Potatoes with onions and herring: the simplest recipe

So, all we need is: half a kilo of potatoes, a couple of onions and a herring - one large or two small. In addition, you can use fresh dill, parsley, green onions as a decoration for the dish. Herring salad with potatoes and onions

You can also create an original and simple salad with the same ingredients. It is used as cold snack under strong drinks. To prepare it, we take 4-5 potatoes, a couple of onions, two medium lightly salted herrings (barrel), vegetable oil ( the best option will be cold-pressed, market, sunflower or olive), salt and ground black pepper - on the tip of a knife. To decorate the salad we use green onions and dill sprigs. By the way, if you wish, you can add pickled mushrooms - say, honey mushrooms. Delicious!

Let's cook simply!

  1. We prepare the herring as in the previous recipe, making fillets from it. Cut the fish into medium-sized cubes.
  2. Wash the potatoes, peel and boil until tender (time depends on the variety). Cool and cut into cubes.
  3. We clean and cut the onion: either finely or in half rings - as you like.
  4. If necessary, add a couple of spoons of pickled honey mushrooms.
  5. In one bowl, mix all the ingredients, adding a little vegetable oil.
  6. Decorate the salad with fresh chopped herbs and let it sit at the bottom of the refrigerator for a while. After an hour you can serve it. Bon appetit everyone!

1. Wash the potatoes to remove dirt and dust. Place in a saucepan, add water, salt and put on the stove to cook. After boiling, turn the temperature down to low, cover the pan with a lid and cook for half an hour until done. Check readiness by piercing a toothpick or skewer: they should go in easily. Do not use a knife or fork for this purpose, as... the tubers may fall apart.


2. While the potatoes are cooking, peel onion, wash and chop into half rings.


3. Place it in a bowl, season with vinegar and add sugar.


4. Pour boiling water over the onion and leave to marinate until further application. Hot water neutralizes the bitterness in the onions. Stir it periodically.


5. Peel the herring from the film, rip open the belly and remove the entrails. Cut off the head, tail and fins. Separate the fillets from the backbone and wash them, removing the inner black film. If there is caviar or milk in the fish, do not throw it away, they are edible and can be used in a dish.


6. Cut the herring into thin slices.


7. Into the serving bowl big dish add pickled onions and squeeze out all excess moisture.


8. Next, place the herring on the onion. Do it in a way that seems aesthetically beautiful to you.

  • 150 gr. pickled cucumbers;
  • 1 medium apple;
  • 120 gr. sour cream;
  • 2 large eggs;
  • 40 gr. horseradish;
  • 30 gr. 9% vinegar;
  • 10 gr. mustard.

Potato salad with herring:

  1. The potatoes must be washed with a brush and placed in a pan with water, in which they are boiled, then cooled and peeled, cut into small squares with a knife.
  2. The beef is also washed and boiled in a saucepan. Next, without removing from the broth, cool and cut on a board into small, even pieces if possible.
  3. In another pan, already filled with water, boil the eggs for about twelve minutes. Then the boiling water is drained from them and poured with ice water, in which they are cooled, then cleaned and cut into cubes with a knife.
  4. The apple is washed, wiped and freed from the skin, all seeds are removed and also cut into cubes.
  5. The cucumbers are washed, dried, placed on a board and cut with a knife in the same way as all previous products.
  6. The herring is cleaned, the skin and all bones are removed from it, then they are also crushed.
  7. Pour all the products prepared for this moment into the salad bowl.
  8. In a bowl, mix sour cream with pre-grated horseradish, vinegar and mustard.
  9. Pour the resulting dressing over the salad and mix everything with a spoon.

Tip: to keep the apple light, you need to sprinkle it with a little vinegar or lemon juice. The acid will prevent such an undesirable process as darkening of the fruit.

Herring salad with potatoes and onions

This is an amazing, original dish that is easy to prepare and not embarrassing to put on the table. Products in in this case cut very coarsely. Naturally, this simplifies the preparation process as much as possible, but at the same time it makes the salad special, unique, and unlike all others.

  • 80 gr. green beans;
  • 200 gr. tomatoes;

  • 20 gr. soy sauce;
  • 10 gr. lemon juice;

  1. The herring is immediately cleaned and washed, all the bones are removed from it and cut into slices on a board.
  2. A special dressing is prepared. For this purpose, mix butter with soy sauce, lemon juice and mustard.
  3. The potatoes are washed with a brush and boiled in ordinary water, then they are forced to cool and peeled, and also cut into slices.
  4. Green beans boil in another saucepan, then drain in a colander and pour over cold water.
  5. Mix boiled beans and potatoes in a bowl, pour over some of the prepared sauce.
  6. Regular beans are washed and boiled, poured into the same bowl.
  7. The eggs are placed in a saucepan with water, boiled and immediately cooled, peeled and grated.
  8. They wash the tomatoes, wipe them and cut them very coarsely with a knife.
  9. First, place a mixture of two types of beans and potatoes on the dish.
  10. Then herring and tomatoes are placed there and decorated with grated eggs.
  11. The shallots are coarsely chopped with a knife and also placed on the dish.
  12. The salad is poured with the remaining sauce and decorated with chopped herbs.

Important! At the end of cooking, green beans must be doused with ice water. Thanks to this, it will not lose its natural bright green color.

  1. The potatoes are washed using a brush and then boiled in the so-called “jacket”. At the end of cooking, it is cooled, and the “uniform” itself is removed, each tuber is cut into several parts, salted and sprinkled with pepper, poured with lemon juice and butter.
  2. Vinegar is mixed with sugar and salt.
  3. The onion is peeled and finely chopped into quarters of rings with a knife, poured over the vinegar mixture and marinated in it for a short time. Then the marinade is drained, and the onion itself is squeezed out a little.
  4. Herring fillet is cut into slices.
  5. The garlic is peeled and crushed with garlic cloves.
  6. The greens are simply chopped finely on a board.
  7. Pour everything into one bowl and mix with a spoon.

It would seem that it is the simplest product, but it is precisely this that allows you to achieve gastronomic harmony and give any salad a special charm, even if there are no frills in it, and only the simplest ingredients are used. This dish was no exception.

For herring salad with potatoes you need:

  • 300 gr. potatoes;
  • 2 large eggs;
  • 2 green bell peppers;
  • 150 gr. pickled cucumbers;
  • 30 gr. dill;
  • 2 onions;
  • 400 gr. herrings;
  • 20 gr. 9% vinegar;
  • 5 gr. Sahara;
  • 20 gr. vegetable oil.

Salad with herring and potatoes:

First, boil the potato tubers directly in their skins. To do this, first select undamaged tubers of the same size and thoroughly wash them to remove sand and other contaminants. Then fill them hot water, add salt (a little more than usual) and cook until tender, but do not overcook. Then hot water drain and place potatoes in cold water for a couple of minutes - this way the tubers cool faster and the skin is easier to remove.
Cut the peeled potatoes into strips or cubes.




Now let's deal with fish. We cut off the head and tail, be sure to cut the tummy and select the insides. Then we remove the backbone from the carcass and carefully, and most importantly, thoroughly, remove all the bones.
Cut the herring fillet into small slices.




Finely chop the peeled onion.




Finely chop the greens.






Season the herring salad with potatoes and onions with oil, add spices and mix. Salt to taste. But it is worth remembering that the herring is already quite salty. Try making this one again.
