Pea soup for a child 1. Can a child have pea soup and at what age is it allowed? How to cook pea soup for kids correctly: recipes and secrets. Ingredients hazardous to babies

Cultures The process of preparing them is quite simple, the dishes are satisfying and healthy. Legumes have a whole range of useful and nutritional elements; they normalize intestinal function and remove toxins.

But parents often have a question: at what age can a child have pea soup? The baby’s body is very sensitive, and some products can be introduced starting strictly from a certain period.

Useful properties of peas

Parents need to consider at what age a child can have pea soup and how it can be useful. The main value of peas is that they contain a large amount of vegetable protein. In addition, peas are rich in:

  • essential amino acids;
  • starch;
  • fats;
  • vitamins C, B, H, PP;
  • beta-carotene;
  • natural sugars;
  • micro- and macroelements;
  • antioxidants.

Peas have a positive effect on the formation of the brain, nervous system, and the functioning of the heart and blood vessels. But pediatricians often limit children's consumption of this legume product. This is because peas are quite difficult to digest and can cause bloating and increased gas production. Therefore, it is the pediatrician who monitors the baby’s development who will help the mother and give recommendations on whether the child can have pea soup and at what age.

When to start introducing it into your diet

At what age can it be given to a child? Practice shows that doctors do not recommend giving it to children in their first year of life. A child at this age has not yet fully mastered the basic types of complementary foods. It is forbidden to give dishes with peas to children under the age of six months, because the baby’s digestive system is still weak. At this age, the introduction of pea soup is fraught with diarrhea and stomach upset. Even at 9 months, when the baby has already mastered many new ingredients, doctors do not recommend introducing peas.

So, at what age should you give peas? Doctors recommend introducing bean products into a child’s diet at two years of age. By this age, the baby’s digestive system has already sufficiently adapted to non-dairy products, and the body begins to absorb all the necessary micro- and macroelements. Thanks to the proteins contained in peas, the baby will develop correctly and harmoniously.

How to introduce peas into a child's diet

When can you give pea soup to your child? When the baby gets used to fresh peas, you should start introducing pea soup. At first, the child should be given no more than two spoons of soup. Then the portions are gradually increased.

Proper preparation of pea soup

A homemade recipe for pea soup involves the use of smoked meats. The child will eat this soup at an older age; the pediatrician will again advise at what age it is possible. A child of two years old should prepare pea soup according to the following rules:

  • Before cooking peas, they should be soaked for 12 hours.
  • Pea soup for babies is prepared with vegetable broth or meat broth. The meat for soup is chosen to be lean. The soup is cooked in a second broth, which means that after the meat has boiled for the first time, the broth must be drained. Then cook for another half hour, skimming off the foam periodically.
  • All vegetables that go into the soup must be fresh. It is better to take potatoes, carrots and onions.
  • Before giving soup to your child, you need to grind it in a blender. The baby’s body is not yet strong, so it is easier for him to digest pureed soups.

What ingredients should not be used?

It is forbidden to put in pea soup for children:

  • Smoked ribs. Despite the fact that this ingredient is the main component of soup for adults, it is not included in the children's version.
  • Meat with high fat content.
  • Spices and seasonings. You can put a little salt in the soup.
  • Bouillon cubes.

Delicious pea soup recipes

Peas are healthy on their own. But to make the soup tasty and rich in vitamins, you need to add other vegetables and meat to it.

Cream soup

To prepare this soup you will need one carrot, one onion, peas - 200 g and a spoon of butter. If peas are used dried, they must be soaked overnight. Cooking method:

  • Once the carrots and onions are chopped, they are placed in a small frying pan with butter. Vegetables should be simmered a little. But don't fry!
  • Then the vegetables are placed in a pan with peas, filled with water and placed on the stove. Instead of water, you can use vegetable or chicken broth.
  • After the soup is ready, grind it with a blender.

Yum Yum Soup

To prepare this soup you will need three medium-sized potatoes, 500 g of chicken, one onion and carrot each, 200 g of peas. The peas should be pre-soaked. Cooking method:

  • First, cook the chicken broth.
  • Then remove the chicken and add peas to the broth. Boil for an hour.
  • Next add potatoes, carrots and onions. Carrots and onions can be lightly simmered in a frying pan. Cook for another 20 minutes.
  • 10 minutes before cooking, return the meat to the pan.

This soup goes well with homemade white bread croutons.

At what age can a child have pea soup? Whether it will be at two years old or later - only the mother will decide. She knows better the baby’s taste preferences and the characteristics of his body. It is important to monitor your child’s reaction to a new dish. If he eats with pleasure, then you should continue feeding. In the case when the baby turns away and does not want to eat, it is better to wait a little and offer him pea soup at a later age.

Many people consider pea soup one of their favorites. Adults eagerly eat this aromatic hot dish, which is usually prepared with smoked meats. Children of different ages will also not refuse this wonderful soup. But can they eat it in the same way as adults? Better not! Smoked products are not recommended for children under 10 years of age. So what, depriving the children of this rich dish? Of course not. We’ll just make soup for the children according to a special recipe. By the way, preparing such a dish is somewhat simpler than the “canonical” one.

What should not be included in pea soup for children?

Preparing this dish for a child is a whole science. No, there are no difficulties. But some knowledge is needed so as not to harm the baby. Let's start with the fact that pea soup can be given to children from about two years old. This is if you cook it from dried legumes. You can treat your child to first courses with fresh green peas after one year.

When you prepare soup for children, you must take into account that the dish cannot be added:

  • fatty foods (for example, some types of meat);
  • spices;
  • smoked meats

And, of course, the first dish for a child should be prepared with natural meat, vegetable or chicken broth. Or on the water. Cubes are prohibited! By the way, they are not recommended for adults either.

Properly prepared pea soup is very healthy for children. After all, legumes are a storehouse of protein, vitamins and minerals necessary for baby growth. If your child has not eaten pea soup before, introduce him to this dish carefully. Let him try only a few spoons at first. Have you noticed any negative reactions from the body? Now you can give a full portion!

Cooking soup

To prepare pea soup for children you will need:

  • 100 grams of split peas;
  • 200 grams of chicken breast;
  • liter of cold water;
  • liter of hot water;
  • 1 carrot;
  • 1 small onion;
  • 1 tbsp. l. butter
  • salt.

Let's cook a delicious soup:

  1. Wash the peas thoroughly and soak them in cold water for several hours.
  2. Let's cook chicken broth: put the meat in cold water and let it boil. Let's drain the liquid and fill it with “new”, already hot water. Add salt and cook until done (it will take about half an hour). Let's strain the broth. We will separate the meat into pieces and put it on a plate.
  3. Salt the water from the peas and rinse them thoroughly again.
  4. Finely chop the onion and carrots and simmer in heated butter for a couple of minutes. You can skip this step and use raw vegetables in the soup.
  5. Place the peas in the boiling broth. We will cook over medium heat.
  6. After 20 minutes, add carrots and onions.
  7. Let's cook for another 5-7 minutes. Place the prepared meat. Let it simmer for 3 minutes.

The soup is ready! It can be served straight or pureed in a blender. When pureed, it will be easier for your baby to digest peas. But in this version, the soup is better served with crackers. They should not be fried in oil, but dried in the oven without any additives.

Number of servings: 4-6.

Cooking time: 65-70 minutes.

There is no need to put a lot of salt in a dish for children. In addition, it is in the broth. But if it’s not enough, add a little directly to the plate. So definitely don’t oversalt it.

This soup can also be prepared simply with water. Then add a little butter to it at the end of cooking.

The benefits of pea soup for a child

Did you know? Pea soup will become an indispensable dish in your diet if for some reason your baby does not eat meat. In terms of their composition, the proteins in peas are in no way inferior to proteins of animal origin. Moreover, it is rich in fiber, microelements and vitamins.

Regular consumption of peas helps the proper functioning and development of the brain, fills you with strength and energy. Carrots contained in pea soup are rich in beta-carotene, which is necessary for good vision, and onions, which are also an essential ingredient in the dish, strengthen the baby’s immunity.

How to properly prepare pea soup and when can you give it to your child?

In order to maximize the benefits of this dish for your child, you need to follow a few simple rules.

  • Pea soup, as a complete dish, is introduced into the child’s diet no earlier than 1-1.5 years, in small portions. Of course, this does not exclude the possibility of introducing the baby to peas earlier (from 6 months) in the form of pedagogical complementary feeding.
  • Pea soup should be introduced into the diet gradually, in small portions, observing the baby’s reaction. Peas can cause not only bloating, but also (very rarely).
  • When preparing pea soup for small children (up to 3-4 years old), it is best to use fresh green peas. Frozen peas are almost as good in quality, but dried and canned peas can only be used as a last resort.
  • If you do use dried peas, we recommend that you first rinse them and soak them in cool water - from 4 to 12 hours, depending on the peas themselves.

It is better to cook pea soup for babies without meat, in vegetable broth or water. If you do decide to make pea soup with meat, it is better to use homemade lean meat. Do not use store-bought smoked meats under any circumstances.

How to make pea soup for kids

To make pea soup, we need fresh or dried peas. If you use the latter, it is better to use split peas; these peas will boil better. Wash the peas in cold water until the water becomes clear. To make the peas cook faster and be soft, soak the washed peas in water for 2-3 hours. If you plan to make pea soup for children for lunch, then soak the peas in the morning.

We wash the pork pulp under cold running water, dry it a little with a paper towel and cut into small pieces. Cut out all the excess fat that pork is so rich in. If the soup is being prepared for a child who has not yet learned to chew, then it is better to cut the meat into large pieces so that it is easier to get and grind in a blender.

Place the pieces of meat in a small saucepan and fill with cold water, we will need about 1.5-1.6 liters of water.

Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. By this time there will be a lot of foam, be sure to remove it, otherwise the soup broth will be cloudy. After we remove all the foam and the broth is clean, add the peas. For peas, first drain the water in which they were soaked. When the broth boils again, skim off the foam from the peas, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 40 minutes. The soup should not boil too much.

At this time, prepare the vegetables - wash and peel them. Cut the potatoes into small cubes. It is more convenient to use a small spoon to scoop the potatoes into cubes rather than slices.

Finely chop the onion with a knife. If the child does not eat onions in soup, then cut the onion into two parts so that later you can fish it out of the soup.

Grate the carrots on a fine grater.

When the peas are almost boiled, add the prepared vegetables to the soup. Grated carrots and chopped potatoes have almost the same cooking time, so feel free to add them at the same time. Turn up the heat a little so that the soup boils faster, remove the foam from the carrots and cook for about 15 minutes. After boiling, turn down the heat again so that the soup does not boil, but simmers.

We taste the potatoes and peas; if they are already soft, then add a little salt to the soup, about half a teaspoon. It’s better to add more salt to the plate later if the soup is not salty. Boil for about 3-5 minutes and turn off. It is better not to add seasonings while the child is small; the soup turns out very aromatic and tasty without them. Cool the soup a little and serve; you can add a little finely chopped dill to the plate.
