, never parting from their booth. In principle, most of the standard opponents were invented specifically for the game, and the same cannot be said about the level bosses. There were 7 levels in the game - and on each of them one of his sworn enemies was waiting for the Black Cloak - the very ones that met in the famous cartoon.

Most of them corresponded to the location in which the player character ended up. So, the lord of plants Bushrut could only be found in the forest, and the water Liquigad in the sewers. At the same time, the player was free to choose which level to go next - each of them was difficult in its own way. Also, 2 secret mini-games were hidden in each level of Darkwing Duck, which were sometimes more difficult to find than to complete the game itself. Interesting and rather difficult bosses, several types of weapons, many secret rooms with bonuses and a resilient Black Cloak, who shoots from a gas pistol and screams “On the screw!” at the beginning of each level. - I wanted to repeat such a cultural program at least every day!
It is for these reasons that I would classify the game as one that we went through many times, returning to them again and again and striving to complete with more points, to find more "hidden" surprises.

Cult 8-bit games: Contra (Contra). (Part 1)

It is very interesting to remember the games of our childhood. I mean, first of all, 8-bit prefixes. Games with very poor graphics, by our standards, but games with something so fascinating that it was simply impossible to tear yourself away from them. And sometimes it didn’t give a damn that I forgot to do my homework, that the dishes weren’t washed, and my mother missed the Santa Barbara episode (after all, the set-top boxes were connected to the TV) and promised to punish me somehow terribly for this (for example, not to buy Snickers as much as 2 consecutive days).
Why not remember in more detail some of the toys of that time - the most iconic and, so to speak, "iconic": Contra, Black Cloak, Felix the Cat. Let's think about "Contra" first.
Part 1.
Contra

Modern children, who play various “shooters” in a binge, call, among themselves, the world-famous and popular game Counter-Stirke “Counter”. They do not know that at the dawn of the 90s, gamers from all over the world enthusiastically cut into the real Kontra, released by Konami, for 8-bit consoles and having a large number of sequels, both on this and other platforms. This indisputable superhit among console games may have been inferior to modern three-dimensional toys in terms of graphics, but it will give them 100 points of a head start in terms of the addictive gameplay and the intensity of passions that flare up in front of the monitor screen during the destruction of the next boss.

"Contra", which at one time was inferior in popularity only to Super Mario Brothers, offered the player to reincarnate as a brave paratrooper, who was landed in the middle of the jungle with a special task: to destroy the enemy army of aliens. In "Kontra" it was possible to play both the 1st and together with a friend. Moreover, the one playing on the first joystick got a character very similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the other - to Sylvester Stallone, who in the early 90s became the idols of most boys.

The idea and the quality of the graphical performance of the game, for its time, were simply brilliant, and became the quality standards for many games in the shooter genre. Each level differed from the previous one in design and game component.

The view was constantly changing: for example, in the jungle level, the player looked at his character from the side, as in a standard platform game. And during the firefight in the bunker, the paratrooper was already standing with his back to the player and was moving not to the side, but forward. Intense gameplay did not let you get bored for a minute: crowds of enemies rushed at the player, sometimes running in opposite directions, all kinds of turrets, tanks and stationary guns constantly blocked the path. But the game was especially remembered by all gamers for its rather extensive set of firearms for games on Dendy. It was knocked out of flying saucers, now and then scurrying over the battlefield. You could find a machine gun that fires automatically when you hold down a key, a flamethrower, a laser rifle, a rifle that fires a fan of bullets, which was the most effective weapon in the game. You could also find bonuses to increase the rate of fire or gain invulnerability. In addition, by picking up the eagle icon, it was possible to destroy all opponents with one blow. Interesting and varied weapons, a lot of well-drawn levels, bosses that amaze with their size, the ability to play together - all this made "Kontra" an exciting adventure for children of all ages in the distant 90s!

Party in retro style.

We recently gathered in a warm friendly company on the occasion of the birthday of a good guy. At first they wanted to celebrate in a cafe, as there were about ten people, but then they decided to go home to his aunt, since her apartment was free, the aunt went to Turkey with her “boyfriend”. And the hero of the occasion had the keys, he lived with her in childhood, so she, according to old memory, instructed him to look after the apartment and water the flowers. Well, they all fell into it. Our company is friendly, all the people have already taken place, decent people, we were united by a common school childhood and although we don’t meet so often these days, we are always happy to see each other.

They took with them a drink, a snack, bought gifts for the birthday man and, at the appointed time, arrived at the meeting place. The girls took up the table, and the guys and I sat down to talk, exchange news, and somehow it happened that Stas, our birthday boy, brought some kind of box, saying: “While our beauties set the table, let’s remember our golden carefree childhood.” While he was waiting for us, he cleaned up a little and found an old game on the mezzanine - “Monopoly” is called. This is where the floodgates of memory opened up. As we decomposed this "Monopolka", so memories of the past 90s of our carefree childhood rushed.
They began to remember what and how it was at that time. When we were still boys and girls, we could play games for hours, and not only electronic ones. And it was so exciting and fun! Of course, Dendy, SEGA and, of course, the famous Mario and no less famous “tanchiki” came to mind. It was much later that “computers” and the Internet appeared for us, and then all this was connected to the TV until our parents drove us away to watch TV shows. And the series and movies were great back then!
My parents watched Santa Barbara, and we watched Wild Angel, Rebel Spirit, The X-Files. Favorite actors are Schwarzenegger, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, David Duchovny, Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris. And we all went crazy from the Mortal Kombat movie, even played in the yard, imagining ourselves as heroes. The girls, along the way, also joined the game of memories of the past. Reminded of "Gummi Bears", "Duck Tales", "Chip and Dale", "Ghostbusters".
We then gathered in the evenings and told each other "horror stories" about the black hand, and then the girls were afraid to go home, we proudly saw them off, presenting ourselves as heroes.
The girls of their "Barbies" and "Kens" remembered denim fashion with sequins, games of "rubber band", then fashionable pendants made in the form of a half heart. And how many goodies... Chocolates "Snickers", "Invite", in which you just had to add water, "Yupi", "Zuko", I remembered that they bought bags and just ate, without any water. No one then thought about the harmfulness of dyes and some additives, it was just delicious, but also fun, when later the tongues were painted in all the colors of the rainbow.
And at school… The programs changed all the time, even the teachers at that time looked somewhat confused, not knowing what would be right tomorrow. When the 12-point grading system was introduced, it was generally not clear who was studying how. But they canceled this boring school uniform and pioneer organization. Everyone went in what they had, and dressed brightly and in a variety of ways.
Music was listened to on cassette recorders, players: "Gas Sector", "Tatu", "Rock Police", Decl, "Paints", "Hands Up" and much more. There was no need to dream about mobile phones, but there were pagers, and then the first Motorolas, and even then not everyone had them. Back then, letters were written on paper and sent in an envelope via regular mail.
But we played together in the yards for a long time and rapturously, and mothers called home from the windows, and not by mobile phone. Born in a state of stable totalitarianism, they suddenly found themselves in a completely different, new world of freedom of choice. It was a time when parents were not paid a salary, when we firmly believed in the promises of politicians, in the reality of what was happening in the series, and even in the reality of earning money on "financial pyramids". It was a difficult and at the same time fun, crazy time, the time of our childhood, filled with bright events and cardinal changes in worldview, in hobbies - in everything.
We sat well then: both we and our birthday boy were satisfied. It rarely happens that a seemingly ordinary party goes through such a retro scenario. Saying goodbye, we agreed that next time we would arrange a real retro party, bring with us things and costumes of those times and plunge into the world of our childhood again.

Youth magazines of the 90s: articles, posters and "useful" tips.

It is not difficult for young representatives of the 21st century to find information about everything that is happening in the world, and about everyone who has managed to gain popularity. The omniscient Internet provides a detailed dossier on idols, an abundance of photographs of famous personalities. Moreover, the "residents" of the official fan sites can sometimes directly communicate with who they consider the real "star". However, there were times when information about public figures was given out "in doses". Youth magazines came to the aid of fans of popular artists, through which you could find out how your favorite show business character lives, and even find like-minded people by correspondence. Have you bought color magazines in stalls with images of foreign and domestic superstars? Stored glossy pages in huge piles? Then you are also one of us - the true representatives of the time of the 90s!
Colored paper for teenagers

How nice it was to buy a fresh issue of Cool magazine and eagerly read it from cover to cover. After the magazines were brought to school and at breaks (and sometimes during lessons) they were discussed with classmates. Now it's funny to read articles from these publications, but then they seemed to be the most relevant! Remember, dear girls, how we all tried to repeat the “fashion make-up”, which was described in “Cool'e”. We were all very impressed by the photos of ordinary girls who, after the “witchcraft” of the stylist and beautician, turned into written beauties! The heading "Acquaintance" also causes a smile now. Letters like “I am 13 years old. I'm looking for a serious, self-sufficient girl ”clearly claim the title of“ absurdity of the year ”, but then it was perceived quite normally.

It should be noted that the magazine also tried to fulfill the noble mission of psychological assistance to adolescents. Now we can no longer judge whether the journal’s employees themselves wrote naive letters to their columns or whether such messages really came to the editor, but, in any case, psychologists answered even the most ridiculous questions, such as “I had a pimple on my nose and left me guy. Tell me, was it love?
"Funny pictures" for the walls

In the 90s, it was customary to “create idols for yourself” and selflessly fanate from the work of various artists. A real ritual for every fan was decorating the walls with portraits of beloved celebrities. Young fans were not at all embarrassed by double holes from paper clips and folds right in the middle of the posters. How can a true fan pay attention to such trifles if a portrait of a "star" is looking at him from the wall?! ...

The enterprising owners of "Cool'a" even made separate issues with "star" gigaposters, which were sold out by teenagers in the blink of an eye! Later there was also a magazine cool girl”, designed, as the name implies, for young readers. Girls of the 90s read naive love stories of their peers, watched the vicissitudes of photo comics, sympathized with the authors of sad letters to the editor ... But the main "trick" remained unchanged - and this magazine had posters for the walls !!!

Some teenagers in the 90s bought magazines designed for gambling intellectuals. Just at that time, the magazine "Relax!" appeared, in which many crossword puzzles were published. They had to be guessed, keywords compiled and sent on postcards to the editor. Naturally, for each correctly solved crossword puzzle, one could receive a prize. Remember how we were in a hurry to get a new number and looked for our last name among the winners? The search for most readers has not been successful. I hope there were lucky ones too!

In the attics and mezzanines, some "children of the 90s" still keep stacks of old magazines. Of course, they have long lost their relevance, but flipping through the bright pages, we can return for a moment to the time when the biggest problem in life was just a hated pimple on the nose!!!

Stationery of the 90s: what was in the bag of an advanced student?

And yet, we, the generation of the 90s, were interested in going to school! Why? Yes, simply because then there were many stationery novelties. Each student was very pleased to bring something like that to school and be in the center of attention. Just think, previous generations wrote in plain-colored notebooks with regular blue ink. And we are with you? Yes, the stack of notebooks on the teacher's desk looked like a bright kaleidoscope ornament! Each school abstract served as a reflection of the individual style of its owner! Often the covers featured portraits of favorite bands or cartoon characters. Do you remember those wonderful notebooks with “hidden pictures” on the back? It was necessary to peer into the pattern for a long, long time so that the contours of the pattern appeared. How offended those who could not see anything!!!…

Later, not only the appearance of the pen was improved, but also the composition of the ink. Gel pastes have become popular. At first, everyone began to use blue and black ink. But then I had to put pens with “acid-bright” colors into my backpack: light green, crimson, orange and purple colors served to highlight headings in the text.

However, the "clerical progress" did not stop there! Glitter gel pens have become a new “trend”: school pencil cases have replenished with pastes with gold and silver ink!

A subsequent "innovation" was self-erasing pens, which had blue ink on one end and an erasing solution on the other. Remember how we were forbidden to use such "cunning devices"? And we still kept them at home simply because they were fashionable!!!

In rare cases, students even picked up the motives of famous musical works and performed fragments on their pencil cases. Most often it turned out to play the melody of the congratulatory song "Happy Birthday". On the birthdays of classmates, this skill was especially important!

Stickers, bookmarks and markers - "stationery innovations" of the 90s
During our childhood, it was fashionable to decorate the covers of notebooks with bright stickers. They were either bought separately or served as a "nice addition" to chewing gum. Sometimes the stickers were also "attached" to teen magazines.

It was customary to put bookmarks in books, made of two pieces of light photographic film fastened with a bright thread, between which paper with beautiful pictures was placed. Sometimes the bookmarks were plain crocheted strings that were attached to the inside of the cover.

Bright markers have replaced ordinary felt-tip pens. Remember how they smelled unpleasant and were translucent from the back of the sheet? However, we used them to show everyone our "advancement"!

Undoubtedly, we have given a far from complete list of stationery accessories fashionable in the 90s, but we can say with confidence that at least one of the above items was in your possession!
