Salt dough toys. DIY New Year's gifts: Christmas tree toys made from salt dough

Salty dough - worthy alternative plasticine and clay. The advantage of this material for creativity is that the figures become strong after drying, they can be decorated with paints, varnish, felt-tip pens, you can use them for a long time play.
By the way, look at what you can give as a gift for the New Year.
The advantage of dough over clay is its low cost. Today I want to show you how to do New Year's toys from salt dough and how to decorate them. You need the most ordinary flour. Whole grain or rye will not work, because... The dough from them turns out sticky and not suitable for making toys. We also take the cheapest, fine-grained salt.
What you need to make dough toys:

- Wheat flour,
- salt,
- water,
- Bowl,
- box.

Stages of creating Christmas tree toys from salt dough:

Pour flour, salt and water into a bowl. Knead the dough. It is necessary to achieve the consistency of plasticine. To prevent the dough from sticking to your hands, you can moisten them with water or sprinkle them with flour. Add salt at the rate of 1 tablespoon per full glass of flour. The dough will taste very, very salty. This is necessary so that the toys do not become moldy over time. We involve the child in the process. The result should be an elastic, flexible, uniform dough.

Place the resulting elastic dough on the table and roll it out with a rolling pin or a jar. Do not roll out too thin, otherwise the toys will be fragile. The optimal thickness is 5-7 mm.

Using molds, squeeze out shapes onto the rolled out salt dough. You can use a glass for this, then the toys will be round. Can be cut ready-made forms for cookies. Or you can get creative and draw something original on the test, for example, trace your child’s palm.

Or cut out a Christmas tree.

I used a brush for these purposes, piercing the other end along the fingers, leaving marks on the dough, then cut it out with a knife. If the toys are made as Christmas tree decorations, you need to make a small hole for the string in the top of the toy. It is convenient to do this with a juice straw. In general, you can make any kind of figures.

New Year's toys made from salt dough can be decorated with beads different colors and sizes, shells, sequins, beads, etc. You can make a spiral from beautiful wool yarn. While the dough is fresh, it is very pliable and it is easy to fix various decorations on it. You need to allow the child to fantasize, let him decorate the toy in his own way, you should not interfere, even if it turns out clumsy or not very aesthetically pleasing from the mother’s point of view. Having completely decorated the toy yourself, the child will be proud and pleased with himself.

Next, be sure to dry the cut out toys. This can be done in the oven at minimum temperature for several hours. Or you can dry it on a radiator, it will take one or two days. And finally, the toys can be decorated.

I use acrylic paint and nail polish. Me and my son (3 years old) turned out like this Christmas decorations. He did half last year, half this year. When they took out the Christmas tree decorations, he remembered that he made them himself, he was happy and wanted to work with dough again, to create something beautiful with his own hands again!
If you love sewing, you can sew beautiful

Made with the child. Colored and shiny, a little uneven and this makes them even more touching and memorable.

On New Year's Eve, every adult, not to mention children, awakens the desire to create cute little things that bring a feeling of comfort and warmth to the house... And although the stores are overflowing with factory-made toys and New Year's accessories, I want to make something of my own, unique, inimitable.

Elegant toys for the New Year's green beauty can be made from paper, fabric, and thread. Can you use salty dough- another interesting and quite accessible material. How to do it for the New Year? This is what we will talk about now.

How to make salt dough?

First, you need to prepare the right salt dough. To do this, prepare one measurement in advance. fine salt and two measures of flour. Dissolve salt in warm or hot water, and when it cools, add little by little saline solution into the flour, stirring constantly. You can add a little to the dough sunflower oil– it will make the mass more elastic and less sticky. However, it is more difficult to mold something from dough with added butter, since its pieces do not adhere well to each other. This option is good for simple single-layer crafts.

The dough should be quite stiff and hold its shape. Let it sit for the gluten to dissolve and get to work. Christmas tree decorations made from salt dough can be easily made using cookie cutters.

DIY New Year's crafts

Figurines made in this way are very reminiscent of traditional gingerbread and create a feeling of home comfort. You can make cute hearts, Christmas trees and stars: just roll out the dough into a thin (about 1 cm) sheet and invite your child to make figures out of it.

If not ready-made molds, you can cut them out of tin drinks cans, bending them inside the edges so that the baby does not get hurt. Even simple round pendants that can be made using a glass, small glass or small jar will look beautiful. Don't forget to make a hole for a loop in each figure.

Place the cut out figures on a mesh and let them dry thoroughly; If drying on a dense, flat surface, periodically turn the crafts over. You can use the oven, carefully drying the workpieces at low temperature.

We paint the dried figures bright colors, cover with glitter.

The top of the crafts can be coated with transparent varnish - this will give them a beautiful gloss.

Thread a ribbon or thick thread - and the decoration is ready.

Salted dough

On our website you can see many different crafts created based on salt dough.

Here one of the recipes for the manufacture of salt dough:

1Mix a glass of flour and 1 glass of salt.

Then pour in 125 ml of water(the volume is approximate, because the amount of water may depend on the type of flour you used for the dough). Stir this mass again with a spoon, and then knead with your hands until a homogeneous consistency. Some people use a mixer for this purpose.

By the way, water can be replaced with jelly made from potato starch(Dissolve 1 tablespoon of starch in 1/2 cup of cold water. Then pour another 1 cup of boiling water into this liquid, stirring. When the jelly thickens and becomes transparent, remove from heat. You get a paste). The dough will only benefit from such a replacement - it becomes more plastic.

Just don't overdo it! If the dough is too soft, knead it with a small amount mixture of flour and salt additionally. Salty dough there must be dense.

Now you can sculpt! It is better to sculpt on a sheet or board - this a good place for drying. The drying itself is carried out at a temperature of +80C in the oven for an hour, or on a radiator (in winter period). The drying time depends on the thickness of the figurine.

If you need color salty dough , then it can be colored either at the kneading stage, using food colorings or gouache, which is convenient when working with small children; or paint the finished product after complete drying.

And our craftswomen have their own subtleties and secrets for working with salt dough. That's why , go to the blog , Whose work did you like and ask! I’m sure the craftswomen will be happy to share with you!

pink = white + red

purple = blue + pink

green = blue + yellow

orange = yellow + red

brown = green + red

emerald = green + blue

flesh = light pink + a little yellow

gold and silver will be obtained if you add the corresponding color of gouache or acrylic, in the same way you can get glitter dough(gel for gouache)

Modeling is one of the most useful activities for kids. With its help, not only fine motor skills of the hands develop, but also perseverance, creative thinking and coordination of movements are developed.

One of the best materials for modeling with a child - salt dough. It is absolutely safe and does not contain harmful additives and easy to work with. DIY salt dough crafts will become wonderful souvenirs for your relatives and friends.

Universal recipes

You can find a great variety of salt dough recipes. Each master adds his own additives to them, selecting the desired consistency. The main products for kneading dough are salt, flour and water.

Depending on its purpose, its thickness may vary:

  • dense dough - for large parts and creating massive panels;
  • universal dough of medium consistency - it is convenient to make small pictures and figures from it;
  • soft dough- delicate and pliable, it is suitable for small elements, exquisite flowers and figurines.
Some needlewomen measure ingredients in grams, others prefer to use proportions in parts.

Thick dough

To work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. table salt - 1 part;
  3. water - 0.7 parts.

That is, to knead this type of dough you need to take one identical measure (glass, cup, tablespoon) of salt and flour and 0.7 of the same measure of water.

Combine dry ingredients in a deep bowl and add little by little cold water. The dough should be homogeneous and very dense. There will be grains of salt in it - this is normal, don't worry. Depending on the humidity and quality of flour and salt, you may need a little more or less water. Therefore, you can’t pour it into the dough all at once.

Medium consistency dough (all-purpose)

To work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. water - 1 part;
  3. table salt - ½ part;
  4. finely ground salt (extra) - ½ part.
By replacing half of the coarse salt with fine salt, this type of dough becomes more plastic and pliable. It is convenient even for a child to sculpt from such an obedient mass. But this dough is also not suitable for the smallest details and realistic crafts.

Soft dough

To work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. hot water - 1/4 part;
  3. finely ground salt (extra) - 1 part;
  4. PVA glue - ¾ parts.
Combine salt and flour, then add thick PVA glue and mix. Pour in little by little hot water, knead soft dough. It needs to be wrapped in cling film, let sit and cool.

This dough is ideal for complex work. It holds its shape perfectly, preserving the prints and texture created on it. Its quality directly depends on the quality of the chosen glue.

The figures made from salt dough with glue differ special strength. They will delight their owner for many years.

  1. If you plan to paint finished goods, better take wheat flour, although rye can also be used for salted dough.
  2. Can't take iodized salt- finished figures may crack when drying.
  3. The dough can be tinted while kneading. For this, food coloring or watercolors are used.
  4. The finished dough must be wrapped in cling film or a plastic bag to prevent it from drying out.
  5. A failed dough can be revived. If the dough is too liquid, you need to add a little more flour and knead again; if the dough is too tight, moisten it with water and knead, achieving the desired consistency.
  6. Do not add fat or hand cream to the dough from which you plan to paint the products - the paint will apply unevenly.
  7. The finished dough should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days. It loses its qualities and it will be inconvenient to work with it.
  8. It is best to sculpt volumetric products on wire or cardboard frames so that they do not fall apart.
  9. Crafts can be dried naturally, leaving them for a couple of days, baking them in warm oven or leave it near the battery. It is strictly not recommended to place figurines on the battery itself to avoid cracking.
  10. It is best to paint crafts with acrylic paint or gouache. Watercolors should not be used: there is a risk of getting wet and ruining the product.
  11. The junction of the parts must be moistened with water using a brush. This way they will connect firmly and quickly.
  12. The finished souvenir can be coated with clear nail polish or acrylic varnish. This will protect it from moisture and the paint from fading.
Armed with new knowledge, try to put it into practice.
